    Hi all,

now after the latest Win 10 upgrade the tablet (K9C6) ran really well again and now the WiFi module is dead. First it seemd that the WiFi crashed somehow again, as it occures from time to time. But turning WiFi off and on didn’t help and also trying to deactivate the driver and reactivating it just showed an error message in the device manager saying something about a ‘Power failure’. Then I rebooted the tablet and since then the WiFi module is not recognized anymore at all. Shutting down, waiting, turning on again, soft reset, opening the tablet and removing the battery leads and even resoldering the WiFi module (not the chip, just the module) didn’t help. WiFi remains dead.

Do you have any suggestions? Using an USB-WiFi-Stick is rather inconvenient…

Just upgraded to the latest Pop OS 19.04 WiFi is working at 75% and everything is just so much smoother

I have a Jumper EZbook 3 Pro and I cant install pop os. When I try to boot from usb it always show me a black screen with an underscore in the middle…

Have you tried the latest Lubuntu or LinuxMint? If so which version and kernel?

Okay, it seems that the freezing in Kubuntu was caused my by USB wifi dongle used for Mac OS 🙂 I found it after my Kubuntu did not freeze after suspend when I had my Manjaro USB inserted instead of wifi dongle 🙂

    problem solved (partially)

Unfortunately there are obviusly slightly different hardware revision, the distros mentioned above (manjaro, POP 18.10) does not work with my ezbook 2 due to different hardware (mine have broadcom wifi, not realtek) This worked for me:

Amazing! I’ve tried everything you said on my EzBook 2 using Ubuntu Budgie 19.04, touchpad works, WiFi works, I’ve installed kernel v5.1. Audio worked out of the box, along with volume and brightness controls from keyboard, although it took a few minutes before working, no idea why… I had one or two times where it lagged a lot, may need to test things further to see if it does it again, note that I’m currently running on a USB drive plugged into the USB 2.0 port.

I may finally be able to use this laptop a bit, thanks! I think I’ll try installing Lubuntu onto the micro-SD in order to get maximum performances and the lightest system possible.

EDIT: Can someone please explain to me how to boot from the microSD card (if it’s even possible)? Nothing shows up in the boot manager, only the old “ubuntu” entry which lands on GRUB and shows hd0, hd1 and hd2 when running “ls”, with only hd0 showing GPT partitions (4 ones), which is probably the EMMC with Windows installed.

Have to say thank you to Benjamin. I used your drivers and the drivers from the jumper site to create a fresh fully updated recovery iso. Just installed an 120gb SSD, so testing iso on that, all good so far. Only bad news is, jumper must not have tested this tablet when connected to TV through HDMI. Sound is not working even with original drivers. So it wasnt the drivers I updated after all. I will edit recovery iso now to see if I can get touch working in boot.wim. As not every one has a keyboard. I could also do a touch screen A one too. Might help others do a fresh install. EDIT:- As Im testing. Im trying everything that caused issues in past. I have updated all drivers bar USB HUB (really Bluetooth chip) and Bosh Sensor. HDMI audio now works with latest drivers. Now with USB HUB, its mis-identified (if you allow it to be updated, it takes out Bluetooth chip and sets all devices attached to various other Bluetooth devices). This explains why a fresh install without drivers has, no wireless and any other device attached to Bluetooth chip. Apparently the BlueTooth chip is running USB3 HUB and anything attached to it. Will continue testing and tweaking until I have answers to all issues, I have experienced.

The Wifi/Bluetooth combo chip is an rtl8723bu which is connected with usb2.0 internally.

Is that why bluetooth takes out wifi while using both at same time. Was steaming XBOX while using bluetooth joypad as XBOX controller. Every time, 10 secs in wifi dies. Disable bluetooth and wifi comes back.

Hello guys. For the past week i’ve been researching to find the perfect windows tablet choice for my specific application need. However it seems there isn’t even one device that doesn’t have some type of throwback. I’m not asking for everything, but it seems it is either hit or miss, even if you take into account overpriced products. Please hear me out and let me know your thoughts.

I am essentially looking for a WINDOWS TABLET which its primary purpose is to be fitted to my car as a secondary “dash” per say so i can use it to interact with my aftermarket motorsports ecu. It will function as a monitoring dash for the most of the time, but can be used to datalog (aka record data) or for direct tuning (so i don’t have to bring my laptop everytime i need to make changes to my engine calibration). I wouldn’t mind using it at home as well since i will have it, but mostly will work as a travel/trip companion since i have a PC at home. It has to be a WINDOWS tablet as the software that interfaces with the ecu is only windows based.

