Try booting the laptop on linux with a live usb stick, then run geekbench to see how it compares. If you see a big difference it means its not a hw problem. In that case you can try reinstalling windows from scratch.
May 11, 2017 at 11:13 pm #66817I just realized that my machine has the highest score among all machines with Intel N3450 processors as well. Thanks arch!
May 11, 2017 at 11:09 pm #66816Another note, with all the software I used installed, I use about 8GB of space. That is why I am not planning to upgrade by adding an SSD, remaining 50GB will be plenty enough for my home use.
May 11, 2017 at 11:06 pm #66815I installed arch for the first time. Have been a mac user for about 3 years, and a linux user on commodity clusters and workstations. Even for me it was a little tricky. But the documentation of arch is excellent. I managed to get most stuff working in about 3-4 hours, and I’ve progressively learned arch basics over the following weeks as I used it. But the distro is very robust and minimalist; there is absolutely nonsense, you install only the things you need. When you update the system, every single piece of software gets updated simultaneously. I feel like I will be using this installation for the upcoming 5 years so it is well worth the pain. Look at geekbench charts for CHUWI NA14. All scores around 4300 belong to my machine (there are like 4 of them). The frunner-ups are around 4000s. That is the difference due to using arch.
May 8, 2017 at 3:47 pm #66667Regarding the battery discharge issue I mentioned, the other day I left the laptop unplugged in sleep mode overnight. There was no significant loss of charge. I don’t know what changed.
May 8, 2017 at 3:42 pm #66666I am using Linux so disabling touchpad was somewhat tricky (not supported b Gnome by default). Nevertheless, I managed to write a basic shell script that disables it when I need it. I am using it with an external mouse anyways, so this does not cause any problems. Typing is a better experience now, but still not ideal, as some keys still get skipped when typing very fast.
Regarding the heating, there is some indeed if you push the laptop hard for a long time. In normal use it is very cool (browsing web, watching youtube, etc.) I can say from my usage that this does not seem to cause any thermal throttling. I did not game though, pushing GPU at the same time might cause some thermal throttling.
I will probably be doing the heat mod that Chris suggested at some point. I ordered the parts except the thermal paste. Just waiting for a timeframe where I will be more available for such geeky stuff :D.
All in all, I am very happy to have a full-blown Linux machine with acceptable performance for 200E. I should also indicate that my battery lasts for about 9 hours on a mix of streaming youtube an browsing web. I haven’t done any of the battery optimizations suggested on Linux; so it is really impressive despite that.
May 6, 2017 at 4:00 pm #66605I could not get hdmi output working correctly using archlinux. I am not sure if it is Linux specific, or if there is a problem with my hdmi out. Can anyone confirm (linux or windows) if their hdmi is working?
May 6, 2017 at 2:25 pm #66596I’ve been using the device for about a month. I did a minimalist archlinux installation and getting a pretty good performance (4300 geekbench multi-core). I keep this device at home for web browsing, watching youtube and whatnot, and it does the job well. The screen is 1080p which is very good for the price (I paid 205Euros).
I have three major complaints. One, when I type, I get these random clicks from the touchpad even if my palm does not contact the trackpad. It is very annoying as it moves the cursor out of focus, and I need to click again to refocus the cursor and keep typing. This might be due to that I removed the metal bar inside, which I suppose was giving some rigidity to the touchpad region and preventing these random clicks (which happens due to pressure when typing I believe). Second, keyboard is not the best. Key travel is very good compared with other laptops, but it keeps skipping many keys when typing (particularly the h key). Another issue is that I could not get the HDMI out working the other day. I purchased a mini hdmi to hdmi adapter, but could not get any output. This might be due to using Linux, or defective hdmi adapter, I am not sure. Finally, when I put laptop to sleep, it loses charge very rapidly (about %30 of battery in 10 hours). Not sure what the heck is going on.
All in all, for 200 you cannot get anything better. Good performing machine.
April 16, 2017 at 4:01 am #65400OK, I just get rid of the shitty windows 10, and installed a clean Archlinux with the new Linux kernel 4.10. Here is the new Geekbench results:
https://browser.geekbench.com/v4/cpu/2554689
Basically, my single core score went up to 1460 from 1100, and multi-core score to 4300 from 2600. Damn you windows.
April 15, 2017 at 9:41 am #65369All of a sudden I realized that I no longer have this problem. I have no idea what fixed it.
April 13, 2017 at 7:57 am #65203Looking at the CoreTemp 1.6 values, my GT Core is always at 3W when idling. I tried changing graphics settings to balanced mode and to maximum battery life; it is still the same. Any ideas?
April 13, 2017 at 7:37 am #65201I have the same problem as well. With the default Windows installation, I managed to increase the repeat rate, and it was acceptably good. After doing Windows updates repeat rate became ridiculously low. Uninstalling the keyboard drivers did not do the trick for me.
April 13, 2017 at 7:33 am #65200I confirm this. I just removed the metal bar, there are no problems or tipping over or stiffness or whatsoever. There is a very slight flex if you push real hard on the trackpad area, but in normal use this is negligible. The laptop is significantly lighter now, and I am very happy.
January 24, 2017 at 11:28 pm #60882The keyboard of my laptop stopped working the day after I received it. I returned them with their dead-on-arrival policy for a full refund plus reimbursement for the shipping fees. Shipping took me 36Euros from France.
December 22, 2016 at 4:20 pm #59098Two times, I managed to get the keyboard working. I have no idea how (last time I was trying to hold the shift key when booting, but when I try now it does nothing).
When the Jumper logo shows up at the boot screen, on the bottom right corner there is a two digit number. When I received the computer, this number was 92, and everything was working smoothly. Right now, it starts by 98, changes to 92 for a few miliseconds, and finally changes to D7. When this happens, keyboard and mouse inputs (including external USB) do not work.
When I managed to get the keyboard working (where I got code 92), I resetted windows to a clean installation. However, after the reinstallation I started to get code D7 again. Now I’m back to square one.
Any ideas what this might be?
