Another tutorial. It’s different from the last one, so read carefully. You should also know some computer knowledge before this and not try this if you don’t know what you’re doing since this changes your bootloader and modifies your EFI partition.
What’s working: The brightness, USB, and graphics drivers.
What’s broken: Wifi, bluetooth, sleep, touchscreen, volume buttons, rotation, everything else you’d expect. It also seems to hang after a while on certain kernels.
Notes: THIS REMOVES THE ABILITY TO REBOOT INTO ANDROID FROM WITHIN WINDOWS. I HAVEN’T FOUND OUT HOW TO FIX IT. Volume buttons can be made to work since they’re detected in the kernel, but that’s beyond my knowledge.
Step 0: disable secure boot from the BIOS if you haven’t already.
Step 1: Download the ROM from this post. MAKE SURE YOU READ EVERYTHING CAREFULLY. I downloaded the latest bleeding edge iso, but they all work mostly the same, only difference I could find was that some kernels are missing support for the power button. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/x86-bliss-x86-pc-s-t3534657
Step 2: following the install instructions in the post, use the “easy install” method by using the installer tool, picking your iso, and pressing install.
Step 2b: if the installer gave an error for some reason, here’s a workaround I tried. Install 7zip (if you haven’t already) and right click the self extracting rar exe and extract to new folder. In that folder there should be an Android_UEFIInstall.exe, right click, run as admin, do the same thing as step 2.
Step 3: Download EasyUEFI (google it) and set Android-OS as the top boot option.
Step 4: Insert keyboard and mouse and reboot. You should reach the grub bootloader. Luckily this time there’s nothing special you need to do, so select android-x86 and press enter to boot.
It should take 5-10 minutes on first boot. After that you’ll see the setup screen.
Afterword: Even though GRUB supports the volume buttons for selecting boot options, you need a keyboard to start it, making this very inconvenient to use.
You can uninstall the whole thing using the easy installer, but reboot to android service will still be broken.

Looks good, doesn’t it?Hello! I got this laptop three days ago and the first thing I did was installing ArchLinux. It works really great!
Working: Touchpad, sound, webcam, function keys, card reader, sleep closing the laptop.
Not working: WiFi, Bluetooth.
Not tested: microHDMI.
I couldn’t boot Clonezilla nor Gparted. I don’t know if it’s a problem of all Debian-based distros.
I will update this when WiFi or Bluetooth works! Having a little USB WiFi dongle is my workaround.
Regards!
Well, it has a lovely screen that is even better once you notice that there is a second screen protector on it. This one doesnt have a removal tab so can be a little difficult to remove
The wifi is really bad so I need to check the bios number and flash to the latest if its not up to date
It only seems to charge when on in Android. But when I switch to windows it charges for 2 minutes and then stops – this is very puzzling and might be the lead supplied so I would like to know of a good usb c lead to buy.
Also the lead only charges one way round so I suspect that the connector in the device isn’t the best quality.
Oh and I new it didnt have GPS but it would be nice if Chuwi would consider it
And the key board is good quality but a little heavy
Cheers
I’ve got both an iPad Mini and an Android tablet, so I decided I wanted a fresh installation of Windows, and also in my own language.
Downloaded the Windows iso and made a boot USB stick using Rufus. Then I just booted while pressing F7 multiple times until the prompt for choosing start up medium came up, chose the stick and went ahead with the installation rutine. I deleted all partitions on the disk and merged them to one, and then let the installation procedure work its magic. All went well, also the activation is all right in Windows – no issues there.
Fresh windows installations always seem snappy, but the main effect this had on my Chuwi is that the shut off while in sleep mode stopped doing its thing. now its been sitting in sleep mode for three days and I’ve been using it from time to time, a little gaming, browsing and some installations of programs I use. Really happy now with my Hi12, it’s a great device for the money I’d say.
The drivers was installed on first boot from the file here on the forum under Downloads, and everything works fine. Touch screen, pen, wifi and Bluetooth. Did all this just using the metal version of the Chuwi keyboard, no problems doing that.
Just wanted to share my experience so far. not disappointed at all with the Chuwi hi12. But of course, it’s maybe not so good for the average person who is not used to flashing firmware and reinstalling OS. I’m using mine without any screen protector, I use it in the living room on a table with the keyboard as a regular PC, it’s a bit on the heavy side for lounging on the sofa but on occation I’ve also done a little Netflix on it.
Hi,
I have an Hi8 (not pro), i was experience windows update problems, and i tried almost everything to solve it. Last week i used the automatic fix and it worked. It performs a delete in the updates folder and reset it. Ok it performs some normal updates.
Since then on the next reboot, multiple devices appear greyed out in the device manager and stats to connect the device, the driver was mantained.
The devices greyed are touch, sound, sensores, battery, camera, some usb. Wifi and bluetooth works.
Any ideia how to solve this? Or i have to perform a clean install? Uninstall the updates? I searched a lot and i didn’t find any related to this.
I don’t have the android partition, but it always worked alright.
Regards
