I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to share my experience fixing my Hibook 10.1 shutdown issue. I recently found myself needing to carry such a small computer around for work, so I took the time to work on it today.
Problem: Chuwi Hibook 10.1 shuts off suddenly when running on battery, despite having nearly a full charge (85-90%) and doesn’t inform Windows that it is shutting down. The issue never happened if plugged in. I updated my BIOS a long time ago and it’s at v5.11 dated 4/2/2016 (not sure if this is the latest anymore).
Solution: I opened the tablet and lifted the big thin piece of shielding that acts as a heatspreader. Underneath was only two thermal pads, one covering the CPU and the other on the chip labeled AXP288C, which Google tells me is the power management chip. The other chips under the spreader had no pads, receiving no heat dissipation – these being both the RAM (ELPIDA FA232A2MA) chips and the MMC storage (SKhynix H26M78103CCR e-NAND).
I scraped off the factory thermal pads, cleaned with ArctiClean, and applied a small gob of IC Diamond thermal compound to all the chips under the spreader. I pushed the spreader back on and made sure I applied enough pressure to sufficiently contact each chip and spread the compound. I then cleaned the top of the spreader with ArctiClean and re-applied the factory thermal pad between the case cover and spreader (because I didn’t have any new pads on hand).
While I was at it, I hot-glued the magnets into place since they always pop out!
This solved the problem for me. I even watched Netflix on battery power with a bluetooth headset. I was happy to feel the back of the tablet getting nice and warm, spreading that heat effectively!

July 26, 2016 at 8:11 pm #44620I’m not at my office right now, but I can tell you that my HiBook also shows image retention. It’s noticeable at times, but isn’t permanent. It’s just not as expensive of a screen as what you’re used to. I believe it’s normal and nothing is wrong.

July 20, 2016 at 10:01 pm #44037Yes, you’re right about implementation at least. My HiBook has NONE of those problems, but with these cheap tabs, there’s a much higher “percentage error” or failure rate.
I normally don’t hesitate to do firmware updates, but with this thing I’m afraid I’ll start with a fully working tab and end up with problems (or a brick).
I’m pretty impressed for the money, but I gambled and was lucky. So I can’t really recommend one to anyone else.

June 23, 2016 at 7:36 pm #41837SONEic – USB Type-C (USB-C) Rapid Wall Charger & USB Type-C to Type-C Cable, 15 Watt/3.0 Amp (3A) for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, LG G5, HTC 10 & All Other USB Type-C Devices – Black (Charger+Cable Included) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017BVLLC6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_VIdBxb6VWK5K0
The “right direction” bit was me referring to my comment in my other thread (called “Please contribute: What accessories and memory cards work?”) – my charger works great if I plug in one direction, but the type-c doesn’t charge if I flip the connector around. After reading reviews of various type-c chargers, I’m now thinking that my charger is probably a bit defective. But this model has been tested to actually output the right amount and is usually high quality.

June 22, 2016 at 5:56 pm #41760i got normal usb 3.0 speeds i get on my desktop. using a sandisk usb 3.0 drive. so chuwimhas definetly used usb 3.0 port there..
Hi mayur, would you mind running CrystalDiskMark on your USB 3.0 drive and posting the actual speed? It’s not that I don’t believe you, but I would like to verify that it’s not just an impression. If Chuwi really did fix this, some of us will want to exchange ours under warranty! Thank you.

June 22, 2016 at 3:15 am #41699I purchased the charger which I described here. It was tested by someone in Amazon reviews as actually outputting 5V 3A. It works well, as long as I plug it in the right direction! Something isn’t quite right with these Chuwi Type-C ports.

June 19, 2016 at 4:17 am #41436Which driver was giving you the best boost? Can you give us a version? I’ve noticed that the Windows update one can be slow and the Intel driver update utility one seems faster. Also betas from laptopdrivers2go.com can be hit and miss.
I just looked up my results and it says I was on driver version 20.19.15.4380.
Driver 20.19.15.4380 – Score: 13,884
Driver 20.19.15.4463 – Score: 10,854
Driver 20.19.15.4444 – Score: 12,109 (updated to Windows 10.0.14367 – Insider Preview, Fast Ring)I’m currently on the last one, but now that I looked up these driver versions I’ll see if 4380 is still better.

June 18, 2016 at 12:39 pm #41384Anyone has suggestions on apps that can read exFAT cards on Android?
I believe you’ll have to install exFAT drivers for Android, which requires root. I haven’t done it, but read about others on other Android devices.
The following Type-C OTG adapter has worked well on the HiBook: https://smile.amazon.com/VicTsing-Adapter-Reversible-Chromebook-Supported-Black/dp/B017GNH5RO
I also purchased a couple of these 90-degree POWERED Micro USB 2.0 OTG adapters and was able to use my 1TB backup drive off of it. I haven’t tested the power passthrough, but that should allow me to hook up full sized backup drives! https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M7X6XNG
Both of these were extremely cheap!! $5.98 and $2.20 each (USD).

June 18, 2016 at 12:11 pm #41381Have you managed to get USB3 speeds off your USB-C OTG adapter (I’m assuming it’s USB3 too)
No, it’s definitely limited to USB 2.0 speeds.
They falsely advertise OGS, Gorilla Glass, and USB 3.0. Perhaps they don’t have regulators to keep them accountable?
I just did the 3DMark Ice Storm benchmark and got 13,888. Then I downloaded the newest (June 17, 2016) drivers and my score went down to around 10,000. I’m going back to the faster drivers!
Just tested the stylus with the Hibook with INKredible, no luck. It doesn’t track reliably. Finger and touch input is really good otherwise.
That’s what my conclusion was, too. I have no problem in general using the touchscreen… but will not be doing any handwriting with styli on this unit.

June 18, 2016 at 3:24 am #41359I recently received OTG adapters for both microUSB and Type-C. My HiBook ordered May 10th, serial Q64G45160401654 must be the new revision.
I can power my 1TB portable backup drive from Type-C, microUSB, and both keyboard dock ports.

June 17, 2016 at 7:37 pm #41337Good stuff, thank you for writing it up!
When was your order placed? Do we have any idea when the hardware revision happened, serial number range or any other indicator?
CHUWI claims that they use a non-laminated OGS on the HiBook, and has always claimed that every HiBook was OGS in this way. But can they opt out of the lamination step and still call it OGS?
<span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>Are you able to write with a stylus? Mine fails pretty badly in apps like INKredible on Android. My finger is ok, but too clumsy for my taste (my fingertips aren’t very accurate!) I wonder if your screen is improved. </span>

June 15, 2016 at 5:56 pm #41114Ok, I will answer my own question now. Last night I tried taking notes with my best capacitive stylus, one I bought for my old Asus Transformer TF700T. The HiBook failed miserably to use it. I could hardly get anything to register.

June 8, 2016 at 8:43 pm #40301I ordered my HiBook on May 10th and mine had no wifi problems or keyboard problems! It’s the Chinese tablet lottery, and you might be the next lucky winner!

June 8, 2016 at 7:17 am #40251The Windows Event Viewer is found by clicking on the Start button and typing “event” – you’ll see “Event Viewer” suggested in the search. It’s also found in the Control Panel, or by running the command “eventvwr” from the command prompt or Run box. Once it opens, expand Windows Logs, and look through the “Application” and “System” logs. I suggest looking for warnings (yellow) and errors (red) from just before the crash/shutdown, or just after.
