READ THIS: Make very SURE you have the correct BIOS for your device. Flashing the wrong BIOS WILL BRICK your device and make it unbootable.
CHECK AGAIN1. Get an empty USB thumb drive.
2. Format USB drive FAT32, name it WINPE
3. Extract all files and then Copy all the files from the BIOS .rar onto the USB drive. Your USB drive should look like the picture below all files at the root directory. If your BIOS is already set to boot USB thumb drive as 1st prioroty, then the deivce will go directly to step 5 automatically
4. Boot into BIOS boot manager using F7 key
5. Select and Boot the USB thumb drive
6. New BIOS will be flashed
7. Remove the USB drive once BIOS flash is complete. If you leave it in, then BIOS will be flashed again on boot.New bios for dual OS Chuwi Hi 12 (pass: en.chuwi.com)
May 20, 2016 at 11:02 pm #38071Yes, Chris G, it seems that nothing has not changed on the screen of the new BIOS except for the build date and time as kuko61 shows but it works fine at least for the abrupt and random shut off. I have tested and seen all the behaviours throughout my Hi12 Dual OS started at over 70% battery level to safely shut down to hibernate at 2%. Infamous abrupt shut down did not happen. It has been the first time for me since my first day of using it without the abrupt and random shut down in low battery. In addition, I set the RAM speed at 1600 MHz.
The unit continued to run without any problems and shifted to the battery saving mode at the battery level 21% and the pop-up window appeared to show low battery level at 6%. The pop-up window appeared again at 4% to give me a warning that the unit needs the power supply to be connected immediately. And at the same time a small red mark in the battery icon in the task bar appeared and started to blink until it stopped blinking at 3%. At the battery level decreased to 2%, the unit automatically and safely performed the shut down process to power itself off.
Thanks Emily and Chuwi for this solution though we should take it for granted.
I would like to put some memos for all the owners of Hi12 Dual OS who are going to flash theirs with this new BIOS.
- Download the new BIOS file named “Lateset Dualboot Hi12 BIOS(remain KEY, solve wifi disconnet issue).rar.”
- Unrar it into a folder you like.
- Connect a USB stick drive to the USB 2.0 port of your Chuwi Hi12 Dual OS.
- Format the USB stick drive with FAT32. It may not be necessary but I named the USB stick drive as “winpe” just in case. I think the “create bootable” option is of no concern. I formatted it with the built-in format function of Windows10.
- Copy all the contents inside the unrared folder to the root of the USB stick drive. Please be careful not to copy the unrared folder itself.
- Reboot your HI12 Dual OS. Press F7 key several times when you see “CHUWI” something on the screen.
- Select to boot with your USB stick drive. Flashing starts automatically and you can see variety of messages passing away on the screen which include erasing, writing and verifying the data.
- In my unit, the flashing finished when the screen showed a command prompt as if it wait for some commands to be typed in since I waited for a minute if something happens. It seemed that nothing would not happen. Therefore, I typed in “exit” into the command line and the unit reboot to Windows10 after showing the logo “CHUWI” a few times on the screen as I set my Hi12 Dual OS not to show OS select screen and directly boot into the OS used last time.
I cannot certify you the result but it worked perfect as far as I was concerned.
May 20, 2016 at 9:10 pm #38060I don’t have any issue when using the hi12 in windows just browsing internet on Edge. I can’t get to 5% without issue.
Are your hi12s shuting down only when watching videos or playing ?
The only problem that I have is that I need to restart the wifi connection manually when using my wifi usb dongle when I resume windows. It seems that the “latest” FW fixes a wifi issue, is it this one? Not willing to try to flash a FW and brick my hi12 if it doesn’t fix that.

Netflix is useable with the internal wifi. I watch netflix (HD) with a pair of mpow swifts.
I also have the same USB AC dongle – speeds do improve.

Good Afternoon James! Wifi is a bit of a fickle beast especially when attempting to compare devices and even more so when attempting to compare different devices behaving in different environments! My tablet routinely averages around 35-45 megabits per second in my home and in my office running over Wireless 2.4ghz N. I personally still prefer 5ghz AC (at least when booted into windows) so I use a small USB dongle that cost me around $10 and it barely protrudes from the unit or adds any weight, so just something to consider! Things that MAY be effecting your speed though.
Are you utilizing bluetooth devices at the same time (keyboards, headphones, mouse, etc. Anything bluetooth connected to the device). The Hi12 like many budget machines has shared radio resources for BT andWifi. So basically having accessories hooked up via BlueTooth is going to be detrimental to your WiFi (and vice versa). If you AREN’T using bluetooth you might try turning bluetooth off and seeing if that has any impact on your WiFi performance!
Every unit is different but it sounds like you are seeing sub-par performance in more then one environment so it sounds like it is the device rather then external limitations. Outside of my concern about bluetooth devices it may just be that your device has poor shielding or other quality control type issues that could ave resulted in reduced wi-fi performance but again, easily rectifiable (at least in windows) with a cheap wifi dongle.

