I have the same issue for some reason – I can fix it temporarily by disabling and then enabling the SD card reader in device manager. I haven’t had reason to look very hard for a fix though

That’s weird – doesn’t the Cube use exactly the same display and digitizer as the Surface Pro 2? Can’t imagine that one has any unsigned driver issues.

That’s interesting. Intel’s page for the 6y30 mentions eDP, DP, HDMI and DVI output formats, nothing about thunderbolt. Isn’t thunderbolt itself just a carrier for a DP signal?

I found this info about replacing the digitizer: http://techtablets.com/forum/topic/help-cube-i7-stylus/

So the display isn’t laminated, that’s cool. You should try to tear down the tablet and separate the touch screen from the LCD – if you succeed in that, and if it’s simple enough to do, you could buy the digitizer panel for cheap and replace it. If you screw up or if the LCD is broken, you could get the full assembly from me.

I’m in Sweden, Europe. Looks like postage would be about $25, I’d probably want about $65-70 including shipping to send it (since I have use for it as a spare part for my i7 book) – let me know what you think sounds reasonable. I could throw in a stylus as well if you don’t have one already, since I have one left from my old tablet.

I will take a couple pictures of the display so you can compare it and make absolutely certain it’s the same connectors and stuff.

Where do you live? I have the screen from my old, broken i7 stylus lying around here somewhere.

I’m pretty sure the key is stored in UEFI, a fresh Windows install shouldn’t be a problem

    • To Sum Up: if you do not want the edge swipe gestures to be activated, you have to render the windows keystroke or windows shortcuts totally useless.

Correct me if I am wrong, but this is my understanding and limited testing of the situation. Without proper driver, we will not be able to change the way the Touchpad works. I will continue being on the lookout for a solution.

Using AutoHotkey, you could probably configure it so that Win+D, for example, only gets recognizes when there’s some minor delay between pressing the keys – that way you could disable the touchpad gesture while keeping keyboard functionality. I don’t use the hotkey myself so I can’t be bothered to figure out how to do it.

If you have a fitting plug, you can patch it on a generic 12V adapter to make a makeshift adapter. If you do so, make very sure you get the polarity right.

So, a couple of things to bear in mind: first, any store you purchase from is highly unlikely to have done any product testing before they ship the items, so you won’t have any worse/better luck with hardware issues depending on which store you choose.

Aliexpress isn’t a seller – it’s more of a marketplace like Amazon, they only handle orders and payment, not the actual products/support/shipping etc. If you order from there, be sure to check the seller’s reviews – I wouldn’t buy something like a laptop from any seller with less than about 95% positive or so. I bought my i7 book from SoCube, and they shipped it quick and without problems. I haven’t had any reason to test their support, luckily.

Banggood, by contrast, is a seller, and one of the more reputable ones. Don’t worry if your specific product doesn’t have reviews, it’s probably just because they recently added the product page and haven’t had time to get any reviews yet. Gearbest works fine in my experience but shipping can get pretty expensive.

In your situation I would probably buy from banggood, they definitely have the best price available right now.

For comparison, I upgraded to a 256GB KingSpec drive:

I bought the disk for about $70 on aliexpress, and also bought a cheap ($7) USB3-to-m.2 adapter. I put the new drive into the adapter, used Macrium Reflect free edition to clone my drive onto the new one, used Partition Wizard to adjust partition sizes, and then opened up the tablet to switch drives. I had expected some irritating boot issue, but it actually worked without a hitch!

I’m happy with the r/w speeds, the lower write speeds compared with the Transcend disk is to be expected.

Also, I put a big thermal pad on the heat spreader, and now the stress test in Intel Extreme Tuning doesn’t push my temps above about 72-79 degrees! Can recommend both operations.

I notice the same lines/swipes when touching the bottom of the screen in Onenote, I don’t get the context menu when clicking icons on the taskbar though.

Yeah, that’ll  be an annoying hardware error. Sorry to hear it, hope the seller doesn’t try to screw you.

I have problems with the barrel plug connector, which made the tablet charge unreliably. Opening it up I found the 12V pin had gotten loose from the PCB, I’ve “fixed” it by stuffing electrical tape on it to put pressure on it until I get home to my soldering iron.

I haven’t encountered any shutdowns or anything like that – it does sound like a hardware issue though it’s weird that it doesn’t happen in Ubuntu. Since thermal issues and most/all other things should leave some footprint in the event manager, maybe it’s a problem with the battery or -connector? That would explain the problems with starting it up again once it’s shut down.
