Mini M8S Android 4k Media Player For Under $40

Mini M8S Android 4k Media Player For Under $40

Here we have another super cheap 4k Android 5.1 media player. The Mini M8S, is powered by a quad-core Amlogic S905. It has a HDMI 2.0 port, that supports 60hz 4k. It can also decode H.265 so an ideal cheap media player.

On the connectivity side of things it has wireless N and a LAN port (Sadly only 100 mbits) It has 2GB of RAM and a 32GB eMMC. There is a MicroSD card slot and USB 2.0 for expanding the storage.

The M8S comes with a remote and is currently only $38.99 with coupon MIM8S.

  1. 37$ it cost now.
    Thanks for sharing Chris.

  2. Does it explicitely say it can decode HEVC at 4k@60fps? Maybe it decodes only H264 4k@60fps. Or maybe it decodes some profiles of HEVC 4k@60fps?

You can encode H264 content with ffmpeg with super-slow encoding so it is VERY CPU intensive to decode but the filesize is very small while quality is still very good.

The question is if this player can really decode ALL HEVC 4k@60fps content or just most videos out there today and in the future?

  3. Is it better for Kodi than Raspberry Pi 3 (not talking about the 4k)? I use Kodi for IPTV and torrent streams.

    • Not sure, but It should be. This can handle native H.265 decoding which isn’t easy.

  4. Pretty neat device, I think I’ll buy this one. Thanks for the heads-up!
Just a word of caution, both the shown image and the linked listing say 8 GB ROM: “2GB RAM + 8G ROM capacity, extendable capacity up to 32GB”. That sounds to me like max. 32 GB SDcard, not 32 GB eMMC.
