Just wondering if anyone’s tried this or some thoughts, my hi 10 plus is a beautiful machine and I love it as a companion PC but I have to admit, being at a Starbucks, it doesn’t really connect that well to the wifi or wifi is really slow.

I’m thinking of using a Wireless AC dongle with my Hi10Plus. As in connect it via micro-usb and then to the full sized USB on the dongle itself. Has anyone tried this or rather, would it help with strengthening the wireless connection?

    Ladies and Gentlemen,

    PSA… http://www.drivermax.com/driver/search/search_version.php?devicename=Realtek+RTL8723B+Wireless+LAN+802.11n+USB+2.0+Network+Adapter&win_ver=10.0&win_arch=64

The above link is for a relatively new driver for the stock WiFi card shipped in the Cubei9. My WiFi speeds were AWEFUL to say the least. When I mean aweful, like .5Mbps from 3 feet away from my expensive linksys wrt1900acs router! I simply installed this driver linked above (dated ver. 3-7-17) and eureka! I am now getting 20mbps through 2 rooms without any hassle. I strongly suggest to all cube owners to update to this newest Realtek driver! I hope this helps. If, so, comment. If not, ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. This tablet is now my official everyday driver.

    Cheers!

X5, though?  Onda oBook 10 pro is selling for less than a third of Surface 3’s cost right now, with similar specs (X7 Z8700, 4Gb RAM)  except for the small battery and 16:10 screen, single-band WiFi.  It has DC port and USB-C, though, which Surface didn’t, so a power bank should see it through a day.   I expect build and stylus performance to be unflattering in comparison, but it’s currently AUD 300, USD 225 with keyboard and stylus – the active stylus recharges via micro USB, too, no AAAA battery needed.  Lenovo’s own IdeaPad 10.1″ with Z8700 was Surface 3 price level, too.

Some one said about local repair fee cover by gearbest too. But it is unclear now. I want to know to. <span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>The flashlight USB seem promising. You need an external HDD box with Windows to Go. That is what I usually do, or a Live Usb Limux with flash led</span>

Well I’m also interested to know if they cover local repairs, but i think they don’t, as someone could have requested a 150$ bill for a 10$ repair, they have no real way of checking that i think. I am waiting for their reply on that.
I just tried with the exact same hub and USB flash drive with windows installation as i used to actually install fresh Windows 10 to the tablet once i got it, but no response at all. Tried once again with the flash light too at the same time so i know that the tablet was on. The fact that it didn’t work mean that either there is an issue with the screen, or with something else on hardware level. (Athough i dont think its the screen, because windows would have made a sound when opening/keyboard would work/external monitor too/it would be automatically connect to my wifi or ethernet, but nothing of this happened, which suggest other hardware issue, or in the case its software related, its at bios level…
I’m waiting on their reply about the cost of the local repair and more important about the warranty, so I can make the next move which will be taking it at a local shop most likely, as I bought the tablet to use it for work when I’m away from desktop, and its not ideal waiting 2-3 months for it to return from China…
Also i hope it can be fixed, otherwise if Gearbest decides its not eligible for refund i will have to buy the exact same one, because i have gotten unique accessories for it (dock/case/tempered glass/adapters etc) totaling about 80-90$.

My HiBook Pro got problems from the start (useless USB 3, flaky touchscreen, poor performance) and dead at the end (the power management chip short circuited internally). It has a very good screen (High Resolution, good brightness, and OGS) though.

Cube iWork 10 is a great budget choice, it is still alive and still working just as new until now. I will give short opinion about the feature you stated on my previous experience, new revision might fixes the issue I experienced.

