Further investigations shows that there is a strange damage to the file system of the SD card. It cannot be recognized at all by the mobile, but when I switch off the mobile, remove the SD card and mount it in a USB card reader, it can be read by my Windows PC. I was able to backup everything on the PC, but that is about all that can be done. You cannot delete the contents, not write anything to it, not reformat it, not repartition it and – so far – not repair it. I have tried every option available by Windows as well as several other popular SD-card management softwares. Windows admits that it fails, other softwares “pretend” that they have succeded, but in reality the have not.
I have been able to copy the contents onto another similar SD-card and mount it on the mobile, so everything is now back to normal without data loss, but I have lost a 32 GB SD-card.
August 31, 2018 at 11:54 am #146002Chris, you have probably already noticed, that still another update is now available, including a fix for an issue with battery drain caused by wifi. But I also want to share another possible remedy, that I found by googling. It read somewhere, that a reset of system cache could fix the problem, I tried it and, much to my surprise, there was an immediate improvement. I don´t understand how an excessive cache could cause battery drain even when the phone is idle, but, after all, I am not supposed to understand everything. I have just done the new update and and it will be interesting to see, if there will be even more improvement of battery life.
March 26, 2017 at 11:02 am #64023How about pinch to zoom. Is a fix for that included in the script? If not, does anyone know how to do it?
March 25, 2017 at 9:11 am #63962Thanks dje2006dje for the information. My old Teclast X98 dual boot has exactly the same boot selector image on the start up screen, but unlike Hi12 there is touch control, so it works like intuition tells you it should. Lacking any user manual, how is a new Hi12 user supposed to know?
On the Windows charging issue, don´t you think other users should have complained if it is a general issue and not my specific unit being broken. I wonder what Chris saw when he tested?

Hi Bjorn, where did you find the drivers?
They are here on the forum: http://techtablets.com/teclast-x3-pro/downloads/
I think there was one or two, that were not easy to locate, unfortunately I don´t rememember which ones. Don´t forget the TouchSetting.
October 6, 2016 at 10:30 pm #53834Thank you for your answer. There is no glue between the backplate and the casing?
The backplate consists of two parts. The center part is easily separated from the rest and is the one that you can snap away with your finger nail. The outer part is glued to the main case and you are supposed to be able to remove it by heating (although I failed to do that properly). But luckily, you don´t want to remove the complete backplate, just the center part. So, don´t worry about the glue.
October 4, 2016 at 11:03 am #52624Hi Sven,
It is not much to say actually, above what I wrote in my post of August 18. Make sure you first view and listen to the initial part of Chris´video, then go ahead with your finger nail. If, by exception, your unit is more stubborn than mine, you can use a credit card edge or similar instead of your finger nail. I have made a simple picture for you. Start where the picture shows and then work your way towards the USB ports and the power jack. I was surprised at how easily the lid snapped open, once I had abandoned my stupid first efforts.
Good luck!

The whole backplate shall be removed in one piece. It has a plastic frame, which you can open with your finger nails, just as Chris says in the initial part of his video “Teclast X3 Pro Internals. Sim Reader And Spare M.2 Slot”. Start at the edge with USB ports and it will easily snap up.
August 15, 2016 at 4:47 pm #46921I started my attempt today and it wasn´t succesful. The first part, opening from the USB port edge went well, but at the other end the edge with the volume control and power button just wouldn´t let the backplate go. The attached picture shows how far I got. Heating more and applying very gentle push upwards resulted, as far as I could see from the very restricted inside view, that, whatever the glue is attached to, lifts from the bottom and somehow even pushes the screen edge in the opposite direction. That scared the hell out of me, so I stopped immediately. The power button still works, thank God, but I couldn´tell if the volume button does, because my initial problem is that the SSD has (probably) crashed and the tablet doesn´t get past the Setup Menu.
What should I do now? How can I get the volume control and power button edge to release its grip of the backplate.

August 12, 2016 at 12:44 pm #46512Chris,
I understand you have to much to do to answer all requests for help, but please could you answer just this one:
I know you have opened TeclastX3 and also that you have written a tutorial on opening Teclast X2. Could please just say if the method is identical or not. I don´t want to break my X3.
Thanks
August 11, 2016 at 10:06 am #46413Chris,
My worries about future reliability were answered immediately by Microsoft when I started the reinstall process. The Install Media showed the 128 GB disk, but also stated that “Windows can not be installed to this disk. The disk may fail soon”.
Now I really need some good advice. To return the X3 from Sweden to Gearbest will cost around $50 if I send it registered and insured and the total procedure with Gearbest handling and shipping back and forth will probably be around 4-5 weeks – plus the risk for customs duty. So, I am thinking about replacing the the SSD myself, but there are some questions:
- It is possible to buy a drive locally for $50 (Adata Premier SP600NS34 M.2 2242 128GB). Speeds are specified at max 550 MB/s read and max 170 MB/s write. Do you think it is OK?
- Is there a risk that there may be other parts defective than the the SSD, e.g. the SATA connector?
- Is it easy to open the X3 and replace the disk? Is there a tutorial on opening X3?
- Does another brand of SSD require another driver or setting? (I have no prior experience with SSD disks.)
I am hesitant and need a push in either direction.
August 10, 2016 at 12:13 pm #46332Chris, after a lot of problems getting the Microsoft tool to accept any of my USB storage devices late yesterday, I finally succeded to create an install media. Unfortunately, none of the repair options can achieve any result, so it looks like I will have to do a complete reinstall. Then I of course worry about the drivers. I have downloaded the big chunk of drivers you have on your Download page, but there does´nt seem to be a comprehensive exe that installs everything in one go. Do I have to install everything one by one? Will it be sufficient to execute the oemXX.inf file in each catalogue?
And assuming reinstall will work out ok, I am already thinking ahead on what happens next. Was this total crash caused by a hardware problem (SSD or other) and should I trust my X3 to continue as my main PC in the future? What do you think?
August 9, 2016 at 7:56 am #46208Many thanks Chris for quick response and helpful suggestions. I will check them out later tonight (due to other commitments), but in the meantime, it would help me feel better about the status of my Setup menu, if someone owning a properly functioning Teclast X3 could upload screen prints (or photos) of the last two tabs of the Setup Menu – the Boot tab and the Save & Exit tab. Also on the Boot option dialog box shown when you press F7 during start.
November 24, 2015 at 8:58 am #16524I think you may confuse the 5 V DC plug with the AC charger´s wall plug. The DC plug comes with the charger. But thanks for your support for the need for a separate charging port.
