Reports about getting Linux running on the Asus Transformer T100HA (also an Atom Cherry-Trail) show it can be done but not easy.

kernel 4.12-rc1 has in-built support for the RTL8723BS driver. so far only things not working or bugged are:

    • trackpad
    • bluetooth (working on some distros)
    • sd card slot (heard some have this working but have not tried myself)
    • sound (ditto)
    • power management/battery life

This guy’s blog on trying to get Linux running on the Jumper EZbook Air points to a patch that might work for kernel 4.12-rcX as well?…
“This patch applied to 4.11-rc5 seems to help with ACPI related stuff (battery meter and soft power button is working now. hooray!)”
Other than that, you have gotten much farther than him – he’s not tried 4.12 yet.

Does it use the same touchpad device as the EZbook 3 Pro?  If so, the answer is probably yes with a workaround –> http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-laptop-and-netbook-25/jumper-ezbook-3-pro-can’t-boot-from-usb-most-of-common-linux-distros-4175605766/page2.html#post5715375

So, in the end, is it possible to install linux on the jumper ezbook 2 or even boot it from an external usb?

I’ve read the thread but I haven’t found any definitive answers.

If yes, what distro should I use?

    Thanks

If you’ve read this thread you’ll know that it is possible to install Linux distros on EzBook 2 since day one.

Ubuntu, Arch, Antergos, Manjaro, etc, even Linuxium (a specially modified one)… you can install anything you want, the problem is not all hardware is supported… When I started about 1o months ago, I installed ubuntu 16.04 and got no trackpad, no sound, no bluetooth, and no wireless, but since then many versions of the linux kernel have been released with increased hardware support, so it’s probable that now most (if not all) hardware will work out of the box, and if not, it’s just a matter of time until it will.

P.S:I bricked my EzBook 2 while changing some BIOS parameters many months ago and could never recover it despite all efforts, because of that I can not give you an updated answer on hardware support, but many others still have a working EzBook 2 so I guess you have to wait for someone to give more info.

    Best regards

    Thanks for replying.

Just one more question: in order to boot from the USB live drive, I just need to press ESC on boot, without modifying BIOS settings, right? I want to try the latest linuxium build released on june 29 with various fixes.

Correct! Pressing ESC while turning EzBook 2 ON will get in into BIOS, then you just need to change boot order to your USB pen drive.

I’ve bricked mine while increasing video memory amount… so don’t do that 🙂

After inserting the bootable USB, I enter BIOS > BOOT settings, but there is no USB option 🙁
However, under Advanced > USB configuration tab, it does see my USB drive inserted, but I still can’t boot from it.

I managed to boot in ubuntu, I was not using GUID partition table on the USB.

It only works with USB UEFI boot and I wouldn’t trust Rufus…

I remember that I used dd command to make a UEFI bootable ubuntu iso

    sudo umount /dev/sdX
    sudo dd if=/path/to/ubuntu.iso of=/dev/sdX bs=4M && sync

where sdX is your usb device (this can be verified with lsblk).

The sync bit is important as dd can return before the write operation finishes.

Thank you so much for helping!

IT WORKS! WiFi, trackpad work. Just booted it from the usb and it is very fast.

Tell me if there is something you’d like me to try 🙂
