I have noticed the same thing, tho it didn’t rly bother me.
I usually use a regular pair of stereo headphones (2 “rings” on the 3.5mm connector) and have no problems with them whatsoever.
I tried my girlfriends’ iPhone 5s headphones (3 “rings” have +/-/call button with the integrated mic) and if I insert them all the way in, Android goes crazy. If leave a bit of space I have no problems (haven’t tested, but I assume the mic doesn’t connect this way)August 9, 2015 at 6:45 pm #9172One more thing under windows (since I use it under windows 10 more than 90% of the time) is that you can move the “common folders” (no idea how they are really called)
Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, Videos; to be on the SD card instead of the eMMC.
All you need to do is right click the folder -> Properties -> Location and change the “C:\Videos” to “D:\Videos”. Hit OK and tell it to transfer the existing files as well. Just do it for all the folders and it becomes really convenient as it no longer takes any space on your main drive.
July 14, 2015 at 1:30 pm #6980I ordered a Chuwi Hi8 from banggood and I was really surprised with their postage/shipping times, because I made the order on Saturday and it was already shipped on Sunday. I chose DHL because it seems like banggood have slightly higher prices of their tablets for the purpose of making shipping cheaper for themselves when offered free and to offer lower expedited shipping costs (for example the Chuwi Hi8 is $100 instead of the 92$ on gearest, but their DHL shipping costs $12 here instead of the $30+ other sites offer).
Thursday afternoon DHL called me that they received the package and Friday I picked it up without any problems (except the horrible customs procedure they have in my country, but that’s not banggood’s problem). It arrived in a while polystyrene box, that was very tightly sealed and seemed sturdy, but one critique I have is that the tablet was kinda freely wobbling inside, no filler in the box whatsoever. This might end up causing some damage, especially to things with some moving parts like fans or HDDs.
My unit arrived in perfect condition, save for a very long scratch along the screen cover, but I guess that’s a pretty minor thing overall.
Pros: Cheap expedite shipping options; good prices; very little wait between ordering and shipping
Cons: I dislike their packaging somewhat, but it’s not a big deal unless reselling is importantJuly 12, 2015 at 5:34 pm #6827Do you think I can simply take another screen protector with roughly the same size,` remove the current one and replace it? (I am never gonna use the cam so I don’t really care about covering it up)
July 7, 2015 at 10:32 pm #6640Good to hear, mine shipped out on July 6th, after I actually tried to cancel the order during the weekend :O
July 6, 2015 at 7:16 am #6595Hi, I don’t have the tablet yet, but I found this on Chris’ youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cMe9QWRePeE
In the comments section you can find the question “Do you got the charger plugd in?” to which Chris answers “USB 2 hub for mouse/ keyboard and charging. I’ll post a vid on it soon, it works on the Chuwi and allows charging and use of 4 usb ports all via the microusb.”
Hope this helps!
July 3, 2015 at 10:30 pm #6523Alternatively you can go for a generic 8″ Bluetooth keyboard + case, the one they recommend themselves is this one: http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_32670.html
The keyboard looks literally the same as the “official” Hi8 one :O The stand looks very suspicious tho.. But you get the point, any generic 8″ will do unless you really want to use the camera, or are concerned about the speakers being covered.
July 3, 2015 at 9:59 pm #6520Wow, I wondered why it has already been 6 days and my Chuwi Hi8 + keyboard cover has not shipped, while everything else I order from gearbest usually ships within a couple of days.
My guess is that they are lying about having it in stock.. as other websites like banggood say “The tablet case will be in stock next week, please wait for it patiently.” I assume it’s the same for gearbest but they lie about having it…
So your best bet would be to either cancel your order and wait for other sites to get it in stock, or just wait another week or so.
June 30, 2015 at 8:15 pm #6381Ouch! Sorry to hear that 🙁 This tablet looked so sturdy in your reviews, can’t believe it took so little to rend it unusable.
I really appreciate your test tho, gives me hope! I will just have to be extra careful and probably keep the chuwi inside it’s keyboard case at all times ._.
June 29, 2015 at 11:57 pm #6351Thank you so much for responding so fast!
I am planning on getting the same Mi 10400mah powerbank, so I am extremely grateful for your willingness to test stuff like that!
About the brightness – I will mostly be indoors, so considering the bright-ish screen I think I will be ok with even 20-30% brightness, as long as I can maintain the battery, or at least considerably prolong it’s life while connected to the power bank. This is actually the first tablet that I am purchasing for myself and I just kinda blindly assumed I can plug it in the wall / power bank and operate as if I am using a laptop, which I now realize is almost never the case with tablets. Would it be any better if I manage to connect it directly to a power socket while performing said tasks?
Thanks again for all your hard work, helping us choose the best Chinese tablets! 🙂