After thinking and revising my requirements several times after getting disappointed by what is available here is the break down:

    •  Dimensions: Height needs to be around ~205mm +10mm max so the tablet can be secured in the glove box when not in use. Ideally height should be maximized so that the display area is maximized as well. Length larger than 300mm is not a problem but would get annoying to fit to the car since it will extend more towards the passenger side. This effectively limits me to ~11.8-13.3″ tablets, so Microsoft Surface Pro can be used as a reference design (since i haven’t seen bezel-less windows tablets yet)
    • Display: This is the most important attribute of the tablet. 1080p absolute minimum resolution, 2K ideally, 3K is probably not gonna be noticeable at the usage distance. Here is a screenshot from my 1080p laptop so you can see the ECU software in datalog mode (slightly cropped but so you can get an idea:
    • However let’s not forget brightness and contrast. Brightness should be ~400nits or better for a glossy display, and contrast should be considered over color accuracy. Viewing angle in the length span should be at least 150deg but i think it is hard nowadays to find such a bad display panel. Finally a fully laminated panel is recommended.
    • Physical interfaces: I essentially need a single full size USB port so i can connect my ECU to the tablet. After my research i decided to allow for USB-C assuming that i can get a dongle that will allow me to interface without any issues; but it’s best not to allow for that route due to possible incompatibility issues (like what happened when usb3.0 was released). Extra USB ports, USB-C that allows charging and data, video output port, headphone jack, m.2 expansion slot, sd card slot are all pluses.
    • Wireless interfaces: Min wifi and bluetooth. 802.11AC and bluetooth v4.2 or better all pluses.
    • CPU/GPU performance: Generally something better than N3450 (tested my brother’s CHUWI surbook mini) and more recent will help, GPU performance is irrelevant for the task so the majority of intergrated GPU’s will do fine.
    • RAM: 4GB absolute minimum, 8gb ideal
    • Cooling: I prefer passive cooling, but usually the cooling solution used is sh*t. At least in some cases it can be modded (i’m experienced and willing to do)
    • Battery: 4 hours light use with full display brightness as minimum. If charging is performed over USB-C i hope it is not the stupid kind of power->battery->device like in phones and can work like in laptops where the battery is not used when power is supplied to the laptop. This way you don’t wear out the battery since the device will be connected to power most of the time it is operated.
    • Storage: 64gb absolute min, ideal min should be 128gb, speed is relative but i think at least m.2 sata interface ssd; NVME huge +
    • Others: Pen support and attachable keyboard are pluses, but i plan on using a good bluetooth keyboard with backlight (required) so it makes them irrelevant if the tablet is good, Thunderbolt 3 is a +, unlocked bios +, kickstand should work on a lap without cutting your pants off and stay in one place, sd card reader +
    • Reliability: From what i read most chinese tablets are pretty bad with both hardware and software issues out of the box. Backcover should be metal to act as heatsink and be stiff enough, weight and thickness is not that important
    • Condition: New or used. I believe some products offer better value when bought used and others because have been discontinued
    • Pricing: My budget is flexible but depending on the features lots of them are overpriced especially bought new. I would say ~500eur for a new tablet with min features required and 1000eur for one with better hardware. Considering i’m building a 7nm PC in a couple of months the market pricing is really unacceptable for most windows tablets. Blame Apple for it, but i’m not a rich consumer neither i am a sheep. Performance to value is what i always look for.

    Hello Richard,

I bought a voyo vbook v3 pro, and after i few days my laptop didn’t back from hibernate mode. So i disconnected the battery fron bios. After that my computer wifi disappered. I run the ios imagen from service voyo website and also the bios update and factory settings, also from voyo service website, but nothing changed. My pc was working fine but with an additional usb wifi.

After that i bought a 128gb rom and plugged in, so guess what…my integrated wifi card came back, and also the additional rom memory, but my ram decrease from 8 to 2gb. I did the same bios factory settings, bios update software and ios imagen + drivers but still the same: only 2gb ram.

    do you have any suggestion?

    Thank you. Xavier

Well, maybe this, it is a thread that I created, but also other threads, I may help with something.

    https://olarila.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=9046

The performance is fine, I think, because our laptop has the similar specs like Macbook Retina 2017. I think the speed is the same like in Linux, for example.

