I know this is an older thread but here is the actual official cube site:
April 22, 2016 at 2:13 pm #34664I had this problem when i installed my 512 gGB SSD into my X2 Pro.
I had placed a thermal pad between the SSD and the tablet which was pushing on the SSD slightly and causing it to lose connection to pins in the slot at times.
I removed the thermal pad and used Kapton Tape instead so the SSD was flat against the tablet and I’ve had no problems since.
Ensure nothing is causing your SSD to short or the pins to not fully connect.
November 6, 2015 at 2:52 pm #15148I actually didn’t realize Geek Buying had warehouse options lol. I always get items shipped from China.
I select DHL for 5 day shipping and everything usually arrives within 8 business days. However, I used the slow free option once and it only took 2 weeks from ordering to arrive.
What I usually do is look for a coupon for 5% off or something from promo pro for Geek Buying. Then, with the coupon applied, the DHL shipping is usually covered so it almost makes it like free 5 day shipping.
November 6, 2015 at 2:36 pm #15146Hey,
That might help but I think you would still see some pretty high temps…
I did a thermal mod of my own that was much more involved and was a much bigger PITA than Chris’s version.
What did I get for my efforts? A 2 C degree drop on the max temp for a core, bringing it to 66 c lol. However, the other cores maxed out at 61 C, 58 C , and 58 C!
I think Chris’s method is probably best because it’s pretty easy and gets great results.
Just know that with however you’re going to go about it that there is limited space to play with. If you remove the aluminum shield you could possibly get between 2.1 mm to a little over 3 mm if your shims are light, so they don’t weigh down on the screen.
I have a 20 x 20 x 1 mm copper shim on the core and a 76 x 50 x 1.2 mm copper plate attached to the back case with thermal adhesive. There’s also arctic silver 5 between the CPU and 1 mm shim and between the 1 mm shim and the 1.2 mm copper plate.
The back of my tablet gets really hot bench marking in both Prime95 and 3DMark11 but the temps are awesome and the tablet can run long term stable benchmarks.
I also recently found and ordered one of these:
http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/UF3A3-500/259-1519-ND/2417175
It’s a 10 x 10 x 3 mm fan and it puts out a good amount of air. The site claims it’s 29 db but the fan is actually really quiet. I don’t believe it’s above 15 db.
Also, if you’re brave, i tested it and it runs off the battery terminals of the tablet. So you could solder it to the positive and negative battery leads and you have an actively cooled tablet. This also means you would need to make some small drill holes in the back of the tablet casing 😉 …
November 6, 2015 at 2:15 pm #15142Chris,
I noticed your site doesn’t use HTTPS only HTTP and you are using wordpress…
Basically if you accessed your account here on any public wifi then someone could have easily sniffed your traffic. If your password is the same here for your email or GearBest then there’s your answer.
I know paying for SSL certificates suck and they can be a PITA to setup sometimes but they are necessary.
My password for this site is one I don’t use anywhere else, especially considering logging in is not secure here.
Also,
If you’re using a default wordpress setup and your provider is an idiot, or doesn’t know what they are doing, then your MySQL DB is probably easily accessible using the default MySQL DB login.
November 6, 2015 at 2:07 pm #15140Hi Clive,
I had some issues with the drivers for the Chuwi Hi8 also. My main issue was for the touch screen though. No matter how many times, or different ways, i reinstalled them the touchscreen was always off.
I had to reinstall using the Chuwi Hi8 Windows 8.1 package and follow the translated Chinese installation Guide. You need two thumb drives and a keyboard hooked up to an OTG cable for the process though.
After that I upgraded to Windows 10 and all worked again.
The Guide and the original Windows 8.1 image are provided on this site by Chris 🙂 :

As for the OTG cable I use this one:

It charges and allows OTG functionality at the same time for me. I believe you need to use position 2 for it.
November 6, 2015 at 1:57 pm #15139Hey Marvin,
I use Geek Buying and they always come through for me. I’ve ordered around 4 phones and 3 tablets from them.
I recently purchased a Teclast x98 Pro from them and used DHL. It arrived in 5 days to New York!
I tried Gear Best, since they had a great promotion for it, but they never shipped it and kept lying about stock and the ship date. I had to file a pay pal case with them.
October 17, 2015 at 1:47 am #13399I’ve done better before but this cost $0.00 and very little time lol.
I’m thinking of doing a battery mod because I have 2 extra 3.8v batteries with the same mah laying around.
I would just need to figure out how to fit them in 😉
October 16, 2015 at 2:12 am #13333The atom Z3735f’s architecture is x86 actually…
October 16, 2015 at 1:47 am #13331So my Hi8 has a crack in the corner and the battery is dying fast now. Naturally i decided it was time to mod it 😉
I also happened to have a broken 2009 mac mini lying around so I decided to take the speaker and put it into my Hi8
The resulting sound is awesome! The speaker is just a little big so I had to mod my case and let the speaker sit on the back of the tablet. I don’t mind it but the tablet is no longer flat 😉 .
I made a speaker cover out of a deodorant cap, some wire mesh, and spray paint. It came out pretty decent so i decided to share some pics 🙂 .

The atom x5 uses a newer gen of the intel mobile graphics chip. It’s at least double the performance. The base frequency is just the lowest setting it’s capable of running at without causing graphical issues in the running OS, mainly windows.
You wouldn’t notice it in simple things like browsing the web or watching 1080p res or less video. However, you would notice it in more power hungry games.
October 13, 2015 at 6:01 pm #13189Well I replaced the speaker in my Hi8 but it required a “case mod”.
I had already cracked the corner of my screen and the battery is draining way to fast so I decided to hack it.
I replaced the original speaker with a speaker from a 2009 mac mini, had a broken one lying around.
It made a huge difference! The sound quality is much better and the speaker is much louder. I of course now have most of a speaker popping out the back of my case but I’m fine with it. I just need a way to make it look nice and to protect the speaker.
I’ll try to get some pictures of it up later when I get home 😉 .
October 7, 2015 at 6:32 pm #12812I just received a response from GearBest about my refund request. I requested it on paypal and they responded on their own system… not shady at all…
Thanks for your message to us.
We’re so sorry for the delay reply, due to the holiday.
We’re sorry for this inconvenience.
Would you please close the case first, so that we can ask our finance department refund you soon.
Please rest assured we will do our best to help you.
If you have any question, please feel free to contact us.
Thanks for your time and attention.
Have a nice day!
I basically responded saying NO that I won’t close the case and if they don’t reply on paypal then I’m escalating it. That was yesterday and I haven’t received a reply or an update on my paypal request…
I will never use GearBest again…
October 4, 2015 at 4:56 am #12537I put in for a refund from gearbest through PayPal and the response that I got was that they were getting them “soon”. So would I like to wait or get a refund…
Considering I already said refund you would think the answer was obvious. Well I responded and said refund, again, and haven’t heard back.
I guess I’ll see if they respond after the holiday…
October 3, 2015 at 3:53 am #12474In terms of an external 12v battery I have the Anker Pro 2 20000 mah and its awesome.

The max output for 12v is 1.5A though…
