I wouldn’t be so eager to get a x5-z8300 Cherry Trail tablet. The z3736F will actually outperform the low-end cherry trail chipset while running at much cooler temperatures. The atom z3736F chipset is currently the fastest at the $100 price range. Also keep in mind the Hi8 Pro will be single-OS Windows only, and whether Android can be installed onto it is unknown.

If I were you, I’d look for a z3736F tablet with a 2MP front camera. (The front camera on the Chuwi Hi8 is pretty bad.)

PowerVR is the supported GPU for Intel x86 tablets. But the Chuwi Hi8 actually uses its own Intel HD Graphics GPU. I’m able to get some games to work by using Power VR OBB though. Need For Speed No Limits won’t work on Hi8 no matter what.

It’s not worth it. If it requires you to modify the rear case, then might as well just buy an external battery/power bank. They’re very cheap: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=thin+power+bank

Download the Hi8 Android ROM from the downloads section of this website. Then flash using MFT.

To use Manufacturing Flash Tool with Chuwi Hi8:

    1. Make sure Intel-Android driver (IntelAndroidDrvSetup 1.10.0) & iSoC USB driver (iSocUSB-Driver-Setup-1.2.0) are both installed.
    2. Download Custom_Config.ini from the link below.
    3. Extract it from the .zip file and put it in the Manufacturing Flash Tool’s install directory.
    4. Change your Manufacturing Flash Tool settings accordingly as shown in the Chinese tutorial provided in the downloads section for the Hi8.
    5. Load the flash.xml from your android ROM using Manufacturing Flash Tool.
    6. Plug in your tablet in DnX mode and wait for flash to complete.

NOTE: You will have to reinstall Windows after performing these steps. You’ll need a USB hub and USB drive to install Windows.

Use Mirek190‘s custom partition table method. Replace the Android ROM’s stock ‘partition.tbl‘ file with the custom partition template of your choice (In your case, pick the “Android Only” template). Then flash your tablet with MFT following the steps provided in one of my posts.

Mirek’s custom partition pack can be downloaded here: http://techtablets.com/teclast-x98-air-3g/downloads/

This method was originally made for the Teclast x98 Air 3G, but it works just fine on Chuwi Hi8.

You have to reinstall the drivers. Look in the downloads section for Hi8 on this website.

There are several methods you could use. Check out these 2 links and read what people have to say.

Also, this is Kingo method: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA2YEMTYL2I  (this tutorial was made for Vi8, but it works for Hi8 too)

I personally used x98 Toolbox method to root.  I don’t know how safe Kingo is, but just use one of the other methods if you’re worried.

There are several threads on this. Use MFT, not intel flash tool. Check my recent post on how to flash with MFT.

The headphone buttons are disabled. That’s the point. Use the tablet’s rockers to control volume.

Wow! This is awesome! This inspired me to look deeper and we found a solution! I found this thread on xda for a different device but it worked with this tablet. Simply delete that line and add this instead: key 113 MUTE key 163 MEDIA_NEXT key 164 MEDIA_PLAY_PAUSE key 165 MEDIA_PREVIOUS key 226 HEADSETHOOK WAKE key 231 CALL WAKE_DROPPED Afterwords save and restart No more random pause/plays, you can lock the device without it automatically powering on the screen! Awesome find Gogeta!!! Couldn’t have fixed this without your help! And don’t worry about being off topic, this thread is meant to serve for android, that includes bugs and all. We can create a new topic for people looking for this specific fix though.

What’s the point of adding all of those lines?

Try flashing your android BIOS first. Follow the steps in the tutorial for making a bootable USB drive, and download the android BIOS (7mb file). You’ll need a USB drive & USB hub to do this. (Note: this will remove touchscreen support on Windows OS, which you can reinstall later)
