Flashbot, I am not sure what file you need. The firmware Banggood sent me is the exact one on Rick’s link. V103.V5 plain vanilla Android Only with No Phoenix dated late August. I tried the link to the firmware Banggood sent me, I do not think it works any more, but it was the same as the one Rick posted here.
However, if you are having issues with Rick’s Flash Tool, I think the Flash Tool Chris O. Linked to in his post way back at #74281 was the most complete with the best instructions. On Rick’s you have to insert a download agent I think. The firmware in Chris’ Link does not solve the problems, but you could use his flash tool to flash the plain vanilla or other firmware.
Some of this is from memory, I have not used the Onda in a while, but I think it is correct (ie, use your own best judgment).
December 31, 2017 at 2:26 pm #76288I followed Lorenzo’s advice and was able to update Play Services on 1.0.5V5 dual boot to the version he describes. This solves many of the errors I was receiving with out of date Play services.
So far, the only incompatibility I have seen is I still get the 501 error when installing Google Search from the Play store, and it just does not install from aptoide. I concur that this is the best solution so far.
I installed “Night Screen” from the play store (same as schermo notturno I think) and that also works. thanks again Lorenzo.
December 30, 2017 at 5:39 pm #76267Thanks Lorenzo, that is new information. I understand that with the Dual Boot 1.0.5V5 firmware you can update GPlay Services to 11.7 using Aptoide instead of the google play store. If that works, it is probably the best solution.
December 30, 2017 at 1:18 pm #76258Maciej, you are correct, 1.0.5V5 was a typo (that version has Phoenix). 1.0.1V5 is correct for No Phoenix. If someone is brave/foolish enough to try V6 or V7 please post the results.
December 30, 2017 at 12:52 pm #76256Problems getting the flash to start seem to be related to installing the right USB driver for the Onda (on you windows 10 computer). I think the link Rick Sharp posted in message 75191 has the most complete instructions and the necessary USB drivers.
It is also likely that some USB cables will not pass data correctly and could prevent flashing.
I believe the V6 and V7 firmware posted to Needrom are for newer hardware versions, and are not fixes for V5 Onda V10 tablets. That is not confirmed because no one has posted here yet who has tried them.
The biggest remaining issues with 1.0.1V5 (CORRECTED, No Phoenix) seems to be brightness, no ability to dim the tablet much. Also some have lost sound through the internal speaker. The GPS is terrible, but I suspect that is a hardware issue (perhaps fixed with V6 and V7 hardware changes?).
December 6, 2017 at 5:45 pm #75695Maciej, My results with V1.0.1_V5 are the same as yours. I never tried GPS on the other firmware.
Also, I see there is a new Onda V10 Pro ROM posted to needrom today. Version 1.0.1_V6. I am wary of flashing because I understood the number after the V referred to the hardware version, so this may be the same as 1.0.1_V5 for different hardware. Please post if you find out specifics on this ROM.
November 25, 2017 at 3:06 pm #75343Plamen, sorry to hear that the sound issue has not been solved. Picard’s post above suggests that flashing can cause multiple problems even as it solves the GPApps issue. Not a robust tablet. Reminds me of my old Fiat, a hobby rather than a tool.
Picard: I also flashed to 1.0.5_V5 – Android Only, and I am not experiencing the issues with the clock or Portrait Orientation. Re: the Time, it originally was set to Shangai, but I turned off automatic Date/Time/Zone, set it to my local time, and then turned Automatic back on. Its retains the correct time when rebooted. Portrait orientation seems correct. I normally use the auto-rotation settings, which work, and the soft buttons are on the bottom.
Things I noticed about 1.0.1.5: Screen brightness is pretty high even at the lowest settings. The text size/DPI seems a little different than on other firmware. The Google services version in the dual boot roms was 440, on 1.0.1 it is 446.
NOTE: I got my image directly from Banggood, not from Rick. I believe it is identical: Kernel 3.18.19+ lusj@elinkteck-236 #1 Mon Aug 28 19:02:01 HKT
Build MRA58L dev-keys firmware V1.0.1_V5
November 23, 2017 at 5:25 pm #75262Your screenshot shows ROM 1.0.1v5 The ROM posted on needrom (posted on 10/23/17) is version 1.0.5v5 The newest I think. It probably won’t solve your issue, but if you have not tried it….
November 22, 2017 at 9:34 pm #75227No sound. That’s bad. On the 4PDA.ru forum the poster who lost sound said the headphone jack and bluetooth sound on his still worked, just the speaker did not. Still watching that to see if a solution shows up for that poster.
It is not clear to me if you tried the 1.0.5 rom posted on the needrom site (Chris posted 1.0.4). Worth a shot if you have not. Note all of these are supposedly only for V10 Pro v3 and V5 (whatever that means) which are dual boots.
Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than me will provide help.
November 22, 2017 at 2:08 pm #75206Thanks one more time Rick, for this flash tool link. I see that it has not only the most recent (and older) Mediatek flashers, but also 2 alternate USB drivers if they are not already installed. bookmarked!
November 21, 2017 at 10:52 pm #75189My suggestions were:
1st, try a Factory Data Reset (in settings under Backup and Reset. If that does not work, then.
2nd, Reflash it with Rick’s same firmware. My guess is that it was a flashing error rather than something wrong with the image.
I did notice that unlike Chris O’s firmware, the flasher on the one Banggood sent me was all in Chinese, and I had to add 1 step, that is, I had to specify MTK All In On DA as the download agent.
November 21, 2017 at 7:06 pm #75175With my Phoenixless V10, the sound works fine and the built in mic works on the sound recorder app. So, I think it may be related to the flashing rather than the firmware image.
I see on the 4pda.ru forum thread that one owner lost sound when they installed the latest 1.o.5v5 dual boot firmware, and the sound was fine for me on that one. SO, you might try a wipe/reset or reflash to see if the problem goes away.
I have not noticed any issues so far with this image.
November 20, 2017 at 7:44 pm #75140Thank you Rick. Because of your information I requested the Android Only rom from Banggood and they sent it to me as well. I can confirm it works great loading a very plain vanilla Android 6.0 and eliminating Phoenix. The firmware is version 1.0.1V5 dated August 28.
All works well, as Rick states everything updates through the play store as normal, and the GPS version is 11.7.46 (variant 446). Google Home app works great, which I could not install in the Phoenix bios.
November 19, 2017 at 3:42 pm #75054I think the only permanent solutions are to root the device (quite complicated) or to eliminate Phoenix like Rick Sharp was apparently able to do.
Rick: Do I understand correctly that you originally purchased an Onda V10 Pro dual boot system (Phoenix and Android 6) and that the file Banggood sent to you converted it to an Android Only system that works! If that is the case then it is the best solution so far. If it is like the other Firmwares posted it is a very large file, but would be a great solution if it can be shared. Let us know. If you cannot post a file that large to share on Gdrive etc. perhaps others here can do it for you. thanks to all for contributing.
November 18, 2017 at 11:50 pm #75023I’m pretty sure if you have the tablet Rooted and have installed #SuperSU you should be able to update the APK to the most recent version. When prompted during the install, give the app permission. This is from memory, I can’t verify. Still waiting for my replacement V10 Pro.
Tom confirms this above.
And the moderator of the Phoenixstudio bbs writes: “Check with ES file or X-Plore the apk file ownership and permissions (/system/app or priv-app) and copy over the new GMS with same same name->overwrite… But you must match the perms and ownership.
Restart and that is it…”I think to do this you would need root.
(For some reason whenever I post a link the message does not post)
