One of the biggest issue with chuwi hi12 is the wifi connectivity. I know this problem varies from tablet to tablet. I only have wifi problem 5% of time where I have to reboot to get the wifi back, but it’s still quite annoying. It’s a bigger problem for the android side since it’s hard to add an external wifi adapter which involves quite a bit linux commandline hack according to this post:

    http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484339

However, I found this article which claims a compatible realtek usb wifi adapter works out of box on his android tablet:

    http://tabletmods.blogspot.com/2012/06/external-wifi.html

The chuwi hi12 uses realtek RTL8723bs chip inside. so I managed to find a usb version of the wifi adapter with same chip model number

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01FA4JK88/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=

Hopefully it will work under android without messing with linux driver or whatsoever. I will report back once receive my order from China.

    Hi all,

I need a few tablet recommendations to consider.

I do in fact have a 2 in 1 tablet with no name on it. The wife got it as a prize for winning a competition.

Inside it is an Intel Atom Baytrail 3735, 2GB RAM, a nice 10 inch screen and dual boot.

Unfortunately the charging port has gotten loose and it refuses to charge, so it’s time for a replacement.

We hadn’t needed a tablet before my wife won this device, but it’s sort of occupied a space in our lives, so here I am trying to fill in an empty gap.

I need something similar to this device:

    1. 10 inch screen.
    2. Good WIFI connectivity
    3. Dual boot OR can I install Remix OS over a Windows only boot device?
    4. A USB 2.0 port for a wireless mouse adapter

When I use the device I prefer to plug in my mouse and work with Windows 10. Mostly web surfing, facebook and similar light activities

When the wife uses it she disconnects the keyboard, boots into Android and uses it as an ebook reader.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated.

Edit: I’d be willing to consider a 10″ tablet only (not 2 in 1) as well, provided it could be used with a bluetooth keyboard of some sort I suppose.

Well I just live booted it on USB and it’s working – first time for me – I’m using it now on my cheap Lenovo notebook. My Realtek rtl8723be wifi NIC is working too. Next step will be to try to install it (multi-boot) beside my Win10 and LinuxMint 18.

Does it include Play Store now?

    Hi Guys,

just yesterday i got my cube i7 book and everything worked. I installed my own Windows 10 the wifi driver from this page. Shortly after most of the other drivers were installed and the last ones i could install manually. And it worked like a charm.

Today I tried to charge it over the USB-C port and since then it doesn’t recognise the keyboard anymore. Well it still seems to see that it is put in, because the automatic rotation lock activates and deactivates, but the trackpad and keyboard don’t give any input. I can’t even get into the bios.

    Hope somebody here can help

    Greetings

Something else for you guys to try if you want on your Atom or Core-M tablets. Ā Remix OS 3.0 (for PC) was just released. Ā It’s based on Android 6 Marshmellow which sits on the 4.4 Linux Kernel, the same as Ubuntu 16.04. Ā I was able to live-boot it on a USB I burned the ISO on using Unetbootin. Ā That was the first time it booted for me on my Lenovo AMD notebook. You can open a terminal/shell window and many of the usual Linux commands are there. Ā My Realtek rtl8732be wifi NIC worked fine and I was able to browse the internet. Ā I didn’t try installing any Google Play Store apps yet. I’ll report when I get around to trying to install it along side my Win10 and LinuxMint 18Ā dual-boot config.

@Ja I just wanted to ask the same exact question…

It’s too sad to waste an USB port for wifi (i’ve bought this tablet because i can use 2!)

Can’t we use an internal M.2 wifi card?? Would it be possible in any way?

    Topic: X80 Power Wifi Mod

    in forum X80 Series

    Hello,

we all know the most mistake of the Teclast X80 Power is the poor wifi..

Its nearly useless if you more then 3 or 4 meters away from Wifi Router.. So i opend it and looked inside šŸ˜‰

I found the Wifi antenna between the micro USB and front Camera half behind the circuit board. I pulled it out there carefuly with a knife and smal screwdriver.

The antenna is verry poor but without the backcase the wifi is 200% better and i have a good conecion 5-7m away with one small wall between. So how we all thougt, the metal backcover is the most problem..

My next steps are cuting a square out of the backcover right there where the wifi antenna find its place and fill the hole of the backcover with white plastic so that it looks not that bad and protects the circuit board.

If you whant i can make some pictures and write up if this mod works the same as with without the complete backcover šŸ™‚

But attention, to open the backcover is not that easy as on the x98 pro because it fits verry close the the front and is verry hard. so if you make it to fast you can broke your screen! and i give no gurentee that it works, all you do you do on your own risk šŸ˜‰

    Edit:

The mod is done, it takes an Wifi improvement of 100% then bevor. You can not wait for a wonder but now i can use my X80 Power with nearly normal Wifi in the same Room as the Router is and with good/ok wlan a room away with a smal stone wall.

The only thing is, you have to take care that your hand is not complete there where the wlan antenna is because then the wifi is much worse.

And sorry for my bad english i often use the google translater and my school english i learned many years ago but i hope you understand what i write.

