Same problem. I removed the battery as I think it is what is causing this. Unfortunately now it goes up to the Windows 10 screen and immediately shuts down (on AC power). I am unsure if I should get a new battery or if the laptop is dead. If it will only reach up to the W10 welcome screen and shuts down, it could be it needs more power than the AC…[Read more]

It has to be a SATA3 M.2 The WD Blue comes in both SATA and NVMe versions, so maybe your friend got the Nvme version.
