i know, but my main question/concern was if theres a new bios? …

yeah, im playing lol sometimes on it.

i however did the copper plate cooling mod + set the TDP from 7.5w to 22.5w in bios.

than you can get decent 80ish or even more fps on medium on native resolution.

    one more thing though.

it should be connected to a charger since if its running on battery it appears to throttle… and the fps drop…

Does RemixOS actually work, i wasnt able to boot it up…

But i think once the new Android x86 version comes out (thinking 7.0 here), it should work on kaby lake as well

I did a thermal mod, which makes it be even warmer on the back, but just with browsing its nice and cool for me

You can change your Screen off/standby/hibernate options in windows settings normally – search for standby in the windows search/cortana field – > than advanced power menu.

Mine came with a preapplied screenprotector.

dont know about the pen, gearbest has some for 15 Euros

hey, i had the same issue. i have ordered two mix plus tablets from gearbest, one in march, one in april, about 2-3 weeks apart. The first one came all working, windows genuine. The second one came, but windows said its not genuine. I contacted gearbest and we could agree on some sort of compensation.

it might be that the newer mix plus tablets dont have a legal win10 copy from gearbest?

so i just reopened the new tablet, replaced the 0,5 mm plate between the cpu and the original heatsink with a 0,8mm one and the 0,5mm one between the heatsink and the big copper plate to 0,7mm, the cooling is slightly better, but still not as good as the first mod i did on the first tablet, still occt can only run good 4 minutes before it reaches 87 degrees, while the old one still can do almost 6 minutes. im not sure where this comes from, as now the new one has almost 2 times the copper in it as the old one (still without the screen getting bent).

The microprocessors are not 100% identical. Each microprocessor could be overcklocked with different results, even if they are te same. One of them has better thermal characteristics, thats all. It is also possible that the first copper plate do a better contact with the microprocessor or even you have applied the thermal paste you are using in a better manner. There are a lot of small things which all together could perform a really different behaviour.

Yeah i  know that, but i find it weird, cuz the second SoC can work at lower voltages, which would imply that it should heat up less. Naturally my thermal paste is rather old and suboptimal, probably with new paste i could get even more out of it. but i think its ok. i can set it to 22W TDP and play at least lol with medium settings without fps drops.

honestly the best option would be to get windows 10 enterprise ltsb  or windows server 2016 without the constant updating crap, but thats kind of impossible and way over the top for this situation

Gearbest, its best with the premium shipping to EU since you dont have to pay tax…

but yeah as i said, these damn windows 10 constantly keep churning in the background some updates and telemetry “spyware”.

but perhaps you rather get the new thinker? double ram/ssd, better screen.

edit: ill correct myself top, powercfg says 5 hours 33 minutes. but if i check the capacity 43Wh and the drain in HWinfo between 5 and 7w it should work some 5-7 hours.

Dude i dont know what you will be doing with the tablet, but with mine i can watch approx 6 hours youtube 1080p on edge on 50% brightness. just normal browsing in edge (have to admit it its more power efficient than firefox or chrome) on 50% can last 6-8 hours. I did mod it with a thermal mod and slight undervolt. Could get even more out of it i think if i would lower the max tdp. but im pretty happy with its performance. what im not happy with are these shitty windows 10 that keep constantly updating and restarting…. But you cant use any older windows on any kaby lake tablet/2in1/laptop as there are simply no useable drivers – i even tried windows 8.1 on mine, but meh, nothing worked properly…

No, you misunderstood the post. You should reread the whole thread and check the pictures i linked in the dropbox link.

Im just saying that apparently my second thermal mod is not as good as the first one, the only difference being the thickness of the first plate i used.

so i finally had the time to compare both tablets now. The new one has a better SoC, can use approx 0.07 lower volts (even default) than the old one.

The old one has 0.7mm -> 0,5mm -> 0,5mm plates, the new one has 0,5mm -> 0,5mm -> 0,7mm and should hence have a greater thermal resistance as the last plate is the biggest.

but astonishingly the first ones CPU is at least 10 degrees cooler, than the new ones under 100% load (running OCCT) with unlocked TDP to 22,5w (on both), letting them run an endless loop makes the new one reach 87 degrees after 3 mins 4 seconds, the first one at 5 mins 58 seconds, almost double the time.

Now my theory is that the 0,5mm plate between the soc and the original heatsink is the limiting factor for the new one, either its not thick enough and it doesnt make as good a contact as the 0,7mm one, or the reduced thickness has such an impact on it.

Im unbelievably tempted to reopen t he new one and change the first plate from 0,5 to 0,7 but am afraid that, the big plate might get dislodged during opening and produce a short circuit, hence killing the tablet….

hey xiaoh thanks for the nice writeup,

if your interested, ive put several pics of my thermal mod and the bios in the thread here https://techtablets.com/forum/topic/overclocking-after-thermal-mod/#post-65834

perhaps you h ave some more ideas suggestions what could b e improved more.
