Okay, so I have Installed live distro of Gnome ubuntu 16.04 on a bootable usb drive, I have managed to boot into linux using nomodeset parameter on the boot config,  then I have downloaded “patch/driver” for the wifi card, there are patch for kernel but I don’t understand how apply it. Tablet is Chuwi hi 10, distro don’t have inxi.

Hello, I’am new at linux so i don’t know how to patch the files for WI-FI modules, somebody can explain how patch or how to install drivers for WI-FI card ?

It’s very easy to explain *if* the driver code is available (eg. on Github) but we need to know which WiFi device are you talking about, which is in your tablet? If you can boot Linux (Ubuntu or LinuxMint) from a Live-USB drive then I can tell you what commands to run in a Terminal window (commmand line). Which tablet do you have, Hi12?.. Are you able to boot Linux from a Live-USB? If so, run this from a terminal:

    inxi -Fxz

To get exhaustive network information run this (single line) script in the Terminal window:
    wget -N -t 5 -T 10 https://github.com/UbuntuForums/wireless-info/raw/master/wireless-info && chmod +x wireless-info && ./wireless-info
the resulting file ‘wireless-info‘ has all the details.

    hey!

anybody tried/had success in installing ubuntu 16.04 on a voyo a1 plus? i managed to get a dual boot (ubuntu on usb-stick) “working”.. BUT Wifi is not working (broadcom..) and no battery status is shown..

What does your ‘dmesg’ output look like? Does it have anything like below? Maybe grep your dmesg output for the string “brcm”. Run this right after starting up…
    dmesg | grep -i brcm

Is not possible also to boot from usb – that means, no linux flavor could be installed.

    Definitely  not true.
I received my 5S today, and booted the Linux Mint 18 from usb without any trouble at my very first attempt.

I do confirm, no touch, sound or wifi. Haven’t tried second monitor but I doubt it will work also due to lack of drivers .

I’ve created a topic where I will be posting and updating my attempt to put a Linux on this machine.

Yea it’s average but it gets the job done. In my opinion, teclast stopped to produce it because they encounter too many defects and they simply go for this one. Quite desapointing, but it would be fine to me if only i could use DC charging and OTG, becausei am kind of obligated to use a usb wifi dongle since the wifi signal is extremely poor on top of the fact that my walls are super thick.

    Hello,

I’ve installed 64-bit Linux Mint 18 (Cinnamon edition). Everything works out of the box, including WiFi, Bluetooth, keyboard, touchscreen and touchpad (multi-finger gestures), and stylus. Suspend to RAM works also flawlessly. I’ve even tested HDMI output through USB-C. Rotation of the display and pointing devices can be configured using xinput and xrotate. The only exceptions to my complete satisfaction are the two cameras. They are identified as Omnivision OV5648 and OV2680, both connected to the I2C bus. Intel provides the Windows drivers. They are not yet supported by the kernel, although some of the older models from these series are.

    Hello all,

I will use this topic to share with you my experience and overall process of putting a Linux Distro on this table.
I’ve received the tablet today, and managed to usb boot the live version of Mint 18 with kernel 4.4 without any trouble (in boot process).

I will then attach screenshot / video of the boot process to keep everything documented.

    What don’t work:

    • Touchscreen (working, please see #post-52678)
    • Sound (just a dummy output device is detected)
    • wifi

The next step will be resizing the eMMC to get a 10Gb partition so I can install it with dual boot option, and then start by updating the kernel to version 4.7.5.

Only after that I will start with trial / error process of compiling drivers etc by the following order:

    • wifi
    • sound
    • touchscreen (working, please see #post-52678)

EDIT: Before I will give a try to kernel 4.8 to see if there are any changes in our favor. For that I will boot with the nightly of Ubuntu 16.10.

    Hi,

    does this solution work?
Anyone know if it’s possible to USB Boot a Linux distro? (I know that might be problems such wifi, touch and sound.)

I’m thinking of buying this device (although I’m still divided between this and the Chuwi hi10)

After spending some time with the tablet I am seriously disappointed.

