New 12V Power supply?

    Does anyone know the 12 V tip size?

    I need a new 12V power supply. The wires at the base have been compromised due to excess bending pressure.

    Plus with a local pin adapter it.is not.very practicable.

    ######

    WILL THIS FIT?

    2.5mm*0.7mm ?

    http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/162008725863

    Personally if 0.7 is the dimension of the Samsung pin well I would guess visually the i7 book pin is about the same.

    I want a ‘laptop style’ PS. Where there is a lengthy AC to “figure 8” cord before the PS itself.

    I like the magnetic ring on the linked PS.

    Might cut down on DC buzzing you can hear via headphone speaker when plugged in – definitely with sound off.

    At any rate those are my rambling thoughts on this till anyone either gives thumbs up or says “hey idiot why not get a multi tip 12V or even adjustable PS?”

    I guess for $12 USD I like the idea of a cheap dedicated power supply. That is a little ‘over current’ If anything it should ‘run cool’… have you ever killed a laptop PS by leaving a blanket over it?

    If it’s rated for 3.33 A then if only drawing 2.5A MAX

    Weight. I expect PS capable of higher voltages + currents to weigh more.

    Thankyou @Benjiro have you read my post above and tried to replicate my results?

    I have a 128GB card working!

    I’ve had a funeral yeaterday so I haven’t had time to retry and confirm my process.

    yes but if you follow my link I try to explain that I like others have had problems under windows

    ok different tablet same problem

    you can see my screenshot @ the link with a working 128GB card

    Please refer to my post here;

    SD card issue

    I believe there is an issue with the partition table ie;

    MBR   vs   GPT  disks

    this is separate to the file system format. eg FAT32 exFAT ntfs hfs ext2/3/4 etc.

    I explain in more detail at the link.

    A lot of people seem to have issue with SDXC cards ie more than 64GB

    Ok, I’m using a Silicon Power 128GB micro sdxc.

    Full read/write test passed

    I have similar issues with the sd card slot. I believe there is a problem with the intel driver

    It does work with an SD card reader.

    Now interestingly I partitioned it when installing android x86.

    It seems to work.

    Formatting under android/linux isn’t THE answer.

    I believe this IS NOT even how the file system is formatted ie fat32 exFat etc.

    RATHER to do with the PARTITION TABLE ie. MBR vs GPT

    Now I must apologise for not remembering what I did… all I know is that I changed it!

    I assumed that it was changed to the newer GPT because of the UEFI BIOS REQUIRING GPT boot disks… I’m using it to (try) and boot Android x86

    It hangs at the Android logo so MAYBE it was changed to MBR.

    Sorry I can’t confirm right now.

    This is the most solid lead I have.

    I’ll try to make a linux probably ubuntu boot disk to run Gparted to have a look at the partition table;

    strangely my memory was that I divided the SD into roughly half

    with one ext4 partition

    the other fat32

    My memory may have failed me?

    As the screenshot shows ~116 GB which is about what I’d expect for FAT32

    ***I’ll keep on it but I feel like there is an answer here,

    good luck with your own exploring!

    Keep in touch with your results***

    I guess with all my talk of motorcycle batteries I was thinking a 12V lithium motorcycle battery… I would have thought it would be easier to get a sealed lead acid on a plane than such a big lithium battery though?

    I’m not so impressed with Remix 3.0 my device runs hot v slow albeit from a slow sd card and wifi was too unstable

    Skylake runs much better on a 4.5+ kernel.

    CM 13 9/24 2016 build seems to work ok… I want Heroes of Order and Chaos to work unfortunately I can only run it properly on memu emulator… but im just so unimpressed with Win10 as a tablet OS

    I have the i7 book. I had to do a reinstall after using an insider build.

    I had to manually insert/inject the drivers into the windows image after converting the install.esd to inställ.wim

    fun times… requires another win10 machine… o there is a software package called NTlite but I couldn’t work it out

    @Franzli

    Nobody has even stated what revision the USB PD is either.

    There are power banks that have a pin jack to output selectable voltages usually 9/12/15/18 V.

    There are car starters but I don’t know how long they csn supply the power for out of thst port and those things can supply hundreds of A albeit for a very very short time. If you were to test it I’d imsgine you would want to put a fuse and maybe a switch on it too to svoid sparking

    @Daniel
    I have seen cables that do usb to 12V but I wonder on their resistor value to get more than 500mA.

    Personally I don’t see this being particularly efficient.

    I’m thinking personally a 12V AGM lead acid motorcycle battery. They’re a lot cheaper than lithium. They can be charged faster.

    AGM should be able to be deep cycled.

    The 12V voltage doesn’t need to be stepped for the tablet.

    Again a fuse and a switch is probably a good idea…

    If I want usb well I can just attach a socket and a car charger.

    Looking on ebay you can get 60000mAh worth of power In an AGM motorcycle battery r just over 20 US…

    Even if it’s not deep cycle I’m very tempted. Just don’t run it dead flat all the time right?

    Is it worth putting a shim on the RAM I wonder? Shame there’s no sensor… Anyone want to try stress testing it while open and use an IR thermometer?

@vgiozo1

    I have written quite a bit in other posts about the mindf@#% that is usb type-c – check out the i7 book accesories post.

    Trying to get chargers and cables that are in spec is a nightmare.

    Second. Is the buzzing occuring when plugged in? That would be an earthing issue. Not unusual with crappy chargers to inject noise.

    Third. Usb 3.0 speed – I wonder if it is poorly shielded. I have an asus router that gives similar speeds because on that model they forgot shield the connector’ I think some copper shielding tape does the trick. I have the i7 book and my usb 3.o speeds are up to 150.

    Maybe you got a bit of a dud.

    On the SD front I’d guess it’s a driver issue. People talk about this on the i7 book and when driver updated problem sorted.

    calibration maybe? I preinswrted the drivers I downloaded from here into the windows install.esd (after converting to .wim) No problems there

    Is it occuring when the tablet is plugged in or notand you’re not touching the metal of the case? If it’s plugged in capacitive screens sometimes have issues with chargers that are not earthed.

    Weird says that’s a thunderbolt 3 cable… Now the BIOS has an option for thunderbolt built in but makes no mention of an included chipset… hmmm so confusing.