I’m actually using a CLS micro bluetooth usb adapter, which was laying around, and works fine but of course I had to disable the onboard bluetooth chip. If you have AC wireless at home I recommend you to buy a usb wifi AC adapter. BUT you want to buy something as small as possible since if the tablet falls down on the side of usb port and you have a stick 20cm long on there, I don’t think the usb port will be happy
thanks. obviously you can do that only on Windows and not on android?
Hi, I got this Wifi USB key from Aliexpress. Not using bluetooth on a daily basis, but the slow wifi is a pain sometimes. With this one I can get 100/100mpbs , much better than the 30-40mpbs I get with the internal wifi. Works fine with Win10 (you need to install the drivers, otherwise it only works with 2.4ghz). It doesn’t work on Android by default, I haven’t looked into that, seems like you may need to compile drivers, I have no experience in this. http://www.aliexpress.com/item/New-Dual-USB-600Mbps-Wireless-Wi-Fi-2-4G-5GHz-Dual-Band-AC-Wifi-Antenna-802/32562012848.html?ws_ab_test=searchweb201556_8,searchweb201602_1_10037_10017_10021_507_10022_10032_10009_10020_10008_10018_10019_101,searchweb201603_9&btsid=e8f229c1-6233-4c47-91b2-cfba8b47ab89
seems a nice device.. as small as a cheap bt adapter…
but without any adapter, i netflix with a BT earphone usable or not?

May 17, 2016 at 6:34 am #37642I have the second unit same issue. The ports on the keyboard will not power my Toshiba 2.5″ HDD. But it seems the USB type-C with an adaptor will, but only USB 2 mode (white light) My guess is the type-c also runs at USB 2 speeds like the Hi8 Pro and Vi8 Plus. @nbat58 Yes, Wifi signal is poor and weaker than my iwork10 Ultimate. The ultimate has its aerial behind plastic for good signal strength, but the Chuwi uses metal all around. That and the better screen (less air gap) and active pen support, I can already see the Cube iwork10 Ultimate is the better machine, despite the speaker placement and slower charging. 5volt 2.5A on the Cube. 5v 3A on the Chuwi via type-c.
Ah bummer, the Hibook is a lot cheaper (188 dollars with keyboard vs 217 dollars with keyboard) but oh well, good to know. Means I’ll focus on getting the Cube
Hi Chris since both are at the same price on gearbest for next 7 hours http://www.gearbest.com/tablet-pcs/pp_325534.html i need to choose one of them! Could you please tell which is better cube flagship or this chuwi hibook and why? What about speakers on both for watching films? Thank you if you can answer me before the deals ends
You’re in luck! It’s still on sale for the exact same price for the next few days
I had bad experience with the cube iwork8 ultimate so I bought the hibook mainly cuz Chris said speakers are better hope I did the best choice and that the wi fi signal will not be that low to convert in a problem..

May 15, 2016 at 2:25 pm #37416In reply to: Mixing the sd card with windows and android
The problem is that I didn’t want to tie up a USB port all the time. It’s a little bulky(even the nano sticks out some), and if I have to use a usb wifi dongle due to sharing the antenna I wouldn’t have anything left. The USB 3 will be much faster, but I will sacrifice a few seconds loading to keep the functionality. I am thinking I will partition the SD card and give Android an extra 20GB or so to install games and vudu movies. I don’t like the windows vudu app. Horrible. Keeps messing up and losing my downloaded movies on the netbooks I have.
May 14, 2016 at 11:22 pm #37347Thansk for the update Chris, it is a shame that the keybord USB’s don’t work with an external hard drive and the USB 3.1 only works as USB 2 type mode, do you think it would be a straight forward process to get the Chuwi Hibook returned to GearBest for exchange?
I am wondering whether this is the reason I havn’t recieved the keyboard, GearBest are telling me they’re on back order, maybe they’re trying to fix the USB issues?
I am thinking to maybe get the Teclast X98 plus 3g instead, hopefully the wifi capability will be better, I don’t game otherwise I would be considering the X98 pro, however I am put off by the heating issues with this model.

I was just reading the Cube iwork10 Ultimate product page questions and one customer asked if the USB ports could power a 2.5″ drive. Cube answered no. See below, copied from their page:
