I think Xiaomi probably jumped the gun a bit too quickly on this release. They should have taken their time and done a full overhaul of the design. Not that I mind, as I got myself a late 2017 model at a really good price from Gearbest.
There was one error in Chris’s unboxing video – the screen seal on the 2017 version is now rubber as well (not plastic anymore), so they must have changed the 2017 and 2018 models at the same time.
The grey colour is quite subjective, I personally like the silver finish (just not on the bezels, thankfully the 2017 version is black). still dont quite get why they used a silver keyboard, but i guess theres no real way around it unless you get the 2018 version.
I dont think the extra two cores on the processor would have done much for the type of work I do so the choice for me was easy.
Would like to try the 15 inch model one day though, everyone seems to rave about it. The screen is much bigger than my liking but I would like to see whats so much better about it.
September 27, 2017 at 8:36 am #72710im surprised you actually put faith in the warranty which your device has! especially with one of those manufacturers.
September 27, 2017 at 8:28 am #72709Unfortunately, it seems that anything over 5W will not charge the laptop, can anyone confirm?
I use this one on the 5x – https://www.gearbest.com/chargers-cables/pp_624045.html
It works great and on the plus side can also rapid charge my phone with it. wait for it to go on special though. I didnt have the same issues charging as chris did though, as for the battery meter you just need to give it a few minutes to reflect the proper “time to full” when its plugged in. it seems to ramp up the voltage intake gradually. but after that its pretty quick to charge.
September 27, 2017 at 8:20 am #72706mhh… If i look at jumpers homepage I can only find the PLUS model under the English sectio, but not under the Chinese one. Looks like they only manufactured it for export? Maybe the reason they put in a cheap TN pannel. that would be a poor behaviour. I salso send them a email but no response yet.
not surprising at all. i have long suspected that alot of these chinese brands are dumping their defective production / factory seconds on the western markets. what a way to build a business, with no customer loyalty. lol. thats why the big brands like hp / dell / etc will always have the upper hand! quality and customer service go a long way in the world of computers.
September 21, 2017 at 2:46 am #72419you do know that people who post on this forum do have ordinary lives and jobs right? so we arent on call 24 7 to answer questions.
September 17, 2017 at 8:17 am #72236Gearbest finally removed the IPS reference from the product page, weeks after knowing it and possibly selling close to a hundred more.
not surprising. integrity is not high in the list of qualities of such sellers.
September 14, 2017 at 7:39 am #72113Which version did you try? I know with one notebook Chris’ would not boot using the XFCE version but it did with the latest KDE version. So they are not all the same apparently. I find the rEFInd boot manager sometimes works when the Grub boot manager fails, so you might try installing Manjaro onto a USB destination drive. Maybe try using Manjaro Architect to perform the installation if you cannot get a live-USB to bootup.
ive tried the kde one and manjaro architect. without refind it just freezes after bios with a frozen cursor. with refind it actually boots a little but then has this error called “cannot find /dev/disk-by-label/”
i read online this may be linked to usb 3 issues, they mention using the fallback loader but that also freezes in refind. so im pretty screwed since the laptop does not have a usb 2 port. really did want to use manjaro, because i like the rolling release versions they have, and the hot swap kernel tool.
am quite confused as to why ubuntu works and manjaro does not, because they would both have very similar startups (before the window manager starts)
September 14, 2017 at 12:44 am #72099Chris used Manjaro Linux in his video review/test, not the Ubuntu/Debian that Linuxium’s distros are based on. So that is why he did not have a problem or need to install Refind boot manager.
Its more complex than that unfortunately, as manjaro does not even boot on my 5x. so the different batches have different compatabilities.
September 13, 2017 at 10:11 am #72058The way the keyboard works sounds exactly like the Cube iwork 5X I sent back, its just not possible to rely on it for typing.
probably the same supplier. would not be surprised 😉
September 13, 2017 at 9:14 am #72050seems like a hardware issue, i would suggest contacting the reseller to get a partial refund and then learn to get use to double tap for right click
Mhh, i dont think it is an hardware issue. If i reverse the buttons the error also reverses. If it would be an hardware issue the error would be on the right side of the touch pad. Could be a driver issue (ezbook 3 plus not yet listet on jumpers driver page) or a generall Windows 10 problem?
why don’t you try a linux liveusb? if it works there then its definitely a software problem in windows.
September 13, 2017 at 8:20 am #72047id be pretty pissed off if i bought the plus model and it had flaws though! what a waste of money…
September 13, 2017 at 8:19 am #72046its amazing how common flaws are on these products….
That’s beacuse they are so cheap.
i think its a bit more than that. always had a suspicion that these brands are dumping their defects (factory seconds) on the international markets because of the difficulty in doing returns. its interesting when you look on sites like jd.com how you never see many comments on the defects which we find.
if only they were more honest and did proper QC then they would have much bigger international market to supply to. short sightedness i guess….

September 13, 2017 at 6:24 am #72040Sigma, for the return postage it was €50, they have agreed to pay some of it at least, who knows if it will get there!!
well do let us know if you get refunded in the end.
September 12, 2017 at 11:18 am #72001Well… Very helpful and lively forum… ‘Thanks’…
why not just reset windows from the recovery menu in the control panel? its a bit dangerous to assume that a preinstalled account has nothing malicious in it
