Just got my two Chuwi Hi Book Dual OS delivered from DHL. First impression, the build quality is really excellent, on par with the Cube i9, if not better. Speakers seems good as well, no static noise, same with the 3,5mm jack.
And I really like the keyboard, cant compare the keyboard with i9 yet cause I havent gotten it delivered, still on its way from China.
The bios is from february, gonna test all ports but I can already confirm that the tablet accepts 128GB microSD cards from the start, no issues at all!

Will update this post later, if you have any questions just ask me!
*Update*
The type-C USB port is not the standard of 10gb/s, just tried with a type-C flash drive, it is much slower than the one on Cube i9.
The eMMC/SSD is a: Hynix HCG8e
The Wifi is half the speed I get from my cube i9, with my cube I get: down 100mbit/s – up 8,5mbit/s
Uploaded a picture of the eMMC/SSD CrystalDiskMark 5 benchmark test. Dont know if that is good results or not.
*update*
The actually weight of the tablet is not 522 grams but 585 grams, with keyboard the totally weight is 1130 gram.
Manage to get the tablet to 73 degrees as warmest for one CPU core. Doesnt get anywhere close as warm as the Cube i9.
hello, I can not install the WiFi driver because there are missing packages in the terminal that has to download in order to compile the driver … I ordered from amazon an USB hub with Ethernet output that comes with working internet tomorrow …. I should be able to compile everything and operate the WiFi …. but now, when I turn on the tablet, ubuntu starts immediately, without going through the grub …. so I wanted something about Qrefind you said you have used on your mint to have the possibility to chose the operating system…
Realtek RTL8723AU chipset (0bda:b720) sur TECLAST X2 pro
4. Note: unfortunately, the RTL8723AU and the RTL8723BU chipset share the same USB ID…. Which is of course highly annoying. The how-to below is for the RTL8723AU chipset; for the RTL8723BU chipset see item 8 (right column).
For the Realtek RTL8723AU chipset, you have to install a driver. You can proceed like this:
a. First establish internet connection by other means, for example by ethernet cable.
b. ouvrir une fenetre de terminal.
(You can launch a terminal window like this: *Click*)
c. Copier et coller le texte en bleu,(gras) suivant dans l’ordre ci-dessous dans votre terminal ouvert en tant qu’administrateur :
sudo apt-get install git build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r) gksu leafpad
d. Download the driver packages by means of git, with this command:
git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723au.git
Have the driver packages become unavailable? Then download a compressed file with all the packages from my Google Drive (packages as they were in November 2015). Then unpack it and place the files straight in your user folder, otherwise the next steps will fail. Example: John should place the unpacked files in /home/john and not in some subdirectory.
e. Now you’re going to compile the required kernel module from the driver packages. Copy/paste this line into the terminal, in order to enter the folder with the driver packages:
cd rtl8723au
And then run this command:
make
f. Finally, install the compiled module with this command:
sudo make install
g. Now put the current flawed driver on the blacklist; for that, use copy/paste to transfer the following command line to the terminal:
gksudo leafpad /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf
Now a text file is being opened. In that text file, add the following blue text block, at the end of the existing text (use copy/paste):
# The rtl8723au and the rtl8723bu drivers are flawed, # so they need to be prevented from loading. # This should give the 8723au or the 8723bu driver # the chance to load instead. blacklist rtl8723au blacklist r8723au blacklist rtl8723bu blacklist r8723bu
Save the modified text file and close it.
h. Reboot your computer. ( Personally i stop at this step.)
i. Your wifi should work well now: click on the icon of Network Manager in the system tray, in order to see the available wireless networks.
Note: do NOT install newer kernels, because then you’ll probably lose the driver again! In Linux Mint you never get a newer kernel by default, so that’s OK. But in Ubuntu you do. So I advise to pin Ubuntu to the current kernel (item 7, left column).
If you also want Bluetooth, execute the following commands one by one:
git clone https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8723au_bt.git
cd rtl8723au_bt
make
sudo make install
sudo modprobe -v 8723au_bt
Hi! I’ve had my Hi10 for a week, and so far: My micro sd dissapears when I restart and drops its speed, the wifi connection is half as fast as my laptop (10 MGb of 30 of ADSL) The housing is swelled up around the hotter part in the back, and when using HDMI several times a day my screen loses the connection and I have to unplug and replug, sometimes it comes back on its own.
I already returned a non charging Teclast Plus and I bought this instead because the screen ratio, the full USB and the dock, I’m not very happy, now I guess I’m going to check my BIOS version.