About the things that does not work, I guess that wifi will never be fixed, because our Intel adapter is not supported, so we need another USB wifi dongle and TP-Link T1U is working fine for me (almost always). Maybe the touchpad and touch screen will be fixed some time, not sure yet.

It is good to know that our laptop supports also Mac OS X, the latest version Mojave with only a minor problems. So in addition to Windows, Linux, Android and Chrome OS we can also run this Apple operating system in multiboot using GRUB. I used the https://olarila.com/forum/index.php forum where I found the installer and useful tips. So far I can say that the graphics acceleration seem to work, display backlight settings, sound, battery status (partially, I am still playing with it). What does not work yet is the wifi adapter (I use TP-Link T1U nano wifi dongle), touchpad and touch screen, but I use normal wireless mouse with USB dongle and it works fine.

I have found the battery life reduction from the “stock” images seems to be related to what services are running in the background and some Google Chrome Site Isolation / Malware settings [software reporter tool] (if Chrome is installed).

When I stripped out most of the “stuff” that is not need out of the Windows 10 base image (Direct from Microsoft), stripped out all the unneeded drivers, removed / disabled all the “bloatware”, the machine ran WAY FASTER and battery life doubled.  I use NTlite to strip the Win10 image.  I have attached the files to turn off Chrome taking over the CPU, just remember to go into chrome://flags  and OPT-OUT of the SITE ISOLATION TRIAL.   Run the attachments as admin and reboot after.

I included a sample session from NTlite, but it does not have all the listings of the drivers that were removed or added.  Just a base to start from (its based on W10 PRO)

(attachments were stripped out, so putting in text)

I am using iphone so integration between ios and windows is terrible.
@furkan The itunes transfer, notes etc will work but if you want HANDOFF between the iPhone and macOS read about compatible wifi cards, you might need a laptop with an extra m2 slot or a wifi card that is replaceable.

See the previous page there is a video guide for high sierra. After you download mojave just change the path to the mojave download to create the USB boot image and update the Kexts clover folder.
    sudo /Applications/Install\ macOS\ Mojave.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia –volume /Volumes/USB –nointeraction && say Mojave Drive Created

I recommend getting a new thermal pad, arctic ones are 5$, and replace the stock one (die to heatsink, mine shipped without and was constantly hitting 100c) and adding one to connect the bottom housing and the heatsink. After doing this it can sustain 10w performance easily without going over 75-80C even after a few hours.

    @Francesco
Thank you for the recomendation. I do have some arctic pads, I will have a bettrr look at temps when I have time but at the moment I dont notice any heat above normal.

You probably know this two: https://www.insanelymac.com/ or https://www.tonymacx86.com/

how about internal wifi adapter? does it work?

No but for that I use a small wifi comfast usb adapter.
    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/Comfast-RTL8188EUS-Mini-USB-Wi-fi-adapter-2-4G-Wifi-dongle-150Mbps-802-11b-g-n/32852054964.html

You can also get an AC one or if your laptop has an extra M2 slot you can install a macbook wifi BT card with an adapter.

Intel wireless AC is not supported. Bluetooth is working no need for usb adapter!

    That doesn’t sound good,
first of all the backup of the tochscreen driver should contain four files and the SileadTouch.sys file is the most important one as it contains the device specific firmware. What kind of ghosting do you get? If the points appear at seemingly random locationd (in packs of four touch points) then it is most likely a firmware missmatch. If the toch area is scaled somehow than it is caused by some configuration with incorrect resolution.

And that .gt file is, as far as I know, for slight calibration if your screen is off by a few mm, but not if it is completely unusable with ghost touches all over the place.
The wifi issues are quiet common, it is caused by the rtl8723bu chip which has two antennas while chinese manufacturers only connect one antenna and modify their driver to use the right antenna port. If windows installs its own driver it seems to use the wrong antenna and this results in bad reception and low speed. It is internaly connected with usb.
And I would not use such tools as “driver updater” for tablets with such special device drivers as they wont have the right drivers in most cases.

What I did is installed a clean win10 image and installed the drivers over device manager afterwards.

And going back to the original driver for the usb hub should have fixed the problem, are you sure that you replaced the right driver/ that your method for replacing the driver is working (does it really use the new driver? – see version in device manager).

I have not used hdmi audio yet, so I can’t comment on that one.

are you installing windows on a fresh sata ssd or on the emmc?
