Bang for the buck

Just received the Alldocube Knote 5 yesterday from DHL. Bought for E 261,- from gearbest, by far the cheapest windows 10 tablet with a little horsepower.

The tablet comes with a power adapter and a simple click on euro-connector plug, a usb-c to 3.0 converter and an extra usb-c to 3x USB 3.0 hub!

Windows 10 home x64 comes pre-installed (english) with a pre-installed Alldocube account.

Screen is non-laminated, with a small, hardly noticeable gap, but the screen does not go very bright on maximum setting, so in broad daylight reflections can get a bit annoying. Sound volume is also very low.

Since i’m planning to use the tablet for browsing, office and some light gaming, i’m not to bothered by this. With low settings and some tweaks, borderlands 2 runs 25-35 FPS, my favourite game, so my most important benchmark, witch makes it perfect for gaming on the go. Seems to run 2,5 – 3 hours gaming for as far as i’ve tested (max performance mode), should run up to 6 hours in energy saving mode with 70% brightness. Standby overnight has used 0% battery life.

Build quality: Tablet feels very sturdy, but also heavy at 825 grams. Does creak a little when tordating the tablet. The trim feels like plastic, the metal back now covers the entire back of the tablet (no more plastic edge at the top of the back, only the trim). The bezels are slim. The keyboard cover has a very luxureous look and feel, with surpisingly deep, comfortable key travel. It weighs around 515 grams.

Pro’s:

  • Cheap windows tablet
  • Sturdy build
  • Small bezels
  • IPS full HD display
  • Good looking / feeling cover
  • Can manage to run Borderlands 2

Cons:

  • A bit heavy
  • Subpar screen brightness