    1) The left speaker is really buzzing, especially if the volume is anywhere over 30% and when viewing video it usually has to be much higher

    2) The USB 3.0 port on my tablet does not actually support full usb 3.0 speeds….it has a limit close to 35-37mb/s max
I tested an external HDD on both the USB 3.0 port and the USB-C port and the results are
    – USB 3.0 Port: approximately 37mb/s
    – USB-C Port: almost doubles to 67mb/s
    This is disappointing.

    3)  The Samsung 32GB MicroSD card that I had tested and found to be working on the previous i9 units I received, no longer works on this one
…it has the 5.11 bios, by the way…

    4) 4K read speeds of the SSD are between 9-11mb/s, while on the previous units it was 20-35mb/s

    5) Wifi is significantly weaker….will be 2-4mb/s slower nine out ten times I test it and its not as steady either….this again in comparison to the previous units too.

The Cube i9 seems to have lots of quality issues, i.e. divergences per unit
    – screen defects
    – speaker issues
    – lower wifi speeds / lower signal
    – USB 3.0 port speed
    – MicroSD issues

I am quite discouraged from trying out Cube again…don’t know what’s up with Cube or with the i9 tablet production, but I won’t be choosing them for my next tablet.

I don’t want to sell it and let somebody else carry the burden, and I have already paid ~20€ to send the tablet back to China the last time (the first time the cost was covered by Paypal Refunded Returns)…

If I spend another 15-20€ for the shipping, will I be receiving a proper functioning tablet then? I am not at all confident

This is strike 3 out of 3…
    – First had screen defects
    – Second was heavily used and worn
    – Third is having speaker / USB 3.0 port / MicroSD / Wifi issues

Can’t really put my frustration into words…I spent a full year’s points on this tablet too…

My Voyo A1 plus 4g wifi crashed. would no boot. Install win 10 1607 os build 14393.187. installed several drivers from this site and more. some turn the device on others do not. installed usb adapter and did updates and scans. removed all cisco software . what is the next step. sorry for the repost.

If you see your wireless adapter but no networks on the new install and everything works fine on old one, then I would suggest trying the wireless drivers from the working install, majorgeeks.com has a free copy of double driver that can backup and restore drivers.

    Hey guys,

I’ve also been having the same problem with freezing since the tablet arrived. I’ve noticed a few things with the freezing: it tends to freeze when connected to my computer, via USB, and transferring files to it. It also has a tendency to freeze when Wifi is turned on. I’ve turned off Wifi, and have been using an SD card to get files onto the thing, and I’ve been pretty much entirely freeze free (on Remix OS). So, give that a shot.

That said, turning off Wifi is a terrible solution that basically turns it into a shoddy e-reader that can play videos. Hopefully this is something Chuwi can fix, since I can’t send it back to GB unless I want to pay out the nose for shipping (past the DOA time limit).

Hello, greetings everyone, I am new hear!

Since I got my chuwi hi12, appart from another common issues, I’ve been expiriencing one that anyone has reported yet.

When connecting any pen or hard drive to usb 2.0 port it happens that I don’t get any notification nor message down-right task bar. As if it was not connected. But when you go to computer you can see it and open it, and fully functional. When you want to disconnect safe you can do it but only using right click and extract.

This doesn’t happen with 3.0 port, when connecting a down-right window appears notificating the precense of a new drive, and you can disconnect safe easily through task bar.

As to bluetooth, I tried to connect a bluetooth headset. In windows  sound is horrible, in android works perfect.  When using a bluetooth genius mouse it pairs quite well, and seems to work quite well, but I experience sometimes a kind of a lag as if the pointer stops for a while and then moves again, wheel the same or any movement. It is as if it got satcked for a while every 10 secs more or less. Impossible to test mouse in android because when pairing it asks me for a PIN, so no way, but this seems to be a  matter of android and some bluetooth mice. So all this indicates that bluetooth RTL8723BS chipset is not working properly in windows 10. At least wifi is getting stable.

Does anyone experience the same? Any explanation? Any solution? I have not find any.
