I have Realtek so I don’t need the download. BUT.. This Bios has almost no functions I can configure. it’s a very sad bios. Is there any other way to get a Bios version that will allow me to tweak the bios like a user is supposed to?
March 13, 2016 at 7:43 pm #29211I am using IMO the best version of Firefox called ” Light Firefox” found here at SourceForge https://sourceforge.net/projects/lightfirefox/ This is a scaled down Firefox. The company says, ” A light browser based on Mozilla source code. Many components are slimmed down. So it can start faster and use less memory. By default, Light can run along with firefox. Both x86 and x64 builds are available.” It can do all extensions and addons. You may have to install Flash before you view youtube.
I also use the best version of Chrome called SlimJet by the folks who made the popular SlimBoat browser years ago. SlimJet bills itself as the “Fastest browser on Earth” and it is very fast. It’s also scaled down, based on Chromium not Google Chrome. SlimJet is designed for security and anti spying. It has lots o tools built in so websites can not track you. It won’t unlike Chrome send all of your data to Google. This keep you from having to install a lot of 3rd party extensions for security. Also has a built in ad blocker. SlimJet is also loaded with tons of features most browsers do not have suggested by the community. SlimJet also lets you use all Google Chrome extensions, add-ons and anything you can get through the Google Web Store such as google apps all work with Slimjet as if it were Google Chrome.
I suggest if you use Light Firefox to go ahead and fill it with anti tracking anti spy tools of your choice. These are the only browsers I will use for speed and security. Hope this helps.
March 12, 2016 at 7:59 pm #29097I have the same problem. I opened up the Chuwi to try the solution mentioned above (removing the battery connector). Unfortunately, the chuwi doesn’t have such a connector. The battery is just soldered on to the board.. So unfortunately, still no solution.
My answer won’t help you but I bought the Chuwi for 1 reason simply because I could at least replace the battery albeit by soldering. My idea is to soldier a couple of quick connects to the board and also to a few batteries so when one dies I can easily change the battery. This ability makes the unit worth having IMO. If I could not have the ability to change the battery, I’d not have ever bought the unit. It makes no sense to buy a throwaway pc.
March 12, 2016 at 7:47 pm #29092I haven’t tried to open my case yet – and I won’t until the year warranty is up (my warranty is through Geekbuying) – But I know the unit runs hot. Core Temp tells me my TJMax thermal override is set to 195 F. While installing and playing games like Crysis 2, I can see the temp on core 1 get as high as 185 F.
The only thing I’ve done which does help is to make sure all unwanted and unneeded programs including all background hidden Microsoft apps/tools will Never run period. – To do this I had to spend two days tweaking my system.. but i’m extreme – I use Black Vipers site (http://www.blackviper.com/service-configurations/black-vipers-windows-10-service-configurations/) to weed out all unwanted Windows services used along with the tools Autoruns,( https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx) PServ (part of Gtools) (http://www.p-nand-q.com/download/gtools/) and Easy Services Optimizer (http://www.sordum.org/8637/easy-service-optimizer-v1-2/) (ESO is made to work based on Black Vipers recommendations) – I actually take hours to study each of the over 100 services Windows can run and I literately disable 3/4’s of the operating system – the Only thing my OS should do is run my games and surf the web – If Windows 10 wants to do anything more than that (and I mean ANYTHING ), I do not allow it. I get processes down in the 20’s at startup just enough for a slim core system to run.
I look forward to other ideas on the heat issue. Thanks for making the thread.
March 12, 2016 at 7:15 pm #29085I feel your pain. I’ve had mine for 4 days now and so far it still works. – BUT.. I have to ask – did you not know these Chinese companies Do Not warranty any products themselves? They operate backwards from normal retailers in the USA and elsewhere – Instead of the manufacturing company handling the repairs/returns they leave that up to the Re-seller company you bought the product through. I found out the hard way. You have to read the resellers warranty policy to get your unit fixed, not Chuwi.
I bought from Geekbuying and even though they took over a month to process and ship my tablet ( they still haven’t sent the docking keyboard i bought at the same time) – they did offer a full 1 year warranty on all non user caused defects. You pay to ship it to the California warehouse and from there they will repair or replace then ship it back to you on their dime. I chose this because if say i were to have bought the unit from Amazon, I would have no recourse for any repair or return.
It’s like you buy a Microsoft tablet from Amazon and instead of Microsoft handling the warranty, Amazon would handle it. Yes this is Strange, backward and No way to do business – I suspect within a few years once enough Americans and Europeans get fed up with this BS you will see these Chinese re-sellers going under.
Heck.. I hope and pray Japan starts making cheap tablets to compete with this new Chinese market because as we know from Sony, Panasonic, Cannon and the like that Japanese products are just as good as Made in the USA with just as good customer/product support. I’m heading up a national referendum to get all Japanese companies to make tablet that will compete in this market – That will kill China tablets for good hopefully until China grows up and learns to do business like the adults of the world.
February 27, 2016 at 8:37 pm #27312Thanks for the heads up. I ordered my tablet 21 days ago and they are still processing the order and they will not reply to my email. (Geekbuying) I have a related thread on this forum no one has answered in a week.
Good luck with GearBest. I’m getting so I can’t trust any of these companies period. Let the forum know please if you have any abnormal issues with GearBest. We folks need to start tracking these companies behaviors and make sure no one gets fooled again.
February 27, 2016 at 8:30 pm #27310It has now been 21 (TWENTY ONE) days since I ordered the tablet. Geekbuying still says my package is ” Processing” nor have they replied to my e-mail.
What do you folks think.. Does this sound like a company you wanna do business with?
Why in the week this has been posted has no one replied to this post?
Folks.. my research said Geekbuying was better than GearBest and all the rest but thats Not holding true. They snow job you with promises of a US warehouse ( for easier shipping) , a years warranty etc.. It’s starting to look like they just right out stole my money, including my 20 dollars extra i paid for fast shipping – thats obviously Not happening.
Geekbuying seems like THIEVES. It seems like they are right out stealing from me. Since no one replied to this post, I can only conclude folks are not having a better time with this company than I am.
After 2 very cheap low quality tablets Contixo, Pipo and now this issue i think folks should go back to American companies and forget the cheap china products.. Clearly the Chinese companies are not ready to do global business.
February 17, 2016 at 11:34 pm #26346@ Fireant – I’m looking to do this simply to make everything easier. I choose not to personally tell every program where to install at installation time as well as all the other stuff programs want to put on the C drive, if I don’t have to. 48 gigabytes is nothing to me.. I use that up with only 2 or 3 programs. Heck, 48 gigs wouldn’t even hold my documents or Appdata ( which Windows 10 doesn’t want you to move at all)
Unfortunately, they do not sell these devices with large drives so I have to workaround. It makes no sense.. they give you the power of 4 gigs of ram and yet not enough space to use it unless you really don’t do anything with your tablet but use it as a netbook.. which defeats the purpose in the first place.
August 16, 2015 at 7:36 pm #9864If you hold down the Volume UP button (Plus sign) on the top left of your tablet while rebooting, the dual boot menu will (should) load again.
I’ve had to use this trick to ensure the dual boot menu loads a few times. I do not know why sometimes it fails to boot by itself.
Best wishes to you.