    Cheers

Reporting back to the random bluescreens problem I have. I figured out it is totally related to the RAM, not the Realtek Wifi driver. If I set the RAM to 1600MHz, the tablet freezes mostly after 1-2 minutes, after entering connected standby (display off / power button press). When I switch back to the default value of 1066MHz, it becomes more stable, still had a freeze and bluescreen (reboot) at least once every 1-2 days in standby, both under Android and Windows. Most people wont notice this I guess, because the device reboots and when they turn it on again, they are in login screen. You have to go in Windows, system control, and look under the “reliability monitor”: http://i.imgur.com/JGfZANo.png

Look if you have red x there, and then it’s mostly “hardware error” or “unexpected shutdown”, meaning there was a bluescreen while the device was in standby.

A friend of mine has the c-version too and the same hardware error bluescreens in his logs, mostly happen every 1-3 days at least once under Windows, if you let it idle in standby.

It could also be, that some might be lucky, and they have different RAM in their tablets, which are 1600MHz compatible, same with the three different eMMC manufacturers.

I found another blog entry somewhere for the Teclast X98, where one person said his version had 1066MHz RAM too. He contacted Teclast and they told him, that this was a change for “stability reasons”. My suggestion is, that those Chinese corps changed the newest version of these cheaper tablets, for example the rev2/usb-c version of the iwork10, so it would become 20-50$ cheaper, and my bed is they used cheaper RAM, mostly old ones they could buy for just a few bucks. If you look with a tool/bios you will also notice, that the RAM in this version has no JEDEC information about what kind of RAM it is, it’s just noted that it’s manufactured by Hynix, and my bed is, it’s not even 1066MHz compatible, mostly just 800MHz.

This is also the reason why this tablet is so incredible slow under Windows. Every Windows 10 animation lags / drops frames. But it cant be the only reason behind it, it seems there is some kind of clocking issue with the CPU too, because my older Venue 8 Pro 8″ tablet is silky smooth under Windows 10, and its CPU, an Atom z3740 is weaker than the x5-z8300.

Hi! I’m a long time Linux user, but new to this forum. I recently purchased a Onda oBook 12 and tried to install Ubuntu on it. I’ve tried 15.10, 16.04 and the XJUbunTAB 16.04; all of them boot correctly, but none of them make work some devices: wifi, sound, and bluetooth. XJUbuntu makes touch screen work, but calibration fails and it behaves in a weird way. I don’t worry about touch screen and I can live without touch screen in my laptop for some more years, but I badly need all others. Booting in Windows I’ve been able to gather some information about those devices and all them seem to be SDIO bus devices. In Linux none of them show up in lspci, lsusb or lshw; /sys/bus/sdio/devices/ is an empty directory. I’ve tried a custom kernel 4.6.4 with all SDIO-like options activated with no success. Any suggestions or recommended readings? After twenty some years using linux, switching to Windows10 is not an option :-(. Thanks in advance.

    paste output of terminal command:

    inxi -Fxz

    lspci | grep Network

    lshw -C network

    and

    sudo rfkill list

[edit] On second thought, download the Linux Mint Mate 18 64bit ISO and create a live USB boot of , boot and try it, then open a discussion thread on the LM wireless forum section and paste your results. Myself and others canĀ followup there.

    Hi

Had the rev1 of this tablet before, but had to send it back because it died, got a refund and have been looking around a bit what to order, but i keep getting back to this tablet because of the pricing compared to the spec and build quality.

So, anyone else share Hans complaints in the other thread? Or was he unlucky with his tablet?

I’m thinking about ordering this tablet in Rev2 (still have the keyboard and tampered glass)

Don’t buy the USB-c version (rev2). I have it and it’s scam, compare to the rev1 version:

    • no USB 3.0 (the usb-c port is usb 2.0 wired). Already asked at gearbest and they confirmed it: http://i.imgur.com/c3IzkEV.png (what a joke)
    • slow charge, it just charges ā€œfastā€ if it’s powered off then it takes about 5hours to charge from 0 to 100%
    • usb-c port cant give enough power to power it while it’s on, it alway goes back to 98% then charges to 100%, stays a bit, and charges again, in a loop. This just happens if you use the device a ā€œbitā€ for example watching a movie or watch twitch.tv at source. or just test it with prime95
    • DDR3 instead of DDR3L, this is bad because it drains way more power, but also means more heat, and unstable at higher speeds. thatfor it’s set to 1066MHz.
    • DDR3 is clocked at 1066MHz instead of 1600MHz, which is a huge speed loss. Tried to set it to 1600MHz resulting in random reboots and app force closes (both Windows and Android).
    • cheap and slow Toshiba/Hynix eMMC, 30-50% slower than the Samsung MMC in rev1. The Toshiba has around 30MB/s write speed, where Samsung one has 77MB/s
    • So far had lots of bluescreens, mostly related to the Realtek Wifi driver, also had some freezes yet in Windows while sticking in a USB pen

    Samsung eMMC:

X80 wifi reception is bad on Windows as well as Android – these are hardware related design (antenna, case) issues. You can use USB OTG wifi on Windows, but it won’t work on Android.
