FNF iFive Mini 4S Firmware 1.06 Released & Root Method

FNF just released firmware update 1.06 for the iFive Mini 4S / RePad 8. No change log with it again. But it can only be bug fixes and improvements. I’ve yet to flash this one as my tablets in the office. But I’ll download and mirror it tomorrow, flash it too and see if I can tell if anything changed or not.

Edit: Thanks to Sav the changelog:

Mainly optimize video playback only when there is no sound image problem.

And here is a great thread on XDA for gaining root and flashing a custom recovery.

Thanks FLOz for the info.

  1. Has anyone successfully tethered GPS from Android phone on the iFive Mini 4S tablet?
I was trying to use a Bluetooth GPS client. App installed on the iFive Mini 4S and selected as mock location app in Developer Options yet I keep getting the error message ‘Mock Location Disabled’. Any assistance shall be appreciated. By the way, I got the tablet from GearBest for 94$ and it is fantastic so far!

  2. Hey,

Like to know about batteryand gps.
    Thanks

  3. Should I get this, or Samsaung S2 8″, or Xiaomi mipad 3 ? Just after a decent Android tablet for browsing/music. Dont mind the FNF iFive Mini if audio buzz is a non issue ?

    • Yea I have the same 1.0.8 firmware, however my WIFI is completely unusable, it cannot even last for 1 minute before turning off by self. Any idea?

      • I have the same problem. Just got my iFive a couple of days ago with 1.0.8 on it. WiFi drops all the time and once it does. I can’t turn it on again unless I reboot. Totally unasable at the moment for me.

I also have the mipad 3. No probs at all with that tablet. Don’t know about the Samsung, but the mipad is definitely a good choice imho.

        • Edit: it’s 1.0.8B running on my Ifive. Not sure what the B stands for. Maybe it’s a beta version?

  4. Hi guys.
    I just received the tablet.
It came with firmware 1.0.8b (??????)
It was surprising because in the official web, the last one is 1.0.6…
but it was working well until I was watching a h265 video in Kodi and suddenly restarted… and it was impossible to stop the bootloop.
So i had to install some firmware and the only one I found was the 1.0.6 and the custom rom from one guy in XDA…
So, since then I’m not able even to start reproducing an H265 video…
    Any thought?

  5. Trying to flash this rom with no success. Just received my mini 4s today – it’s on 1.0.5 at the moment. I uninstall then install the driver, this seems to go ok. After running the firmware update tool and loading the firmware, I switch off the tablet, press the down volume button then plug it in , but all that happens is a unrecognized usb windows error and it doesn’t update. I’m running win 10 , i have also tried it on a win 10 laptop and a win 7 pc all with the same results. Anyone else experience this? I am missing something or doing something wrong?

    Cheers

  6. Does anyone know if a stylus can be used with this tablet?

  7. I have flashed the rom yesterday. As always: make a backup because everything will be deleted (or maybe there is a option i didnt find to keep the data). So far i cant see any improvement, it even feels a bit slower than before, but maybe its just imagination. My wifi is still okay (but not as good as in my Galaxy S7), still problems with the headphone sound. The root methode mentioned in one of the articles here yesterday/today works well with this version.

    • Same here, ROM feels the same. Static on the headphone jack, the same. Can’t see any difference, so just that video fix as listed in the changelog.
