After being showed off at China’s Mobile Conference earlier this month with almost no bezels and a pinch-hole camera design, the Honor V20 became official yesterday and, while the phone isn’t as bezel-less as we’d dreamed off, it could still be a good compromise between looks, specs and price. So, now that we’ve had some time to get every detail in, here’s all you need to know about the latest Honor V20 flagship phone!
Let’s begin with the design, which we believe is something Honor really invested heavily into. The Honor V20 does indeed come in a special variant right away conceived with an Italian luxury brand – Moschino, this model has a very unique v-shaped aurora back cover and is available in Phantom Blue and Phantom Red. Meanwhile the normal variants are available in Blue, Red and Black.
Along with the usual glossy backs, the company kept the horizontal alignment of the rear cameras, which some could say doesn’t look as sleek as the vertical one on the Huawei P20 Pro and many other phones.
Moving onto the front of the phone, we find a large 6.4-inch LCD display with a “full screen” design and the smallest punch-hole camera in the upper left corner (only 4.5mm). The display then has FHD+ 1080 x 2310 resolution and a 398 PPI. Bezels around the screen are quite thin, exception made for the usually thicker bottom chin.
Honor’s V20 is powered by flagship Huawei’s Kirin 980 CPU with a max clock of 2.6Ghz, paired with either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. The V20 has an advanced cooling system called “The Nine” which is basically a 9-shaped heat pipe which goes through various components and cools them down. Of course, we also have Huawei’s GPU Turbo 2.0 to speeds things up.
Being a Honor phone, there’s always a huge emphasis on photography. The Honor V20 doesn’t disappoint there with a Sony IMX586 image sensor capable of shooting 48MP photos. It’s a big 1/2-inch sensor supported by AI and a TOF sensor to precisely separate the subject from the background. At the front, we instead find a still high-res 25MP selfie snapper.
Other neat features on the Honor V20 include a new GPS module called HI1103 for precise navigation, the YOYO assistant to create 3D characters and Link Turbo technology to use both WiFi and LTE connections at the same time,
Finally, the Honor V20 is fueled by a 4000mAh capacity battery that can charge at 4.5V5A through the USB Type-C port at the bottom.