    • I doubt the refreshed CPU will give any noticeable speed improvement. The tablet was fine for basic task, especially considering the price.
    • The keyboard dock will randomly disconnect if you move the tablet, so just be careful, especially when you have storage device connected.
    • The keyboard is very comfortable for day to day use, no complain there. You need to disable the Windows 10 gestures on the touch pad using AutoHotKey to disable annoying gestures when using the touchpad.
    • I would not recommend the active stylus for frequent use, seemingly not as good as my Samsung tab, and noticeably slower. It also uses battery so much, even you don’t use it frequently.
    • Dual OS is major feature for me, as Windows 10 doesn’t really friendly for tablet media consumption. BUT, I mostly use it as Windows 10 mode before I gave away the tablet.
    • Cannot give any comment about USB type-c, just hope it doesnt have USB 3.0 speed bug just like my old HiBook Pro.
    • 64GB is fine for my usage (a bit low on Android), and the micro SD card reader on my tablet is faulty. It will not read SDHC / SDXC properly. I only put 8GB card in it, as it is the only card reliable and survive multiple reboot.
    • Never used the MicroHDMI feature, I have my PC for desktop use.
    • The battery is fine, but it charges relatively slow now (informed by the current owner), probably the power IC also busted ?. Never check it again, not mine now.
    • Single band wifi is fine for that tablet, the CPU power doesn’t even allow 4K youtube. I personally always bring USB 3.0 to gigabit ethernet as I use that tablet frequently to setup router/cctv/server/pabx, etc on client area.

My opinion? If you really need budget choice and dual OS support, this is probably what will I get, you can’t go wrong with it. It is cheap, very good quality compared to another chinese tablet. Another tablet choice is also stated on my previous post.

I never tried another tablet until now, still waiting for tablet as I stated on my previous post.

Thank you, I am just a consumer that want to share my experience about the Chinese tablet I bought.

(The issue i have can’t be related to the issue users had with surface 4 with deep sleep, as i did removed the battery which would have solved the issue. Either way, i tried it but nothing changed.)

Also I plugged a usb flashlight to the cube’s usb3 port (with adapter) and also in the type-c port (using adapter) and it worked. When i pressed the reset button to force close the tablet, it did closed and stayed there until i pressed the power button again to power on the tablet. Not sure if it says anything new, but just another indication that the tablet is actually on. Screen is still off (no sign of life at all), and i also plugged my motospeed mechanical keyboard which has different light when actually working and different when it just gets juice. And according to the lighting, the kb wasn’t detected by the tablet, just got power from it…
Finally I did connected the tablet to my router with a type-c to ethernet adapter, but unfortunately it didn’t show up in the router interface. Same with wifi, which should had auto connected if tablet had loaded windows properly…

After much research regarding Chuwi HiBook Pro, I found myself not liking the tablet at all.

There are too many issues regarding the tablet and too little support.

I saw a potential alternative, I read your posts about the old Cube iWork 10, and it got refreshed with new X5 Z8350,

I think I might buy it.

Highlights to the Cube iWork10 Flagship Z8350:

    • Refreshed to Intel Cherry Tail X5-Z8350 and Intel HD Graphics 400
    • Improved performance over the Z8300 version
    • Same design and keyboard attachment (Magnetic Pogo)
    • Supports Active Stylus
    • 4 GB RAM and 64 GB Storage (Supports Expansion)
    • Dual OS Support
    • USB Type C Support, MicroHDMI Support (4K Video Playback)
    • MicroUSB 2.0 (OTG Support)
    • 7000mAh battery and typical usage time up to 5 hours

    Limitations:

    • No Dual Band WiFi Support

I want to know your opinion dlink377, I read your post you seem to be an intelligent consumer. 😀
    Kudos~

Since I have not received any reaction to my post, I decided to give more information with my situation.  It was not normal when it arrived. I had to recover the Android system. It went well but the installation of the Windows 10 was stopped in image writing and had to be repeated several times till it was finally completed. The Windows 10 was extremely unstable, often shutting down with the errors I mentioned in my previous mail and was not usable at all. I removed it by again with the process of recovering the Android. The Android is more stable than the Win 10 but still shuts down often and thus cannot be used for writing something on it. Sometime I can watch Youtube for 2 hours without shutting down. But viewing 500px photos, which is my main purpose of buying this tablet, it shut down often randomly.
My tablet is C2D4. Android 5.1.1 and has build number V1.05_20160617. I run the Android apps like Stability test, System repair, Phone doctor but they run well and do not detect any hardware faults. But often the tablet is frozen when I leave it ON for long time like one hour. I can not see any screen problem, Wifi is OK. I can not connect the tablet to PC for update mode with developer mode and usb dibugging ON but can connect it to PC for recovery. I hope you can give answers to the questions I made in my previous mail and some suggestion for the solution, as I do not have any idea what is wrong with it.

