    Thanks Destry!

    That is very encouraging!

Thanks for the link to the USB WiFi device.

FYI: Many of the links along the right side bring up a 404 error.

I could not see details of the wired WiFi with the large antenna.

EDIT: You did inspire me to look around & though I didn’t find the wired EDUP I did find this interesting device:

    https://www.amazon.com/Netis-WF2561-Wireless-Supports-Antennas/dp/B00T2TXJFI

It, or something like it, would be good to have even when the internal Chuwi WiFi nic is working 100% – I often run into weak connections in hotels & elsewhere.

Here is my big unit: http://www.edupdriver.com/edup-ep-ms1552-300mbps-wireless-network-card-with-double-antenna-and-wi-fi-adapter-usb-lan-adapter/

My son & I are looking real hard at the Chuwi 12″ multi-OS tablet.

Do I correctly discern from this thread & those linked that the internal WiFi is not working in Linux, yet?

Would an external USB WiFi (with a Linux-friendly chipset) be a good temporary kludge?

I prefer Puppy Linux but Linux Mint or another Linux would be fine – booted from USB makes sense.

I can save portable data to a micro-SD.

Thanks for all you all share here!

    David~
I suggest you read through this thread before you decide to alter that Hi12 you want to get. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=58&t=223426
I rushed testing Mint on my Hi12 and now wish I would have spent more time researching the point of replacing the Win10 installation instead of wiping the whole solid state drive. I do like Android and having that option to use it. I purchased a second Hi12 to keep it stock for now until all bugs are worked out of using Linux on it.
I posted the procedure to get wifi working on Chuwi tablets with LM in this post http://techtablets.com/forum/topic/linux-on-atom-based-devices/page/11/#post-42603
Doesn’t work perfectly, but it does work. I am sure the drivers will be perfected soon.

Wifi does work but not out-of-the-box… not from a fresh install. You have to patch some things as @destry showed in his posts above – see here.

Ask @destry maybe he can recommend a USB wifi NIC.

    Linux Friendly Wifi Adapter
I Have this wifi usb adapter and a big EDUP dual antenna stand alone usb cord unit. and both are plug and play with Linux. No drivers to mess with. Everything from EDUP is Linux friendly plug and play.

Also purchased this unit for the sound as it looks like the drivers for the sound may be a little ways out. It is plug and play also.

So I received it this afternoon … The device is impressive in terms of performance. Here are the issues that I see actually : As stated bu somebody else, the palm rejection does not seem to work. At least it’s really unreliable. I hope that it ‘s just a software issue The wifi seems not that reliable : the speed seems to fluctuate a lot. I can feel that the insulation is not that good : the keyboard give little electric shock while the device is plugged to the AC through the USB-C port. It may be why the wifi fluctuate. The device does not seem to be able to operate the HDMI port of my Aukey USB-C hub. I may have to find another Type-C to HDMI adapter … I will try to find solutions to all those little issues.

From my talk with So Cube on aliexpress, I think USB-C is not implemented that well for charging, so that might be why you get electric shock via keyboard. Basically all I could understand is that it’s not a good idea to charge via USB-C.

SS of the relevant bit of conversation is in the attachements.

P.S. According to the photos of said keyboard < and >  are there. And well.. they cant really remove them, since comma and stop is there.

Edit: In case you’ll wonder what’s the talk about printing letters, I was really trying to get a straight answer if they can actually engrave them straight… Could not do it. So decided to do it later when it comes, plus I found a relatively cheap place that does that in color to boot.

    Hi guys,

I was watching the Netgear A6100 usb wifi dongle and wondered if it would work on Android? I am pretty sure it will work on Windows10.

Anyone experiences with wifi dongles? I have speedy ac router and would be happy to use its power.

    Thanks!

@destry over on the Linux Mint forum says he’s got his Chuwi Hi12 booting on USB with WiFi working.
I think he’s booting with the latest distro; Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 (which has the 4.4 Kernel). Have a look…

[Edit] Also, be sure to check his TT Linux on Chuwi Hi10 thread here, and his other thread on the LM forum.

That is correct! I am using the latest distro LM 18 with the 4.4 kernel. However to get the wifi working, I had to do a little work on it that I found right here in this forum thread.. I don’t remember the location of the posts that helped, but here is what I did.

    sudo apt-get -y install git

    cd
    git clone https://github.com/hadess/rtl8723bs.git
    cd rtl8723bs
    make
    sudo make install
    sudo reboot

Booted into Bios/ South Bridge/ LPSS & SCC CONFIGURATION/ SCC SDIO Support = changed acpi to PCI then saved and exit. After reboot, wifi working! Connected and online!

inxi -Fxz still shows card not found even though the wifi is working…

I changed the screen resolution to 1600 x 1024 as the 2160 x 1440 makes everything too small to read on the 12 inch screen.

