I managed to solve this.

I tried two things – roll back the driver in Device Manager, and downloaded the Intel battery management drivers from the Intel website.

I can’t be sure which cured the problem, it’s a while ago now.

I attach the Intel driver cab file.

I also get this error message “The driver for this device has been blocked from starting because it is known to have problems with Windows. Code 48”

But I have to do it manually in RWEverything every time because this command does not work :

So I am gonna travel but somehow the sound is distorted with the 3.5 jack if I use a splitter too two headsets. Even if I use a extension cord it distorted. If I just use my headset all by itself there is no problem. Any one else that have this problem?? I tried that with a microsoft USB keyboard and a small type-c hub. No luck, keystrokes are not detected.

Tried on my Xiaomi Mi A1 and I could enter the pin with no problem.

Thank you so much for taking your time to help me so extensively like that. You will be right about the hardware limitation of our laptop. This is the drawback of choosing the less expensive laptop I guess. Though I’m not even mad, it’s not a gaming machine and I can still play some games I like 🙂

Problem persists. If I boot into Linux Mint Live, Fn + brightness keys function correctly so problem must be one of either driver or Windows update………

Thank you for your reply. I did some more research and it might have to do with CSGO as a game, but I’m not giving up yet.

In the Nvidia control panel (see attached screenshot), the MX150 is selected as preferred GPU, but the external display is still managed by the intel 620.