Today I found the follwing site showing the Bios info for this tablet.

Teclast X98 Plus II BIOS Settings Presentation. Download BIOS file from here!

    It looks the Bios of my X98 Plus II is older than the one I downloaded from the link in the site;

Core version: 5.011 / 05.11 (5.011) : The value in () is that of my Bios.

Compliancy: UEFI 2.4, PI 1.3 (Same)
BIOS version: tPAD 5.01 ? (On my Bios Project version: tPAD 3.05)
    Version: 2.17.1249 (same)
    Build Date and Time: 08/10/2016 15:25:28 (06/21/2016 11:11:43)
Unfortunately the site does not say its Bios is for C2D4 and does not explain the flushing procedure in detail. I believe it is worth tring to update the Bios. Can anyone say that this Bios can be used for C2D4 and show where I can find the detailed procedure using this bios data (X98 Plus II Bios.rom) and AFUWINGUI software?
Thanks for your help in advance

Chris, forgive me if this is the wrong place to post this but I wanted to reach out to the community and see if anyone is interested in a used Cube iWork11. I bought it last year but hardly ever use it. I would like to get $150 for the tablet, case, bluetooth keyboard, usb3 adapter, and stylus. Thanks!

    Craigslist Post

Cube iWork 11 Stylus with original packaging. Minor manufacturer flaw: small speck of dust under screen.
Tablet will includes stylus, USB3 adapter, Bluetooth keyboard & cover.
Installed Windows 10 Pro with updated drivers.

Great Windows tablet but I don’t use it often. Good for digital drawing or note taking. Should work well for casual gaming or Netflix.

In the past Intel Atom based mini PCs with Bay Trail and Cherry Trail SOCs required customized kernels to provide HDMI audio. As of version 4.11 the mainline kernel will include support for HDMI audio on Intel Atom SoCs and early release candidates are already available. The latest mainline kernel also includes a number of other patches including AXP288, I2C and the latest anti-freeze patches. Canonical build upstream kernels based on these release candidates and they have just released “deb” packages using the first Ubuntu version 4.11 kernel configuration file.

In anticipation that the v4.11 kernel will be included in Ubuntu 17.10 thereby removing the basic need for customized kernels, I am now providing an interim migration path that allows the latest v4.11 Ubuntu kernel build to be used with Ubuntu ISOs.

Using a script that I’ve developed you can respin an existing Ubuntu ISO so that you can boot it from a device with either a 32-bit bootloader or a 64-bit bootloader and optionally update it with the latest Canonical Ubuntu build of an upstream kernel.

To respin an existing Ubuntu ISO you will need to use a Linux machine with a working internet connection at least 10GB of free space. Having downloaded an ISO (for example ‘ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso’ simply download my script isorespin.sh and run with the ISO as a parameter (e.g. ‘./isorespin.sh ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso’). Or to respin and update the kernel include a ‘-u’ or ‘–update’ option (e.g. ‘./isorespin.sh –update ubuntu-16.04.2-desktop-amd64.iso’).

You can respin the latest available ISOs include the recently released 17.04 Beta 2 of any flavour including Ubuntu, Lubuntu, Xubuntu etc, as well as respinning earlier releases such as 16.04.2 or 14.04.5 for example.

As some wifi/bluetooth driver and userspace files are still required I’ve provided additional scripts to support RTL8723BS and various Broadcom chipsets as well as the ALSA UCM files for some audio chipsets used for headphones. The scripts can be run whilst using the ISO as a ‘LiveCD’ to provide wifi connectivity (assuming they have been previously downloaded and are accessed from USB or similar). Once an ISO has been installed the scripts can be run to install the additional functionality.

For the RTL8723BS chipset your first option is to download and run linuxium-install-rtl8723bs.sh which will build the wifi and bluetooth drivers from source and this requires a working internet connection. Alternatively you can download and run linuxium-install-rtl8723bs-binaries-for-4.11.0-rc4.sh which installs prebuilt binaries from the same source but does not require the internet. This second script only works for the current Ubuntu built upstream kernel.

