Xiaomi Mi Max Unboxing And Hands On

Xiaomi Mi Max Unboxing And Hands On

Here it is the biggest Xiaomi mobile phone and the biggest mobile I’ve ever had. A whopping 6.44 inches makes even my Note 5 and S6 Edge+ look small. The Mi Max is basiclly an upsized Redmi Note 3 Pro. It shares the same specs (apart from the screen size) A Qualcomm Snapdragon 650 or 652, 3GB or 4GB of RAM. A 32GB, 64GB or 128GB Rom, 16MP PDAF rear camera, dual SIM and MicroSD card support is still there.

The screen is a bright 1080p 6.44 inch IPS screen covered with Gorilla Glass 4 and 2.5D rounded edges. It’s still sharp too with 342 PPI. It was meant to be coing with MIUI 8 but it seems it’s not ready yet and ships with MIUI 7.1. It’s running of Android 6.0.1 and a MIUI if you’re unfamilar with it is a a skin ontop of Android with a rather iOS look and feel to it. It’s also got some handy extra features you won’t find on stock Android ROMs.

I picked this one up from Aliexpress seller Top One who have a good service to the EU which is fast and tax-free with DHL.

Don’t worry, I’m still working on the tablet reviews. It’s just nice to have a little break from tablets and check out some of the cool new Chinese mobiles.

  1. It’s been a while since you did this review but my current phone is starting to play up and I’m looking at the Mi Max as my new phone. I mainly use my phone for YouTube, movies and browsing so the big screen attracts me. What was it like to live with day to day and would you recommend it as it’s in black Friday deals.

    • Yes comes recommend, I’m still using mine. It takes a while to get use to the size for placing it in your pocket etc. But get battery life, and the screen is very nice for a 1080p one. Great for movies, gaming and YouTube etc.

      • Thanks Chris, I was abit worried on one issue, build quality as I saw on one online review that when they bent it lightly the phone separated along the edge. Have you found any issues with that? And is Google play store easy enough to install if not there? Sorry I like to do my research before I buy something, must have watched your mi max reviews about 20 times looking at all the info.

  2. Hi Chriss wanted to tell you that today I received my cube i9 after 2 months, I wanted to ask whether it is advisable to perform a hard reset the tablet? Perhaps berry or erase some important program 🙁

  3. Pity, this looks exactly like the formfactor i need . Never again Xiaomi for me though. I’m one of the few MiPad 1 owners and i learned my lesson….

    • That’s a shame, I skipped the Mi Pad 1 so didn’t experience the issues with it. But the Mi Pad 2 is a nice little tablet and the new Mi mobiles are quite good for the price, if you can live with MIUI.

      • At this point, the way they treated us MiPad 1 owners they’ve “broken” Xiaomi for me for a long time. They have to do something really amazing for me to reconsider. There was never any problem with the hardware or the quality. But leaving us in the dust with the software this badly is just unforgivable. I could stomach it if they had released sources, cause then we could make our own software, but they haven’t even done that.

  4. the backside Chinese:
    Qualcomm Snapdragon 650
    2.5 D glass

  5. Hi. thanks for the video, I’m very interested in this phone.
Piece of advice as a phablet afficionado: don’t try to wrap your fingers around it and grip it as you’d do with a small phone. Just rest the back on your fingers, gives much more freedom of movement.

    • I was doing that more for the purposes of the video so people could see the size. I’m used to larger phones, but normally only 5.7″ (Note 5 & S6 Edge)
