Next up for review: PiPo W8, Chuwi’s Hi8 and Vi8 Ultimate

It’s been a battle getting hold of a PiPo W8, but 3rd time lucky my unit is finally in the EU. Hopefully arriving tomorrow if not Monday. If you’re new to the PiPo W8 model, it’s a promising Core M 10.1″ tablet with a super sharp, 2560 x 1600 pixel screen. This could be my last Core M I review or maybe the Cube i7 Stylus will be, but these higher end tablets are just to risky and expensive to review. The last, the Onda V116w Core M was disappointing…

Besides this Pipo W8, I have the Chuwi Hi8, which is a new 8 inch with a Z3736F CPU and a nice 1920 x 1200 screen. And then there is the Chuwi Vi8 Ultimate, same CPU, but a lower 1280 x 800 pixel screen the original infamous Chuwi Vi8 uses.

They will no doubt all arrive at once and I’ll have the usual assortment of hands on videos, unboxing and comparisons. Followed by a review of each one a week or two later, once I’ve used them for a decent enough time to get to know the full in’s and outs of the tablet.

Keep an eye on my Youtube channel as things will be up there before here.

  1. Just got my Chuwi Hi8 today.
Very nice sharp screen, faster than VI8, very nice and smooth, screen is about 0.5mm sideways between the top and bottom…
Android has store installed, everything seems to work, Wifi seems to be in the “chinese” norm. Single speaker ok sound. Incredible value for the 100$ paid.

    • Got mine too via DHL today, just uploading a hands on video. It’s exactly the same as the Vi8 Ultimate, bar the screen which looks as sharp as an iPad retina. The eMMC’s Chuwi now use are rubbish! Please use crystal disk mark and benchmark your one. I get 45 read and 35 write! Ouch…..No wonder it’s cheaper, still seems to perform okay mind you. And yes, I paid $92 for it and it’s 100% value.

  2. Thanks a lot for your unboxing video, it seems that pipo hasn’t improved much and besides the screen resolution it offers absolutely nothing that’s worth buying.
Guess i will go with the Cube I7 Stylus, from all the chinese (and even european) core m tablets it probably offers the most quality on a affordable price point.

  3. Hello, did you receive your Pipo W8 today?
The 2560×1600 resolution seems pretty impressive, i’m also curious if it’s possible to open the device more easily which seems a lot more complicated on the Cube I7.

    • Yes, I have it now. Uploading an unboxing and hands on video to my YT channel now. The screen is real nice and sharp, but it has a bit of dust under the glass… grrrrr and could be brighter. My first impressions will be posted here with the unboxing video soon. I want to open it up to and add a larger M.2 sdd if I can, but it looks like it could be glued together however 🙁

  4. But those Chuwi 8inchers have really REALLY poor cameras and small batteries… The Cube iWork8 3G may not be so high res but at least the battery is decent and the cameras not 0.3 MPix!

    • True and better speakers (two) of them vs just the one. The new Chuwi’s are meant to have a 2MP front camera now instead of that horrible 0.3 front facing one and improved loud speaker. 5000mAH battery and the iwork 8 3G has around 6000mah, a little more.

The real reason to get the Hi8 is for the Z3736F, higher res screen and cheaper price ($93)
