Will GApps be preinstalled? If not, can I flash it after flashing the miui.zip?

I made up a recovery flashable zip for play store (not full gapps). Download link & instructions added on iWork 10 MIUI thread

Proper gapps to follow as mentioned earlier…

How us the speed vs stock rom?

After the second boot it seems a bit faster than the stock ROM.

Ran antutu on stock, miui & the stock deodexed/debloated ROM I cooked up (my current daily driver). The results are attached.

No huge differences here but looking at the antutu results it’s obvious that the stock rom lags most in both CPU & RAM tests as compared to miui (and my deodexed/debloated version).

I have a feeling that miui has the potential to be even faster once it’s debloated and tweaked a bit: As mentioned in the previous post I plan on cooking up a custom ROM based on this miui one in the near future.

No gapps on this one, it’s the original chinese version, not the global.

I tried flashing opengapps (pico) but doesn’t work out. I’m travelling now for work, not much time, but I’ll play with it a bit over the next few days and let you know here if I get it working.

In any case, once I get back home (june 12) I’m going to start cooking up a ROM based on this chinese one that is debloated and includes gapps and some other goodies, so stay tuned…

Will it leave windows untouched? How us the speed vs stock rom?

    Yes, windows remains untouched.

Can’t say about speed as I didn’t test it enough to really compare, just made sure all the basics are working.

Subjectively speaking it seemed snappy enough.

I’ll try to do an Antutu comparison and post results later if day job permits… 😉

No “reboot to windows” shortcut on home screen/app drawer. (but it does remain on the power button menu)

I’ve only been using the regular usb 3 otg (HAMA).

The usb 3 port on this device supplies 5v power

I have a USB audiophile device that uses draws plenty of power from the USB port and is vital for my primary use of the tablet. Is there a way to have an special OTG cable that prevents the tablet’s battery charge to empty too fast? I have one with 2 USB2.0 connector for devices and 1-port that supposedly is used to connect the charging cable so the tablet doesn’t discharge or does discharge at a supposedly much slower rate, but when using this OTG cable with the charger, Windows doesn’t acknowledge it and functions as there is normal battery discharge.

I think you need something like this: http://www.amazon.com/USB-OTG-Power-Y-Cable/dp/B00H3J0L0A

Maybe is there a USB3.0 OTG cable that let me connect my device and keep the charging port free so I can connect to the charger? Which one do you recommend?

Yes, i’ve been using one i bought at a local Hama store: https://www.hama.com/00015709/hama-usb-30-otg-adapter-cable-micro-plug-a-socket-black-015-m?bySearch=usb%203%20otg#

There exsists also usb 3 OTG Y cable: http://www.dx.com/p/usb-3-0-female-to-micro-usb-3-0-otg-cable-w-adapter-black-20cm-289081#.VytQUx-6y1J

    pushing with a fingernail…

    Thanks for confirming this.

After trying again to no avail, I got out a dental tool I had laying around and lightly “massaged” all along the edge of the card. Sometime on the second pass i finally heard that magic click and out it popped. Now it’s easy to remove just with fingernail, so obviously something was a little sticky in there…

Does anybody happen to have an official updater zip (OTA or otherwise) for this device??? What I would need is a copy of the update-binary file located in the META-INF folder….

No need, I managed to find one in the meantime. 😀

Hi, new user here. Just got the Cube iWork 10 ultimate (dual boot ver) and curious if their is already a way to add custom recovery to the android side? Less for full blown custom roms (at least right now) and more so for little things like the ability to install xposed and the like. will probably go looking into the cube Chinese forums eventually for other things but definitely curious.

It would be worth noting here that aside from the actual charger the most important factor is the usb cable itself, specifically the AWG (wire guage) of the power lead in the usb cable you are using. Most usb cables have a 28 awg power line and no matter what charger you have you will not get more than around 500mah to the device. A cable with a 24 awg power wire will be able to handle 2 amps and this is really what you want.

Second thing to note is that the cable length absolutely affects the amps the device can draw. The longer the cable the less amps will end up at the device. A 0.5 meter cable with 24 awg power line will be able to draw more amps to the device than a 3 meter cable with the same gauge.

I’ve got a list of other priorities for this device and stupid realities because of my day job but I will try to do some detailed testing and post back here.

Main thing is that you need to make sure that your charger is at least 2A and your cable has the power wire gauge (24awg minimum) to support it. Stick with a shorter cable, the shorter the better. Unfortunately 99.9% of cable manufacturers don’t publish these specs so it will take some digging…

At the end of the day the device itself decides how many amps it will accept from the charger, and this is possible to change if you have root access. But keep in mind that changing these thing is dangerous and I would not recommend. At the very least, changing settings to speed up your battery charging will decrease the overall battery life…

I’m trying to make a recovery flashable stock deodexed, debloated Android ROM and my main obstacle at this point is not having access to an update-binary compiled for this device (intel).

that’s great but… does that recovery stick? cause the boot.img contains the original one and it’s supposed to re-flash it if it detects a change, so theoretically we should put this in the boot.img…

Need to rename /system/etc/install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak or delete it. Preferably in TWRP file manager before first boot into android otherwise it will just overwrite with stock recovery. Then it sticks just fine. 🙂

    I put detailed instructions here

Laura, thanks much for this great thread!

I have some good news for all of you, thanks to xda member vampirefo we now have a working custom recovery (TWRP 3.0.2-0)

Worth noting if you intend to flash SuperSU from recovery is that due to unusual moint point of system, the SuperSU script will not properly mount system and it will not actually flash. Before flashing SuperSU you need to manually mount system in TWRP!

I have posted a general step by step for unlocking, flashing modded boot image, flashing TWRP recovery & SuperSU here