Don’t worry when my type-c hub to USB 3 adapter arrives soon from Amazon, I’ll flash mine and risk the brick. No real loss since mine is running like a POS anyway with screen issues, power on problems and randomly powering off. I hope this will fix it. I have a fixed factory Hi8 Pro on the way to review.
Hi Chris,
Did you successfully upgraded the bios? I have the same issues you are facing with additional wifi disconnecting often and cant connect it back until u reboot it. It happened for both windows and android.
The iwork 12 will only have the same screen, battery, wifi and external build, the most relevant hardware(SoC, SSD, …) will be different even if on the outside they look the same.
And you should be able to backup the original OS as long as you can boot from a usb drive. Just create a bootable linux usb with enough space and use dd with the output set to a file in the usb itself. There are plenty of guides and forum posts about how to do just that, for example https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/disk_cloning#Create_disk_image .
since no dualboot yet, i’we been playing with my Hi12
DuOs android under Win10 work pretty great, im able to play game at fair speed, and paradise bay work at full speed, boom bleach too (paradise bay fail to start under my teclast X98 plus) http://www.amiduos.com/
now i did try android-X86 6.0 but it was slow, so last nigth i did compile 6.0.1 from source, and i was amaze by booting speed … there is a lot for improvement to do, since no sound/BT/wifi (for wifi external usb work) and touchscreen, but for touchscreen i did find linux driver for goodix, so i will try to add them and compile again (3hours compile time 😉 )
anyway, maybe one day we can enjoy it … but dev this is time consuming, and im still roockie on this field, but is fun to try, lots of issue to solve, if more dev, maybe one day …. we will get it fully working
Good news, yes the CHuwi Hi12 performance is okay considering it’s only an Atom X5 Z8300. The huge thermal pad on the SoC helps I think. Hopefully we won’t need emulators soon if Chuwi releases some flashable dual boot files for us Windows users.
hy chris, how are u ?
the duOS working pretty good, im really amaze, i just try paradise bay game, with 3d grafix, and the game run pretty well, this game dont even run on my telacts X98 plus .. !! very happy
i think dualboot files should be there soon .. 🙂 but good to use DuOS emulator … untils files are there
this tablet is really great for the price i pay (200$) better than my teclast … for sure ..
thank chuwi to enable virtualisation, not like teclast tablet ! 🙁
edit : i did try Xubuntu, and seem working great, but no wifi and touchpad, but with 2 real usb port, is not a big deal to attack wifi and M/Keyboard
Yes I used a 600ac circuit. Yeah im sure that a more expensiv adaptor would get better results. But you have to beleave me, the results I get are pretty damn good. I pay for 100mbit down and 10 mbit up. please look at the picture to see my results. I can say that by our kitchen table the wifi is impossible to use on any phone or laptop what so ever. But now I get impressive 20 mbit down. Before I got like 0,5 mbit down.
thx for the schematic, and yeah’ looks miles better then what im getting on basic x2..
wicked that plug & play items works flawlessly when hijacking the usb3 pins under the hood..
LTE USBdongles a way for LTE support and bypasss the driver-issue that seems to be the case on huawei boards some x2-users previus tryed where numerous win10 difficulties..
So, I just tested the latest 16.04 rc1 build. Things are definitely improving. The screen rotation shortcuts work, my D-link usb wifi works. I was able to log out and back in with the “usu” user and blank password, and switch the keyboard. The issue I was having with the M key seems to be caused by my little portable keyboard, when I switched keyboards the M was M not zero. I tried to play a YouTube video to test the sound but then I had a lockup. I did a hard power-down and the USB drive will not boot now (same as with previous versions) All this is with the LIVE boot option.
I will fool around with trying to get a persistent live USB working in the next few days.
@chris I dont get this speaker buzz sound you were talking about. The interesting thing i have noticed is the difference in bench mark scores we get (not loads but some are far enough).
@cheesypeas As for windows activation, My version is activated and fine
@chris but (but i dd do a reset straight away which in turn might have killed my driver for the wifi which your version is running 150mb and mines only 75mb
I have a usb c hub with 3 usb ports on and a lan socket and this powers up my tablet, and powers up my ext HDD with no problem too.
Tryed the store app “internet speed test”..but it keeps stating upload values in the 3 digits(pic)..i do have an up-connection in these values but certainly not on x2 pro std wireless N that it should manage +300mb.. these wifi-values is optain just on top of router and just few feets away it drops like an hot potatoe with an range that are extremely pour…
hmm. That looks strange. What speeds are you paying for?
I recommend to use speedtest.net to measure your speeds. Very reliable, If you want to be extra sure what speeds you get, make the test with 2 different browsers
”
in regards to your link..goes for 10.8US shipped on app and seems to support gigabit and with active possiblelities5v port..