Update : after leaving the sd card out for several days, I put it in after having it plugged in via usb with the wifi off and it mounted my 128gb and 64gb cards with no issues for about an hour :/ so I don’t think it’s hardware related,  something software with the sdio card is acting up is my guess.

Today I installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 18 full release on the HI12 Dual Boot with no installation issues. Did a complete disk wipe and install. Got wifi working. Still working on sound and touch screen. Resolution: 2160×1440 @ 59.95hz What was strange was 2 weeks ago when I used live usb of Cinnamon 18 beta, touch screen worked. That was before I wiped the drive though..

    Congrats!!! 🙂

I’ll update the first posting with the information you provided!

No mention of Remix on the Gearbest Chuwi HiBook page he linked to on the Youtube vid page.

Looks like he/they installed it. He links to this page with install directions. You’ll have to use Google Translate.   I wonder it he did this himself or with help from guys over on xda-developers?

here it is in translated form…

    <b>Based on the assembly B2016050501 for Teclast_X16Plus.
    Changes:</b>

    • Slightly optimized. Losing drain a few hundred balls in Antutu subjectively much smoother.
    • Traditionally, RemixOS, very sparingly consumed battery.
    • It raised the sound level (even too, is looking for a limit). <b>Take care of your speakers and headphones in his ears.</b>
    • Supports startup scripts <b>the init.d</b> (modified bottles)
    • <b>The ROOT, SuperSu, busybox</b> “out of the box”.
    • Implanted support USB-GPS device. (Default setting for Ublox7 VK-172)
    • <b>Main feature</b> – I specifically wrote some scripts, demons and placed in the binary firmware required for Android can mount the flash, microSD, USB-drives <b>(drives, even with multi-partition)</b> file systems: <b>the FAT16, the FAT32, the exFAT, the NTFS , EXT4</b>

    . <b>Installation:</b>

    <b></b>

    • <b>Before installation, be sure to update UEFI-BIOS to the latest version, or WiFi will not work.</b> https://yadi.sk/d/8-TAJbg3sBE9e
    • Format the USB flash drive in FAT32, necessarily assigning a flash drive for a name when formatting; copy the contents of the root of the stick to update the BIOS file; download aid with the stick; wait until the end of the BIOS firmware; reboot the machine.
    • In TWRP <b>MANDATORY</b> To make the simple reset date (Just enter the item rekaveri “Cleaning” and drag the slider to the right.).
    • Install ZIP from firmware.
    • Reload this tablet to the system. First start may take up to 10 minutes. Will not be bored, there is a beautiful butanimatsiya:)

<b>Attention! No special wipes are somehow forced wipe system, data, cache else to do! The script installer will do everything himself!</b>

<b>Specifics:</b> Firmware natively supports <b>USB-GPS Ublox7 VK-172</b> (at me such, so the way, the whistle himself to buy not recommend – not a fountain..) If you have some other, get in /system/etc/init.d script 00-mount, and the first lines set the physical port and the speed according to their GPS device. No more additional settings need not be (assuming that my kernel contains support for your GPS serial bridge, if not, you’re out of luck.). Hot Plug, alas, is not supported. GPS receiver must be connected before the Android download – that’s a feature GPS support library, and this, without any changes and then recompile libraries can not do anything.
The firmware has an application to create an extended off menu on the button “Power”, let him . Override system power menu
also in the firmware, you will find two applications, one designed to calibrate your touch, and the second is designed to increase the responsiveness and sensitivity of the stitch.
first, <b>TouchRecalibrate</b> – run, click OK, put the plate on the table and click Recalibration, do not touch the touch up the process is finished. After that, the application can be removed.
Second, <b>TouchScreenBooster</b> – launch the app, select Presets from Super Optimized, click Apply changes …, check the box on the Start service on boot. I do not know, maybe it’s a placebo affect, but it kind of works. <b>Tests and unsubscribe, do not forget to show gratitude. </b><b>You are welcome! </b><b>It is very difficult to do anything without feedback.</b><span class=”edit”> Message edited </span><span class=”edit”><b>kostyamat</b></span><span class=”edit”> – 02/06/2016, 14:30</span>

    Hello,

Tried with a Western Digital 500Gb USB 2.0 on the USB 3.0 port and also on type C with an adapter and no problems with the Wifi…

It seems to be some sort of interference only when using USB 3.0 hard drive.

    Anyone else has this issue?