For Broadcom chipsets you can download and run linuxium-install-broadcom-drivers.sh which should get wifi and bluetooth working for most of the popular Broadcom chipsets (as I don’t have the devices to do extensive testing unfortunately). If you run this script with an internet connection it will also update the Broadcom firmware with the latest upstream firmware from Google’s ChromiumOS which may help for other Broadcom based devices.

Note that in both cases the bluetooth service requires “systemd” (as used by 17.04 and 16.04) so earlier Ubuntu versions will need a manual configuration to run the service.

Finally for updating the UCM files where you have a headphone jack you will need an internet connection before downloading and running linuxium-install-UCM-files.sh which provides audio for devices with the 5640 and 5640 chipsets.

A new kernel release candidate is released each week prior to the final version and you can go to http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D to check the latest version which will be displayed first.

If you want to respin ISOs with a release candidate later than ‘rc4’ simply edit ‘isorespin.sh’ and change the first couple of lines
    MAINLINE_BRANCH=”v4.11-rc4″
    MAINLINE_KERNEL_VERSION=”4.11.0-rc4″
    to match the required version.

Finally if you find my work useful then please donate using the following link http://goo.gl/nXWSGf as everything helps with development costs.

here’s my inxi report: http://pastebin.com/fGYVg3LK feels like this isn’t enough info, is there another command i should run?

To get exhaustive info on your network/wireless setup run the following command string (the whole line) in a Terminal window…

    wget -N -t 5 -T 10 https://github.com/UbuntuForums/wireless-info/raw/master/wireless-info && chmod +x wireless-info && ./wireless-info

Then find the wireless-info.txt file it creates, paste the contents to pastebin.com and post the URL

    http://pastebin.com/EWDjGfU5

oh something strange i also noticed: the trackpad’s gestures (three finger tap to load app menu, three finger scroll down to switch apps, etc) works, just not the actual mouse part lol. do not understand why.

Try some different distro’s. I would recommend Linux Mint Mate 18.1 or Manjaro Xfce 17.0 (Manjaro is the easiest to try out because you can install it onto a USB drive and it works well and persists your data/changes).

gonna try out manjaro right now, thanks

edit: still dont have trackpad, wifi, bluetooth, or battery meter in manjaro. gonna flash mint onto a usb drive right now and give it a go.

Could you please share how you managed to boot Linux? On my unit I can not boot anything else than Windows. If I try to do I just get a black screen with a white cursor. I have tried everything already without success, even starting GRUB manually from the UEFI Shell results in the black screen. Secure Boot of course is disabled.

I created the USB using RUFUS (only in Windows 🙁 ), selecting “GPT for UEFI” . It boots without problem.

About your Wifi, It does not look like the correct WiFi driver is being used. See this post where it says “driver: rtl8192cu” but yours says “driver: rtl8xxxu”, I think this is wrong. Your wifi adapter is RTL8188CUS which uses the driver rtl8192cu. see this thread –> https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=53&t=241825&p=1291994&hilit=rtl8xxxu+RTL8188CUS#p1291994 also maybe helpful -> https://sites.google.com/site/easylinuxtipsproject/reserve-7#TOC-Realtek-RTL8188CUS-and-RTL8192CU-chipsets-0bda:8176-and-0bda:8178-
    Thank you, I’ll check that!

I achieved to get into BIOS and Apricity (live-usb) works well, everything except WiFi. Well, I didn’t checked miniHDMI because I don’t have an adapter. I used Rufus program to do a LIVE-USB with APRICITY OS (.iso). Later, I turn on my laptop and I was repeatedly press ‘ESC’. I selected my USB as first and I pressed ‘F4’ to save and exit. I don’t want to install it because I’m afraid to my laptop don’t work later. Also I don’t sure if it’s a good idea install alongside with Windows because we don’t have enough space. News about WiFi?

No, it doesn’t. I don’t have any news about WiFi 🙁
    Regards!
