Happy New Year! A little late I know but, it’s still new years here. With 2016 has now passed, it saw the following changes in the cheaper tablet brands out of China: More OGS screens, Chuwi HiBook Pro for example with a very nice fully laminated 2560 x 1600 screen. More tablets with 8GB of RAM, the Tbook 16 Power, X3 Pro and X5 Pro from Teclast last. And also more Wireless AC modules used in tablets (finally).
So what will 2017 bring from them? I hope more of a push to use fully laminated screens and a move away from Atom tablets and mini pcs. I can see that already happening with the new Apollo Lake tech now starting to appear in the market.
2017 will be a good year for 2-in-1’s the release of the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 which should push the envelope further. Hopefully a new Xiaomi Mi Pad 3 and other tablets from known brands. Mobiles in 2017 will also make the move towards bezel-less designs. Rekindled in 2016 with the release of the Xiaomi Mi Mix.
And also some changes to the TechTablets YouTube channel, the move to a new studio I’m now recording all the reviews and unboxing videos in. And plenty of up and coming tablets, mini pcs, mobiles and other tech to review. So I hope you stick with the site and I’m looking forward to a great 2017.
And now and then on the Twitter account, I let you guys vote on what I should focus on next like the below:
What vid next?

Will 2017 finally see the release of a tablet a lot of us are after?
- 3:2 ratio fully laminated screen with stylus support
- 4GB or 8GB RAM option
- 128GB or 256GB option (Replaceable SSD drives)
- Dual OS Windows 10 with Android 6.0+ or Remix OS 3.0+
- Apollo Lake N4200 or Core M3 Kaby Lake
- Wireless AC
- Full-sized USB ports on the tablet itself
- USB 3.1 Type-C
- Transformer dock
- Larger battery capacity with minimum 7 hours battery life
- Premium thin unibody design.
- Competitively priced.
Manufacturer’s please take note!

Patrick
OGS Screen
Android 7 only
built in GPS
thin full metal case
…this may be a contrarian opinion now that all manufacturers have moved to imitate the Microsoft Surface product line. But please can someone build a really good Android tablet again ? My Cube Talk 9X is ageing and I see ZERO alternative on the market.

@chrisg have you seen the announcement of the Chuwi Hi13 on Chuwi Spain’s fb? https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=2198182983741064&substory_index=0&id=1945922435633788
Chris G
About to post it, thank you for the info!
Usman N
Chuwi Hi10 Pro does not have OGS screen. That is with the HiBook Pro
Blackburn
He got it wrong!
Chris G
Corrected, thanks. those models get confusing.
Katagiri
Nice specs! I hope they hear you.
Andi Domi
7-8h battery
A processor powerful enough to handle some light photoshops
A good integrated graphic card (being able to handle 4k would be great)
A good construction build
Type-C port for external battery
A decent stylus screen with no gap between the screen and the plastic (or a surface screen with surface stylus support)
Preferably not to get as hot as to cook an egg on it.
And under 300€ and I’m sold!

I’d settle for as little as Broadcom (macOS compatible) WIFI AC / Bluetooth cards, and much better charging methods.
Andi Domi
There are a ton of options out there for that i guess, but a cheap and good stylus tablet which supports photoshop… not so much.
Also if im not wrong a company build a “macsafe” charging method that goes in a type-c port. Or you want a wireless charging?
Blackburn
Broadcom AC and Type-C is fast charging like in the Mi Notebook.

Hi I looking for a tablet with good screen and stylus. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Chris G
Chuwi Hi12, Surface Pro 3 screen and supports an active stylus. If you want a faster CPU and better stylus, the Cube i7 Book is the best value around. $269, Core M3-6Y30 and WACOM stylus. https://techtablets.com/2016/12/cube-i7-book-core-m3-6y30-still-just-269/ But the screen is 1080p. Still a decent panel however, once used in the Surface Pro 2.

Couldn’t agree more on those specs. Really looking forward to this perfect tablet! Happy new year and keep up with the great job you are doing!

Chris Happy New Year and Thank You for all you hard work!
I agree with your fantasy tablet except for the following;
I prefer 4:3 ratio
Dual Boot Windows 10 supporting Continuum / Android 7 and easy path to tri-boot with Linux.
Mini HDMI (or does USB-C replace hdmi?)
4G/LTE with full phone functionality under all OSs
Dual Sim slots
GPS
No fan is important to me
10 Hour Battery / 24 Hour Standby
IP67 Waterproof
Hibernation / Instant On that actually is completely off/on and works
Ram expandibility
SSD expandability
Supports current and future Micro SD
All the Best, Andrew @andrewcbartlett

I forgot to say decent cameras front and back for live streaming.
Blackburn
Nice specs, but that would be like $600
Pete
happy new year! …and thanks for all your hard work, it’s much appreciated

good thermal engineering would be appreciated, expeciall now we realised that a simple copper plate can make the difference
Chris G
Oh yes this too! Good thermals is a must!
Andreas
I just want to add 128GB SSD drive with an option to 256GB! I hope they will hear you Chris. Happy New Year!
