Just to be clear, the last post about the S4 “part” was referring to a brand new laptop, the Jumper Ezbook S4 – it was a joke. The post about the “Q-36 modulator” was also a joke. Sorry to disappoint.

Yeah, it smelled like a joke, no more disappointing than the SSD shambles itself, and as good a way as any to deal with it 🙂

The new solution is called S4 Just replace the 3pro with a S4 part and it feels like you have a new Jumper

Not sure what you mean here by ‘part’ – an actual physical component needs swapping?

Actually this rubber thing is a bit rubbish so I think I’ll give stickers a whirl.  One problem it seems I’m going to have is the #/~ key, there doesn’t seem to be an option for that.  The overlay has \ and | on the Z and X keys respectively which I’ve stuck with, but it seems more sensible to stick with the key actually marked with that for US layout.  What has anyone else done for #/~?

I’d love to but for two reasons: cost and having to open the case.

I think I’ll tolerate the eMMC for a while, I seem to be getting about 1/2 SSD speed on read and 1/3 on write which hasn’t driven me mad just yet.  Hopefully by the time I am driven crazy by it there’ll be a reasonable 2242 option discovered by the more adventurous types 😀

ezbook 3 pro with bios dated Jan 2018… I tried before a Transcend MTS 420 240 gb 2242 but I found read speed almost zero (0….) while write speed was above 300

I was tempted to get exactly this drive since I’ve seen elsewhere that a Transcend drive worked in a 3 Pro but probably earlier than this BIOS version.  Anyone else tried this combination?  Is it really so hit and miss getting an M.2 SATA-3 SSD that works in this machine?

So with a bit of remapping every key on this overlay is now right except right Ctrl is Delete, the top row Fn alternatives are all wrong, and the Delete key booby trap remains the power button.  I can just slice the top row off and it will do the job nicely.

… And yet a nagging doubt remains that they can’t possibly have made this thing just to have it chopped up, and that immediately after I desecrate it the answer will turn up.  So I’ll bravely run away from the surgical solution, at least until I’ve fallen for the Delete key a few times.

Stickers was the plan before it arrived with the close but no cigar overlay, such a shame!  Maybe a few minutes with a craft knife and some glue…
