Chuwi’s New Mini PC – The HiGame

Chuwi’s New Mini PC – The HiGame

Chuwi is getting back to the Mini PC market, but this time with a rather powerful one. Not a weak Apollo Lake or Gemini Lake SoC, but the new 8th Gen Intel Core i5 8305G. Based on Kaby Lake-G it’s a very interesting chipset that combines both an Intel CPU and an AMD dedicated GPU on one die. The GPU is a Radeon RX Vega M GL graphics, which is around 30% to 40% faster than a Nvidia 1050.

The specs of the HiGame are also very good, packed full of ports and upgradable RAM and SSD.

The HiGame packs a lot of ports, including  2x HDMI 2.0 & Thunderbolt 3.

  • 8GB DDR4 (Two SODIMM slots, upgradable RAM)
  • 128GB M.2 SSD (The slot supports 2242 & 2280 sizes, SATA3 & PCIe x4)
  • 2.5″ SSD/HDD bay.
  • Gigabit Ethernet
  • Wireless AC with BT 4.1
  • 4 x USB 3.0 ports
  • Mic & headphone jacks
  • Thunderbolt 3
  • 2 x HDMI 2.0 spec
  • 2 x Displayport 1.3
  • 173mm high, 73mm wide and 158mm long

Must say that it looks great, no word on pricing yet my guess is $499. But I would also love to see a cheaper bare-bones version. This way we can use our own RAM and SSD if we plan to go higher or have the parts ready to use. It’s going to be another crowdfunded project from Chuwi, the official page is here. So keep an eye out for when the crowd funder goes live. What do you think? I will definitely review this if I can. I should have in a week or two a $335 8th Gen 8250U mini PC to review with HDMI 2.0, NVMe SSD slot, 2.5:” bay so keep an eye out for that. I plan to review a few more mini PC’s.

  1. Just saw this on my news feed, then came over here to post it to you, and I saw your you already had it posted lol.

One off fact from the site I read is that it’s going to be around $999 USD not the 500 or you you had thought.

“Chuwi hasn’t set a final price or availability yet, but they are aiming for around $999 as a launch price, and availability in early July.”

    • *500 or so you…

    • Chuwi tech always seems to cost a little more than the other Chinese hardware companies, but $999 would be outrageous. Can buy a much better spec’d full-size PC at that price.

I don’t think many would think the mini-pc form is worth paying that premium.

    • $999 when the Intel version is around $899. I hope they lower that price, significantly.

  2. There is no comparison with the chuwi but the new gemini lake looks interesting too.
    NUC with the 10w/tdp J4005 :

    and the 6w/tdp N4100 :

    • The Alfawise is interesting; it looks like a Beelink S1 with Gemini Lake. BTW, Beelink should release new products later this month… 😉

      • Yes Beelink’ss can’t be far off as that Alfawise is just a rebranded one. I’ve ordered one so will review it when it arrives.

        • Great! Already ordered? Still as “Arrival Notice” on GearBest 🙁
Anyway, I’ll wait for the end of this month, as Beelink tweeted that they will release new gear soon 😉

    • I’m going to post about the new Alfawise N4100, it’s the first Gemini Lake mini PC and yes I will be reviewing that one. I’ve ordered it and hope to see it in a few weeks. As I plan this year to try and review a few more mini PC’s. I really want to see more fanless ones. But Also checking out a $335 i5 8250U mini PC from Aliexpress. This one I got to replace my i7 7500U fanless PC I just sold. I hate running my i7 8700k 1080ti desktop for mundane tasks like Chrome so will use a Mini PC, maybe even the Gemini Lake for a media PC connected to my 4k TV.

      • BTW, before you’re selling your old devices, why don’t you ask your ‘followers’ if they are interested, first? 😀

      • MSI and GigaBytes should release new N4100 mini PCs soon, afaik.

  3. Chris,a $335 8th Gen 8250U mini PC to review with HDMI 2.0, NVMe SSD slot, 2.5:”, you talked about – what is it?
    Who made it?

I am thinking about buying nettop(miniPC) and more aand more looking to Justify
It’s products in fanless variants, especially with 6th/7th generations of i5/i7 look nice

    • Justify = Hystou

    • Yes the Hystou i5 8250U mini PC NUC style on the Aliexpress sale I bought it to review for $335 with 2.5″ bay also. Unfortunately, it’s not passively cooled. They wanted to make it smaller so did away with the large heatsink fanless case for this CPU. I had there i7 7500U model for a while as my desktop fanless PC. Was great. So looking forward to this. But for some reason 10 days later the DHL tracking number still isn’t active. So not sure if it will arrive next week to unbox.

  4. Link still seems to be not working. Definitely looks interesting

  5. I really like the specs on this machine.

  6. Crazy specs, very interested to see what price it comes out at. Also interested to see some benchmarks for the GPU chip – can’t find much online. Would it be comparable or better than the 150MX?

  7. Chris the link is not working right now.

    • Not sure why it was working before. Chuwi’s servers must be having issues.

  8. Typo: the office page

  9. It should be a nice one, indeed, and I’m eagerly waiting for the Indiegogo Campaign to start! (last campaign for SurBook was just fine- let’s hope they ‘ll add more goodies in this one tho)

    • I just hope they give us a bare bones unit also for a bit cheaper. As I have 16GB of DDR4 RAM and a 256GB Samsung 960 Evo ready for it! I wouldn’t use the supplied SSD which is no doubt SATA3.

  10. Wow! TB3 and an 8th gen Intel CPU… makes Chuwi’s design the most advanced mini-PC available (or soon to be available)! Hard to believe that Chuwi is leapfrogging Alienware, Dell, HP, Lenovo, ASUS, et al., in the mini-PC space.

    • Intel does have a gaming mini pc coming with Kaby Lake G, but it will cost more than this one for sure.

      • Chris.. curious, Intel has a NUC8 near release? In any event, the new Chuwi is the first announced Core 8th gen mini-pc. Knowing Chuwi, I doubt that it will be the first to ship.
