Not only has there been no response to my query here, there seems to be very little info on this site about the Chuwi 10X, despite it having been available since the begining of 2020. Is there a reason for this I should know about before I make a decision to purchase?

Thanks for the response. After many hours on forums and eventually on MS Support Chat it has been solved. It was a driver incompatibility with the October update (there have been others I think) which updating the obvious drivers did not cure. Eventually MS used a special app to update every driver in one go, and Touch Screen / inking are back in use.

Incidentally, when I had several people suggesting it was a hardware failure I used my ‘secret weapon’ to show it was not, by booting into Android — if Touch Screen works fine in Android on the same device hardware failure is surely very unlikely, is it not? I have done this a few times, including avoiding having to ‘scrap the machine or send it back to China (?)’ as it supposedly had an unrepairable  Hard Drive failure. In fact I have experienced almost no problems with the Cube’s hardware.

I can’t help with Macrium but this is how I entered BIOS on my Cube iWork 10.1:

To access your BIOS on a Windows 10 PC, you must follow these steps.
Navigate to settings. You can get there by clicking the gear icon on the Start menu.
    Select Update & security.
Select Recovery from the left menu.
Click Restart Now under Advanced startup. The comptuer will reboot to a special menu.
    Click Troubleshoot.
    Click Advanced options.
    Select UEFI Firmware Settings.
    Click Restart.

I have found my way into the BIOS. Now I am faced with 4 options to select. Which should I choose to boot from a USB Recrovery drive?

I thought I would report that I have used this Cube Tablet Hybrid 2 in 1 almost every day for two years. The problems I have had (a lot) have been entirely due to the Windows 10 OS, and not at all due to hardware — touch wood I hope this will continue for another couple of years. I did have a prolonged period when I was told by techs and repairers that my problems were due to the SSD (eMMC) having failed, and that no one would be able to repair it event if they could get the case open. Fortunately I was doubtful, for a variety of reasons (such as, if the SSD was kaput why was the Android OS working perfectly —  possible but unlikely?).  Any way I persisted with my non-expert trial and error fixes, and one by one over several months most of the 12 plus faults were cured. Now after a clean reinstall and updates (including Creators Fall) the machine has never been better.

Looking  to the future I am trying to prepare for almost inevitable hardware failures, even if it is only the battery. I have archived posts in this thread describing how to open the case for example. I will not give up on my Cube iwork without a struggle.

I would like to see, in this forum and others, much more attention to the specific hardware issues of  our ‘sealed machines’.

I hoped this would be so but I should have been more explicit. Those of us who have Windows Home cannot postpone the update, which any moment now will arrive and try to install itself automatically. How do we stop this, to allow a breathing space to implement alternative, such as using the Media Creation Tool and external drives. Or will the update charge ahead like a bull in a china shop?

Why is an OTG connector used? After getting a C to A USB 3 adapter I have still not got the C port to work with other devices.  I see many users have OTG so I have ordered a C to A OTG cable, but would welcome an explanation of why it is used on our Windows 10 Cube PC? I thought it was mainly intended for connecting Android tablets / phones to Windows devices such as mice, printers, flash drives.

I have what is probably a related problem, in that my half dozen Shutdown methods do not work. I usually have to run a couple or me before Shutdown, if I don’t want to use the power button (which does work). This must be a Windows nota Cube hardware problem and because I have some other issues (eg.no Store) I am going to do a repair reset so hope it will clear them up. Do you try a variety of Shutdown methods, including Sign out which works more often? In addition to the two methods accessed by the Ctrl Alt Del combination, and those in the WinX menu I have 3 different desktop shortcuts. All work slightly differently, so one may work when others do not. I can provide some detail if you want, plus a link to an article on various ways to Shutdown.

Someone else may post more straightforward advice.

I too have used Switch to Android for this and some other Windows problems.

I have now tried 4 chargers / adapters, 3 similar  including the original and one ‘alien’. Only the latter worked (with charging re-started during computer use when switched on), so many thanks for that. Also with the help of BatteryInfoView and BatteryMonitor Gadget I have discovered 2 of the ‘original’ chargers along with the blue light indicate charging is on when it in fact is not!  With BattryInfo open I could see even that reported charging on, when the current received was zero and the cumulative charge remained constant at the same %.

I now need to check the ‘alien’ for reliability, and welcome advice on getting a more satisfactory charger.

Thanks — C has nearly 24 GB at present, quite  good I understand, and I scan frequently with Norton Security and Malwarebytes (plus sometimes with others).

Thanks for that, I am glad to know others have the same multiple partitions. I have a number of gremlins which I hope will not affect the update — reports  of problems are mounting up. It will be interesting to learn how TT users get on with Creators especially as many of us have small storage devices.

As regards emptying trash I regard myself to be a ‘junk cleaning junky’ — I use several cleaning apps like CCleaner (and many others) every day, for what I believe to be very good reasons. My previous machine (Quantum View) only had 32 GB RAM (less really) and ran much of the time with 5 GB; without my constant cleaning and downloading to the SD card it looked like it would not upgrade to Windows 10 (from 8.1) nor install the November 2015 or Anniversary updates. Three MS techs on Chat failed to install Anniversary but despite my ropy tech expertise I eventually managed it myself. I now have my Cube at around 20 GB, virtually all apps / programs / files are now on external  USB / SD, and Clouds —- but anyway I have read articles claiming a good capacity empty USB flash drive or SD card will work as temporary storage during the installation to solve these problems. I should see, soon.

I will continue to look for more ways to slim down, for example although I download / move every program I can to the external drives I have noticed a number of Setup files in a drive C folder — I presume I can delete these without any drawbacks?

Bangood have replied asking if I wish to get it repaired locally and they would refund the cost. Although someone has suggested to me that this is unusual for them, I would probably opt for it but I have not yet found anyone willing to do the job. It seems that having to do some soldering is one reason — is that a dying art? Another is that they fear being lumbered with the warranty obligations (6 months left) — I had not thought of that.

Does anyone have any experience of, or comments on this situation?

Just an update / correction —- if my Cube is returned it will be to BangGood USA not to China —- marginally better? I am awaiting a reply from BangGood, and from a local business who may be able to replace the SSD, possibly providing another option.

When you say ‘deleted’ do you mean standard deletion, or a security wipe (‘destroy’, ‘bleach’, ‘make unrecoverable’.) This makes data (almost) impossible to recover by repeatedly (up to 7 or 9 times) saving data (such as zeros) to the ‘apparently’ empty space on a drive. Online there are many free tools which include this option, such as CCleaner, BleachBit, Wise Disk Care and more.

I have had the Cube with keyboard and a tempered glass screen protector for a few months. I did not get the protector directly from Cube or China but from Ebay or Amazon (dont remember which). It is near perfect in every respect, excellent fit, easyish to apply and the minor bubbles had all gone by the following day. I have had no problems with docking or closing as described by some others.  It cost around 10 GB pounds, which is more than the plastic ones which I have never been able to fit properly, not being very dexterous. I would suggest not getting one from Cube but search on Ebay / Amazon.

As regards the Cube Tablet PC I am again very satisfied, as there has been nothing major wrong with it except for the running battles with Windows Ten (Anniversary) and updates (again, nothing too bad or hard for a none tech to correct). I think this is probably luck as experiences vary widely, and time and usage may reveal more issues. I find the dual boot with the Android option worthwhile — if necessary I can switch to Android until the Windows problem has been sorted. Reviews of the Cube 10.1 Ultimate have been quite favourable.
