I purchased the Chuwi Hi9 Plus after reading Chris’ review.
I’ll start by saying that I really want to like this device (purchased on Aliexpress as a package with the keyboard and pen). It looks the part, and, for the most part is very good. The build quality is very good, but it’s the software-hardware interface that’s letting it down.
For instance: I started this review using the physical keyboard. A small break as I listened to my wife’s “day” found me with no physical keyboard and having to continue with the virtual keyboard. The physical keyboard just stops. You cannot boot with the keyboard connected because it will not work. You must connect it after the boot process concludes. And if you allow your device to sleep you lose the keyboard. Only a reboot will restore use of the physical keyboard.. which must be dis-connected during the process.
The device is advertised in a manner as to suggest the the keyboard is an integral part of the system, and yet the integration has been poorly executed.
The screen has issues also, as in it lags and stutters a bit on occassions; even when typing in the pin to unlock the device, for instance. I am using the Microsoft Launcher, but the experience was the same with the stock launcher.
An updated and optimised ROM would turn this device into a brilliant piece of kit. As it is, it’s a disappointment.
These are the two major negatives for what is otherwise a lovely piece of equipment.

I must say that after having tried several chinese tablets, I can only endorse the IPad og Samsung ones now. The Chinese ones are simply not worth it

The frustrations you described with the device’s sleep mode and the need to reboot to reconnect the keyboard highlight a gap in the seamless integration that one would expect from such a device.
Improving these types of software-hardware interfaces can be crucial for enhancing user experience. Optimized firmware and a well-developed mobile app ecosystem could bridge these shortcomings and make devices like the Chuwi Hi9 Plus more reliable.
