After many weeks I finally got the keyboard cover for the Jumper EZpad 5Se

The overall experience is still awful.  The cover doesn’t fit well, the magnets are weak I guess–so the keyboard doesn’t stay on very well.

The angle for typing is so so.  The keys have decent size but are spaced close together so its not great to type.

Overall this tablet is pretty awful.  My main points

    1. Performance is very poor.  It just is very sluggish
    2. Despite being sluggish, battery life is awful. 4.5 hours max, even with screen brightness at 0%.  I think they put in a small battery given the size.
    3. The pre-attached screen protector scratches easily when using the included wacom stylus.
    4. Charging is slow on the micro-usb port.  I have not been able to locate a dc charger that fits so far.
    5. Screen is…not great either.
    6. The wacom stylus and screen are inconsistent in experience. Some lag I think due to slow processor.
    7. Built quality is ok…but the keyboard is ill-fitting and not the standard of the tablet.
    8. Terrible speakers.  But oddly, even using the headphone port is still very weak.

Overall this is very poor. I guess I would be more forgiving if the battery life was passable, but it is very very bad.

Asus just released their new tablet–the transformer mini  t102ha which seems vastly better so far–although here in the USA it is quite a bit more expensive..

    1. better screen–really bright even at low levels
    2. included keyboard and pen
    3. better performance
    4. VASTLY better battery.  This is listed as 11 hours and the actual run time is very close. I’ve been extremely impressed with battery life so far.
    5. 801ac wireless instead of just 801n with the jumper tablet
    6. fingerprint sensor
    7. LOUD speakers

So far I am happy with the transformer. I wish the keyboard was a tiny bit bigger, but I do think I will get used to it. And its all included!

After talking to gearbest–or at least trying to–they must be using google translate to communicate–its easier to just keep the damn thing

I am hoping it will be easier to use with a dc charger.  The dc plug is in very small needs a 5a 3v charger–does anyone know one that works? I ordered one from amazon but the plug to the unit was too big…so I goofed up. The actual plug is very tiny…but I’m not sure how to classify it.

since the keyboard cover is cheap ordered one from everbuying.  But seriously, my last chinese tablet.  Between this and the cube 7 stylus, its not worth it.

    Another important point

Performance of the device is much better if you turn off the power saving on the intel graphics chip. But, the battery life on the tablet is not so great.  So far its about 4 hrs.  If you plug in a usb hub to connect a keyboard and mouse, its even worse.  I’ll keep experimenting but doubtful this is going to get 6 hrs max.

Now it does have microusb port, but I doubt you can charge it fast enough while using to keep using it…I guess you need to top off when not using.  It does seem to charge faster with a adaptive fast charger from samsung than any old micro-usb charger.  But…the dc charger I ordered was the wrong type. Oops.  Still looking for right charger.

Given poor battery life and poor performance, even with the wacom stylus support, I’m not loving this tablet so far. Even if it was cheap pretty cheap.

I forgot to mention one thing, I got this from Gearbest. It was advertised as being dual boot with windows 10 and android

I cannot locate any android on this device…so I am not sure if this is accurate.  If dual android boot is important for you, then I would beware.

Also I tried a samsung microsd card, evo + 256 gig and it did read the card fine.

I got the DC charger yesterday–I will see 1) if it works  2) how much faster it chargers than the micro-usb port 3) then I’ll see if it gets too hot

Heat does not seem to be a major issue yet.  Although I am curious about battery life—4 -5 hrs is the initial report from battery bar pro which would be pretty poor…

    I just got this

Speakers seem super weak, even with headphones

very slow so far, but it is charging and possibly downloading updates

801 b/c/n wifi, no 5hz antenna it seems

wacom stylus, it works with the kind that doesnt need a battery

    good build quality

but meh so far. At only $168 with the code it is still like less than half a surface 3 with a better stylus, so time will tell

I do think gearbest sent me the jumper EZpad 5s keyboard, not the EZpad 5se keyboard so I can’t test that until I get the right keyboard!

I emailed geekbuying aftersale support again and they offered me a $20 refund  and and some $5 off coupons  for the windows 8 pirated copy–If I close the paypal claim.

I think its a bad idea to pay $80 to ship it back to china and them have then refuse to refund the money-in the past they said if it had any scratches on it they would consider it in not new condition….so I will admit defeat, accept the $20 and get on with my life. And maybe someone will buy it locally from me at a fair price….and does anyone want some $5 geekbuying coupons?

The device itself isn’t bad, but the experience with geekbuying has been pretty awful. I guess I am lucky they didn’t send me a box full of rocks though. Yes we will send you an rma code but if any of the rocks are scratched…

well, yes.  I got the tablet, tried it out, realized the windows 8 was pirated, complained…

I balked at having to pay $80 or more to return it.  I kept it.  I had a copy of Windows 8 pro so I installed it.

But I did file that claim with Paypal, asking just for the cost of the copy of Windows 8…and came back with an offer to return the tablet for the full amount…

So again, paypal is not really helping much in this situation, and do not buy anything from geekbuying!

Has anyone actually returned an item to geekbuying and got a refund?

I filed a complaint with paypal who has been pretty useless for the most part, asking for a partial refund for the cost of a copy of windows 8.1 pro.  Without asking for any documents paypal countered with either a full refund or no refund.  They refused to consider my partial refund as requested.  I have no faith that geekbuying will refund the money for my order if I return, and shipping back to china will cost like over $80, which will eat into the refund….so what to do?

I think we all made the same mistake–better TAKE OUT MICROSD CARD BEFORE OPENING UP THE TABLET!

But does anyone have tips on how to get the cover back on somewhat easily? I just looked and I think the rear camera is out of position so I may have to risk another re-opening to fix that, and could break something else..oh geez.

at least the wi-fi still works…!

I found this link over at xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=62250425&postcount=243

it details on how while its a 4.5 watt core m chip, it was not set with any restrictions and can go up to 6 watt at rest and up to 15 watt when under load in burst mode.

It does add speed but at the cost of a lot of heat–they link to an intel program that can  let you reset the max load at rest to 4.5 watt and reduce the turbo boost as well.  I don’t think it makes it much slower but may help with the heat

I also believe there were some instructions on how to modify the heat sink and spreader to improve cooling.

    GEEKBUYING.COM AVOID!

I just got a cube i7 stylus from geekbuying

Shipping by DHL was very quick

The cube i7 stylus is a decent piece of hardware, but the software is a concern.  As I had posted elsewhere, it was sent with a KBMS version of Windows 8.1 which is likely not a legit legal version.  It also had menus in chinese  langage and english, which was real confusing.

I reached out to Geekbuying about a return and they said the following

    Dear customer,

Thanks for your e-mail. Your question has received our close attention. Don’t worry, we’ll work this out together.

It should be activated automatically once you connect to wifi.

Or you may return this to us as <b>7 Days Disliked item (replacement or refund warranty)</b>

Customers are responsible for Round-trip shipping fee if you want to return the disliked item. After we receive the returned, we will refund or send out the replacement as you choose.

Take it easy, we’ll keep in touch with you until the trouble is solved.

Wish you and your family have a nice day!

    Best regards,

    Ariel”

So I wrote back about RMA and location to ship–I will see how expensive it is to return.  While the cube might be decent hardware buying from geekbuying was a mistake.  I would not be surprised if I get stuck with it or try to sell locally at a loss.
