Hello, everyone. I have a Ezbook 3 pro with a slightly different battery from the template of this tutorial. A TH140A (Which instead of being retangulated is a square). I am with doubts as to the weld, because unlike the other batteries posted here in the Topic, the two parts are welded directly on the batteries as you can see in the image below. If the tutorial can be made for the model of my battery, I intend to buy the batteries to weld too, because my original battery are swollen.

I also have this same battery, my battery last less than 5 min full charged. one side of the battery looks like it’s going to explode, i removed the battery and i don’t know what should i do with it, is it safe to disassemble it?

Disconnect the battery and dispose of it in the bin, do not try and tamper with it as it will likely explode. One of the two battery cells in my EZ book had swollen the same way and i replaced the battery. The laptop will run off the power supply without a battery so you can use it that way safely and then order a replacement battery.

Thanks man did you have the same battery? if yes where did you find a new one? i have hard time to find it

I ordered the below, although they are not in stock any more.  Currently they are still working and do not appear to have swollen, but the discharge time is very inconsistent as sometimes they’ll be fine for a few hours and other they will drain after little usage (eg fully charged and then put the laptop to sleep/shutdown and there is very little power remaining when switched back on again).   At first they worked well, with long usage times, so not sure if they are failing or I didnt calibrate them properly when i first installed them.  Or maybe its something caused by the charger or a PCB component being poor quality.

I would love to have another go at installing a replacement battery, if it would mean a fully reliable laptop again, as aside from that issue i like everything else about the laptop and its still working well for me.  Its just currently the battery life can be unpredictable and so i pretty much always plug in to the mains while using.

Curious to hear how has anyone else found their laptop since replacing their batteries?

Mmm Second charge cycle, 100 to 5% in just over 2 hours idling. Disastrous. The thing is, It is hard for me to believe that the 200+grams batteries are bad. Seller seemed legit. It must be that something else is wrong. Battery bar always reported 48000 mWh, which is wrong from the beginning, which was obviously wrong. Perhaps the system is not treating the new batteries correctly. Please, advice. I must have done something wrong or something. I summon all of you battery masters, in my time of need. Paco

Could be a connection or contact discharging against metal somewhere around the battery?

The reason I ask is I replaced my faulty batteries and the new ones worked amazingly well, but recently they have been a bit less reliable. Sometimes after charging they will discharge quickly without doing anything other than the usual tasks. I have had a few runs where it’s normal again and I can use it and then power off or sleep and when I return to it even after a day or two the battery level has barely changed. However I’ve now found I can fully charge, use it and drainage is faster than usual and then when I return to it after it being powered off for a day or two, it has dropped from 80% to ~40%.

So I am going to take the back panel again to inspect and see if everything is insulated OK.

Also looking any M.2 Sata recommendations. I think Ive seen a few ppl mention Kingspec m2’s that seem to work OK. Again they’re cheap on aliexpress at about £40 for a 256GB drive, I’ll probably just add it as storage and not faff about with trying to migrate windows over to it.

Yeah it really sucks that the battery is so bad, and the whole laptop is good for traveling etc…if it had a usb-c i could charge it with my powerbank… hmmm so i should order 2 of these right? https://es.aliexpress.com/item/L552-3-7V-6000mAH-4212078-PLIB-Polymer-lithium-ion-Li-ion-battery-LG-cell-for/32531318879.html?shortkey=b6JBfMny&addresstype=600 These are the ones you have installed also?

I ordered those and fitted them at the weekend. Running great so far, still at 52% from the 1st charge and ive used an hour or two every other night (showing 6hr 18min remaining).  And also just had the Win10 April update force install.  I had set my wifi connection to metered to try to prevent any OS updates (as everything was running fine), but all seems good so far.  So you can try and get a refund but they will ask you to post the laptop back to them, so just push for a partial refund, i got $30 from Geekbuying and bought 2x batteries from aliexpress which totalled about £17 including shipping.

After 3 complete charges getting 8h with new battery. Excellent results. Thank you all for the help and advise.

Did your BatteryBar stats reset themselves ok?  I replaced my batteries and everything is working fine (switching off and on ok, no unusual drain or switching off, etc), still on the first charge since replacing.  But the elapsed time in Batterybar seems to reset each time i switch on, as it seems to take it from 81% (or whatever the level is when switched on again).

As i say, in general everything seems to be working ok, just battery bar that seems to be not picking up the right values.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled it, but that didnt seem to fix it.

Ok, replaced my batteries last night, so far so good.  Had a couple of issues with one of the wires detaching from the battery controller board contact, possibly my poor soldering skills/old solder/crappy soldering iron.  But fixed it and finally got a good join. BatteryBar readings still appear to be off (does it need reset/calibrated?), it shows the right %, but time remaining shows 1:29.  The built in battery info shows 10hr 59min remaining at 87%   I’ve attached a few photos in case they’re of interest/use to anyone.

Thanks to you guys for posting your photos/info which was a big help.

That’s what’s in there out of the box, two 4800mah cells. That’s generally the way they’re put together, rather than one big battery. The ones in the aliexpress link are 2x3300mah (come as one 6600mah unit, you buy two so you end up with 2x 6600mah cells that you connect together, then hook up to the laptop.

Can you send me a link of the battery just in case? Also do you know if I can take the battery to a local tech store and have them replace it? And as I understand, you didn’t send the laptop back but they gave you a partial refund? How? Thanks for replying anyways.

Here’s the link for the battery:

Here’s a guide euplio put together, it’s not too difficult, some minimal soldering required. I just submitted an order query and sent them a few photos of my faulty battery and a video showing a random shutdown.

@chupa so there’s no chance it’s gonna work ok? Fook me then…

Will be interesting to see if you receive a newer variant. Essentially exactly the same but with further issues ironed out. I’d say worse case scenario, the laptop will be fine except it may have the defective battery that a lot of us have fallen victim to. It may seem fine for a few months but the battery either drains fast or cuts out when a certain % is remaining.

I have just ordered a replacement battery that fellow EZ book user euplio bought and fitted, so hoping I can resolve the issue myself. I bought from geekbuying and I raised a ticket with them, they wanted me to ship the laptop back to China for repair, but I requested a partial refund of $30 which at least covered the cost of the replacement battery.

Going to get these ordered myself shortly. Seems relatively easy to install with a small amount of soldering. And will be worth it to have a fully portable EZ book again.

    @euplio
thanks for your info and guide, did you order 2 pieces from that link? They say they are 2 pieces in the link but I assume they are 3300mah x2 so one 6600mah unit. Did you have to wire the batteries up together or just each pair of batteries to the pair of wires from the circuit board?

It definitely seems to be either a bad batch of batteries, an overpowered mains charger or something else being poorly implemented. I’ve disconnected my battery and the laptop works perfectly well off the mains charger, while my battery is swollen and only holds a quarter to half ofb it’s charge, so is certainly defective.

I’m almost ready to order a replacement battery via the link n Andrews post above, I’ve contacted the supplier directly via the website and they’ve quoted $42 for battery and postage. I also emailed Geekbuying who I purchased from back in January and they offered to repair if I post the laptop back to Shenzhen, which I don’t want to do. So they’ve offered $25 refund which isnt great, so I’ve asked to increase that amount based on the cost of the replacement battery. So will see what they come back with.

What did you do? Just open a ticket with customer service? Did you provide photos/evidence?
