So far, with my 10 hours using it, only the speakers, screen vertical angles are the big let down for me. For $424 they should have used a better panel.
That’s my assessment as well for my unit, I am mostly unnerved by the false information given by GB in the first place in the product faq, and the fact that they still haven’t corrected it as of today – and their apparent refusal to communicate with me about it. Not used to that, but I guess I know better now.
My conclusion is that this is a big missed opportunity for Jumper because in most other ways this machine has exceeded my expectations.
September 8, 2017 at 11:56 am #71794I never received any response from gearbest about the screen. I have decided to keep the machine anyway, mainly because their are no similar products in the price range with a 7y30. I also don’t need or want a blazing uhd touchscreen, just this one with an ips. I also can’t afford to waste any more time getting refunds as I need it for coursework now.
On the plus side, I haven’t had any issues with the wifi so far, it also pairs very easily to my phone. The screen is a bit loose, but it doesn’t wobble when I’m typing so no harm there. It is also very quick, I am very impressed with the core m. It is also light. I also prefer 16:9 to 3:2, so that counts out some of the alternatives I’ve looked at.
However, gearbest continue to lie on their site about the screen and they haven’t even bothered to return my tickets. So I will be giving an honest review about this product and their dodgy behaviour in due course. I also just received a cube mix plus (not from them), and I am very happy with it, and this has helped me choke on my rage somewhat.
September 2, 2017 at 12:38 pm #71354Thanks Roberto for the return advice, you’ve been very helpful. And thanks also to Sx C for confirming my issues.
Shame about this laptop, hopefully the next one will be better….
September 1, 2017 at 10:58 pm #71334how to calibrate the screen and make it less blue?
I calibrated it with a Spyder Express 4.
September 1, 2017 at 10:50 pm #71332I would also like to hear from someone else that has this unit. I thought it was faulty at first, but after looking closer at the gearbest page it only claims to be 16:9, 1080 and FHD which it certainly is.
The refunding with Gearbest is not the fastest but was reliable in the past for me.
By not the fastest, how long did it take? When I complained about Windows 10 not activating they got back to me in a day, but for this problem it has been five days and nothing. I even sent them a video showing the problem. They sent me a link to the warranty when I sent a ticket about the windows activation issue, and there was nothing there about being able to return the product because you don’t want it for some reason. I hope your right, because I would like my money back for sure.
September 1, 2017 at 1:25 pm #71297I received my 3 Plus a few days ago and I am very disappointed in the screen. It isn’t glossy (no problem really), but I can’t see how it is possibly IPS because the view angles are awful. There is no angle where the screen is consistently one shade. When you tilt the screen forward, it gets washed out even on a shallow angle. It looks like a photoshop gradient on a dark background. It’s more bearable on a white background. Perhaps I’ve been spoiled, but I haven’t seen a screen this cheap in a long time. I was thinking that it may be the antiglare filter, but I doubt it.
The screen also looks blue out of the box, but it got a bit better after I calibrated it. It’s only 60% srgb, which is bad. The colours are definitely muted so it isn’t just a benchmark.
It also wouldn’t activate windows, but that was fixed after I complained to gearbest (not sure if they did anything). I tried to DOA it with gearbest because they were wrong about the screen specs and it is clearly not what was advertised, but they have ghosted me so far on that one, so I fear I will be stuck with it.
Otherwise, the laptop is very snappy and I am surprised by how powerful the chip is. The keyboard and touchpad are really good as well. Nice build quality overall and it doesn’t feel at all heavy for a 14″. But you don’t look at the cpu all day. My advice is to give this a miss until Jumper explain what went wrong, if that’s the sort of thing they do.
