Nice discovery… now i have to check the Media Markt here in Germany. Did not see them the last time i was there, but i did not pay to much attention back then. Even with the lower end hardware, it may be an option for those who are not willing or able to take the risk with Gearbest.
Oh, on that picture in your living room, it does not look like there is too much room left for you, next to your wife.^^ I count 3 cats and one dog. At least they keep her warm.
January 29, 2018 at 11:11 pm #77926About the AFUWINGUIx64 in Windows… maybe a silly advice, but… the zipped folder has to be unzipped before you can use the tool.
Try the attached version.

You must be logged in to view attached files.January 29, 2018 at 9:06 pm #77912Patrick, are you still trying to use the shell to save a copy of your Bios?
Just use the windows version: AFUWINGUIx64 – Press Save and it will create a Bios copy.
IMPORTANT! Do NOT use the windows AFU to flash the Bios!!! It’s only safe to pull a copy.
January 27, 2018 at 6:48 pm #77828Let’s try it that way: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ve2x3nogfz9hlj4/V3.rom?dl=0
BTW, the missing Version Name of the v3: JUMPER2x.P8.WP313R.NHNAUHN04
January 27, 2018 at 6:14 pm #77825I’ve attached my v3 Bios dump in a blocked post. Maybe Chris will unlock it.
Until that, great work from both of you, thank you guys!
January 23, 2018 at 11:05 pm #77570That’s what i was expecting^^ Now i’m curious how you did it and if it works for all versions. But i think i can wait another day.
Tumbs up!
January 23, 2018 at 7:19 pm #77562I can’t help with the lag issue sadly, but i don’t think it’s a v4. Locked power options and recieving date points more towards v5 or v5.5.
Since you are only talking about lags while browsing, could it be internet connection?
You could also check the driver with the Intel driver assistant. I think the one on mine was outdated.
If you own a USB to Network connector, try a wired connection.
January 23, 2018 at 7:04 pm #77560A quick guide is kind of funny… I can tell you how i did it. (Based on Hodins great work and discovery. Thanks again, Hodin!)
You need a clean FAT32 formatted USB stick with not more than 8GB. Laptop should be fully charged and connected to charger.
Make sure your Bios is a v5!!! (You can check that with HWinfo for example.) v5 is build 11/06/17 Bios Tag 3BANS010. Even better would be to check your Bios dump with AMIBCP. Also check the v4 Bios if it’s the right one! Both versions should be Bios Tag 3BANS010!!!
Make a copy of your current Bios and store it on the USB stick. Rename it to v5. (I used AFUWINGUIx64 for that.) It’s save to do it out of Windows. IMPORTANT! Do NOT use AFUWIN to flash the Bios out of Windows!!!
Now you need a valid copy of a v4 Bios. Rename it to v4 and put it on the stick. v4 is build 08/07/17 Bios Tag 3BANS010.
Look for AfuEfi64, extract it if packed and put all files without folder on the stick.
Now restart the Laptop and switch to Bios. Go to Boot Menue and select “Build in EFI shell”.
In efi shell, switch to the usb stick and check directory to make sure.
Now you can start the flashing process with the command: AfuEfix64.efi v4.rom /P /B
Let it do its work…
After flashing is finished, exit efi shell to Bios and restart.
Let it load into windows, than power off.
After the restart, Bios v4 should work.
IMPORTANT!
I’m not responsible if you damage your Laptop!
Flashing only works from v5 down to v4 at the moment.
You may want to wait with flashing based on this guide till another expirienced user confirmed all steps.
You may want to wait another day or 2 if Giovanni can find a rather save way to unlock Bios!
January 21, 2018 at 7:15 am #77418It’s written in MM/DD/YY, so the date is 5 December. Your Bios/Laptop is a version 5.5 or 6 (the most current as of today) based on these informations:
V4 or V5 or V6 or Bios or whatever that spoils a thread!!!!!!!
January 20, 2018 at 8:55 pm #77397Great finding Giovanni! Would be really nice if it works.
And sorry for going off topic, Peter. But like Giovanni said, your initial Question was more than answered. After that, this thread went dynamic.^^ And if Giovanni’s discovery works, a lot of people will be really happy.
January 19, 2018 at 6:24 pm #77250Great, now we also have the “v6”. At least if the changes justify a new version No.^^ Wich leads me to the question about remarkable changes of Hard and/or Firmware?
Please be carefull with “naming” of system relevant informations! The only “5.12” number i could find was the Core Version 5.12 on the Bios Main page.
And that number is the same for v3 and v4. (Missed to check it on my old v5, but i could bet it is the same.)
Could it be the Bios Tag that “makes” the different Bios versions compatible? At least for v4 and v5 it is the same.
January 18, 2018 at 11:25 pm #77223As far as i know, there is no v6 as of today…
Please refer to this thread if you want to find your version: https://techtablets.com/forum/topic/v4-or-v5/
“Safe” is relativ when it comes to flashing the bios…
But i can confirm that the way described here and in the other thread works to flash from v5 down to v4.
I did it just minutes ago and Laptop is running with unlocked bios v4.
January 18, 2018 at 11:00 pm #77215The Intel programm “Intel driver- and support-assistant” should also help to find missing or old drivers.
January 18, 2018 at 10:56 pm #77214OnV3 it was screen/brightness related for sure. You could drop the brightness to 37% without noise. Everything under that made a high pitch sound wich was increasing with lower brightness.
I know the same behavior from Flashlights with PWM controlled brightness.
January 18, 2018 at 8:48 pm #77206Juha, sadly i can’t help with reprogramming the chip but i wish you good luck! Hopefully it works.
Just wanted to say that i think your initial flashing problem was caused by trying to flash your V4.5 with the V4 Firmware.
From all i know, they are not compatible. So it won’t work with reprogramming either. But maybe you are already aware of that?
