Onda M3 – Mini PC with 4GB of RAM and 120GB MSata SSD

Another mini PC, but another one that I find more interesting as it’s not just another Atom Z8300. It’s powered by and older Haswell Celeron G1840. It has a TDP of 54W so a good 10 times that of an Atoms TDP, can clock up to 2.8Ghz and it’s socket 1150. Originally I saw this as a plain barebones mini PC. It would seem now Onda has had to bundle it with a 120GB mSata SSD (With Windows OS) RAM and CPU in order to sell it?

In theory, it can take all 1150 CPUs (Celeron G, Pentium G, Core processors). So you could even put an i5 Haswell in there if you have a spare one around from your last upgrade. But I would worry however getting a higher watt CPU in that tiny case with only asingle little fan for cooling. So the Celeron might be the best bet.

Gearbest has this complete PC package for $213.99 on special. I’ve ordered one myself to have a look at. I did like the Voyo V3 Atom X7 mini PC with SSD, but it wasn’t passively cooled and reached 85 degrees.

  1. Thanks, looking forward to your review of this unit

  2. I wonder if the Core i3-4370 would work well in this system. It has a TDP of 54 watts as well, and should be much faster than the included Celeron, but not get too hot either.

    • Yes it would anything socket 1150,so you could pick up a cheap used i3 or i5 to replace the Celeron.

  3. HI Chris, how do you think this would perform compared to the Voyo V3 as they are both in the same price bracket?

    • I think it should be much better as the has a 54W desktop CPU vs a 2W Atom tablet CPU in the Voyo V3. So better on power limits with a fan to cool it which should mean it can hold the turbo longer than any Atom could. I’m not 100% sure if it’s a single ram slot or two. If it’s just a single 4GB in one slot it would mean single channel only for the RAM.

I’ll order one for review once it’s ready, as I’m interested in this one. And if you have any spare old Haswell i5 CPU’s you could swap them out or get the barebones model http://techtablets.com/2016/01/onda-m3-barebones-mini-pc-with-lga1150/
