I’ve just had a terrible experience with gearbest.

I made 4 orders 2 from china and 2 from EU, the EU orders were fine but the china orders (both, I made a few weeks apart) never turned up. Not tablets but not cheap items either both $40+.

They made me wait 2 whole months at which point I assumed I would get a refund, err but no. They offered me a refund of half the item cost because apparently it was the postage companies fault?!? What the actual f**k??

So obviously I have just claimed with paypal.

Please do not order from these robbing ba*tards

I use windows advanced recovery from there you can get to the bios or boot a uefi usb to fresh install.

That’s an incredible vague question, I mean Multitasking what? If you intend to have a bunch of chrome tabs, photoshop and some virtual machines running while encoding a 4k vid your obviously in for a bad time. Word and a bit of web browsing, no probs.

2gb is enough for a loads of multitasking scenarios and woefully short for many more… just tot up the ram usage of your usual usage patterns.

In no defence of Onda, as clearly the QC is appalling on these things… but I upgraded from the 64gb x98 Air II I’m very very happy with mine.

I put win10 pro on myself with onda driver pack:

    • Sim slot works fine on vodafone here in uk, but slow download speed compared with my LG G3 (in 3g mode), but I won’t use it. No biggy.
    • Mic works fine, I recorded myself with voice recorder it sounded good if anything.
    • Bluetooth works ok.
    • Wifi is stable on my home router (n7000 nighthawk) but not fast, still as fast you would expect from 150mps single band.
    • It runs really very smooth all the time, more so since I upped the memory speed. I couldn’t be happier about the raw number crunching of this thing, and I’ve had no trouble with throttling (but I don’t game on it).
    • I consistently get 4:50 run time this is 100% web browsing in chrome, which for the performance I get (ie over twice that of atom) I am very happy with, if I used Edge I’m sure I’d get a lot more.

I never wanted android and I would have put win pro on anyway so that wasn’t really a negative for me.

For me the only real issues are slowish wifi (they all do) and the dodgy resolution when not running native res, but then I don’t game on so it’s not an issue for me.

Another plus is upgradability, I have a bigger ssd coming so I can dual boot ubuntu that way I can actually do some programming on it when at conferences etc, I am also going to try and replace the 3g modem with an ac wifi card and that will solve my other gripe. Thats if I don’t get Lenovo Miix 700 first and loose all intrest in this thing.

Yeah 2gb of ram is the real bottle neck here, baytrail isn’t that terrible if you use software that supports Quick Sync hardware encoding on the cpu/gpu.

    Interesting vid from chippy https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dIrnnGfRXv8

But yeah 4gb minium I reckon, core-m recommended.

It wasn’t in the overclocking tab on mine, just in the normal type configurations it had memory speed set to “auto” I just changed it to 1333 been running for a few days totally stable.

Seems like this resolution thing is on going… that’s a shame.

Chris I never noticed this lag issue with mine and I can’t remember the last time I did a full reboot, it just hibernates overnight.

Also to add I did set the ram speed to 1333 from auto and I noticed a real difference in chrome, the scrolling etc was so much better. My battery runtime has been totally uneffected.

    My 3G works ok.

From reading around the dual boot bios is newer than the bios on the first single os shipping units (maybe it will fix the resolution thing). But Onda appear to have taken it down due to you not being able to activate windows. Probably why the dual os units are now coming with a dodgy KMS activated win10pro.

All a bit of a mess this… still I’m happy with mine, it does everything I need it too.

@bill-hedworth Can you help by explaining how you got a clean copy of Win10 to load please? Bootable USB created, get to install screen (US Lan, US Keyboard etc) then click next and get “A media Driver your computer needs is missing, this could be a USB, HD or DVD driver, If you have a USB, CD DVD with the driver on please insert now. If the installation media is on the USB you may remove it” Have tried going through all the folders of the x64 Win10 Drivers folder in the downloads section and cant get any further – any clues please?? Thanks In Advance

Kinda sounds like your usb media might be corrupt. I made a win pro 10 x64 stick and it install fine no issue at the screen your talking about.

I do suspect we’ll have something like that soon, as knowing the Chinese fondness for copies and the fact there really isn’t anything that matches the non-pro surface 3 at the moment.

My perfect tablet would probably be a surface 3 but with a core-m, 4:2 or 3:2, around 10″ with a dockable keyboard and stylus. Perfect.

Its is 100% an ssd and I’m 99% sure it will be m.2 and upgradable…. but 64gb is ok for me atm.. so I have no motivation to busting mine open.. just yet.

Well I was certainly not getting any throttling for my geekbench run as that score is pretty much bang on for a 5Y10c.

I will give mine a bit of a test but yes I guess it will have quite aggressive throttling I would imagine, its a v.small form factor for such a powerful processor. As a side note I have a macbook 2015 sitting here and that will throttle in a couple of mins if you 100% the cpu.

To me they’re not directly comparable, the v919 is purely a core-m consumption device. Its battery is small’ish, it doesn’t have usb3, in fact its connectivity is extremely limited, no companion keyboard, obviously no stylus support.

But it’s a better form factor and weight for holding in portrait. In my eyes you get the v919 for a smooth tv/movie/reading/webbrowsing device, the cube if you want a laptop replacement and need to get a bit of work done.

Unlucky dude, my teclast x98 was pretty easy to open, might be worth having a little look inside if your reset doesnt workout.

Out of interest where did you purchase your from?

Yeah the power adapter is total pants and like I said I would of prefered usb but then it probably isn’t powerful enough to keep the tablet running if your using it.

Think I’m going to buy this: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Zozo-40W-Slim-Universal-Laptop-AC-Adapter-Power-Charger-for-HP-Dell-Toshiba-IBM-Lenovo-Acer/32385811075.html

Its nice a slim and wouldn’t be too much of an annoyance to carry.

My screen isn’t laminated by the way. And I don’t think it does have a reset button, I’ll check when I get home from work.
