Never mind. Found it. Corners of the digitizer are alla messed up. If this is standard then I’ve found the issue.

You should also never change to dual channel memory. There is a setting for that in the bios. And regardless of what Ubuntu said, its not dual channel and it bricked one of my Hi12’s.

Linux shouldnt be a problem honestly, there should be patches for everything, just need to find them and make sure they all along.

<span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>OSX might be a problem, i doubt you can get the bootloader running even. Kernel and drivers will be a major issue.</span>

If i can recreate what they did to my work laptop and windows 7 you’ll be the first to know however.

The problem is that windows 7 has little, if any support for pure UEFI boot. Which is the only thing these tablet have. They have no way of booting in legacy mode.

That said, my skylake based work laptop boots Windows 7 Enterprise in UEFI mode. However its too locked down for me to see what they did to make it work. I already triggered a remote wipe once trying to activate the USB ports. Caught a lot of flak for it as they know about my IT background and assumed i was trying to access something I wasn’t supposed to.

Technically, you should only need to delete the Android partitions from within windows. But considering this thing is Chinese, god knows what kind of crazy system they have implemented.

I’m gonna do the same thing once mine arrives, we’ll see if its as easy as it looks….

I actually didnt know the X80 Pro had a WUXGA screen. I though it was WXGA… That was the only reason I was even considering the Hi8 Pro. Bye bye Chuwi, its been a displeasure knowing you. X80 Pro ordered.

I opened a dispute with my aliexpress seller and asked him to cancel and refund. As my tablet has failed i have no use for it, and the tracking number is fake anyway, he hasnt shipped jack shit.

I preordered on geekbuying January 17th and arrived on feb 20th… totally dead. Nothing. Screen off, no red led while connected… The USB port seemed to feed a USB device if you connected, but after 2 minutes it would stop. Emailed the seller and after 2 standard emails (tried to charge it first? can you update the firmware? Can you connect to a PC? sight.) I sent it back. It seems today arrived to China, so let’s check the way they manage the warranty. 2 months and still without the Hi12… And be sure it will take another month to get a new one and be sure I’ll hace to fight with the seller to give back the 40€ I had to pay to send it back. It’s nothing to do with the seller, I’m sure, but I’m not the first to send it back. Maybe it’s an early product. More than 200 happy shoppings and never had such a nightmare.

Mine had exactly the same symptoms, except mine did work for a few days before it died. Other than that, spot on.

I got around 7 hours while it was working. Seemed perfectly acceptable to me.

This is exactly what happened to me. I was testing a Ubuntu live usb and was running diagnostics, so i left it on its own to do its thing. When i looked back at it 10-15 minutes later, it had for some reason rebooted into windows with a bluescreen and was just about to restart. It restarted and since then, absolutely nothing. It flashed the charge light for a few minutes, but after i forced a shutdown with the power button a few times, hoping it would cold boot, now it does absolutely nothing. Its hot to the touch so it seemes to be powered on, and doesnt react to the power button. Gonna leave it over night, hopefully it will discharge and wake up. But i dunno, we’ll see…

I got mine yesterday and i’m very fond of it. My programs, with one exception, all work fine. And thats not the tablets fault. Battery life is great and the screen is amazing….

I will be much happier when i get ubuntu to run on it though….

It is possible to upgrade the current model to dual boot. There are several settings and references to android inside bios in the current models. I would wager it is nothing more than an near stock android-x86 built. I’ll try remix os when i’m home from work.
