Chuwi Hi10 Pro Unboxing & First Look (A HiBook With Remix & Windows)

Chuwi Hi10 Pro Unboxing & First Look (A HiBook With Remix & Windows)

No surprises here. It’s just like the Hibook, exactly the same specs. Just instead of Android 5.1, it has Remix OS 2.0. However, it’s better, due to one thing. The USB Type-C port is working at USB 3.0 speeds unlike my first batch HiBook I unboxed which only worked at USB 2.0 speeds.

Sorry about the video focus in some parts, my manual focus was off on the lower half of the screen. I’m still getting use to my new Sony A6300 camera.

First impressions & more info:

  • All ports power external HDD’s, the type-C port is working just fine at USB 3.0 speeds like it should.
  • 12GB free in Remix
  • 27GB free in Windows.
  • 5V 3A charger, Type-C this is faster than the MicroUSB 2.0 ports and you can’t charge from the USB 2.0 port. Only data.
  • My unit has a Samsung CWBD3R 64GB eMMC 139 mb/s reads and 60 Mb/s writes (Good speeds)
  • The screen is the exact same unit as the HiBook, it looks good. No complaints, of course not no way near as good as the HiBook Pro’s
  • Air gap between the front glass and IPS is around 1mm, not distracting or huge like the PiPo X10’s massive 3-4mm gap.
  • Build quality is very decent for the price, the keyboard is good too. Again see the HiBook review for info on that: Chuwi HiBook review.
  • Great to see Remix & Windows, shame the HiBook doesn’t have this, I feel Remix is better suited to this 2-in-1 style. Shame it’s not Remix OS 3.0 with Android 6.0

Due to the similarities to this Hi10 Pro and the HiBook, I doubt I will give this a big in-depth review, but more of a shorter review skipping gaming as that has been already covered so often on the X5 Z8300 and we all know how it performs there (Just like the HiBook!)

It’s currently selling for $213 over at Gearbest.

  1. hey, just got the tablet it doesnt turn been charging it for few hours now but still doesnt turn on, any solotions?>

    • Hold the power button 14 seconds. Plug it in and let it charge overnight then try again. Hold the power button 3-4 seconds.

      • it looks like it has power, i can hear the windows sound when i plug a usb device in the tablet but no display or just a black screen

  2. Hey there, I recently saw that Gearbest has a “new” version of the Hibook Pro that comes with a Z8350 cpu. Do you guys happen to know if there are other changes as well, like an USB 3.0 type c port?

    • I heard from some user in the forum or comments they had USB 3.0 speeds on their type-c port, so later it was fixed.

  3. Hello Chris,
    Thanks for all the information.

The “current” version (z8350) of the Hi10 Pro is now being sold in the USA by geekbuying and shipped by NEWEGG (from the USA).
It seems like a good deal at 150USD and there is one review up on the Newegg site now

Does your (or anybody else who’s had it a few months) Hi10 Pro still work correctly after a few months of ownership and use?

    Thank you

  4. Hi Chris,

I am thinking of buying a Hi10 Pro. Have a few questions

    1. Is the Hipen2 stylus good enough for regular note talking in class?
    2. What about passive stylus? Palm rejection works with it?
    3. Can the tablet be docked in reverse & then folded to use as pdf viewer, note writing?
    4. Any shared storage between two OS? Or can I create a 3rd partition for sharing media?

  5. This is on sale at GearBest for $159.99 until 31Oct.

  6. I guess not but… Would the cube iwork 10 keyboard work with the chuwi hi10 pro?

  7. Are the full size USB ports on the keyboard capable of powering hard disk drives? Connected to the hibook pro doesn’t output enough power…

    • Only the tablet seems to output enough. Not the keyboard, just flash drives.

  8. Hi Chris,

Got a problem with USB C port on my HI10 Pro – nothing’s being detected – neither mouse nor storage sticks.

Any clue what might be wrong?

    Thanks!

  9. Hi Chris thanks for the review! Do you know if Chuwi are still using the single antenna for bluetooth and wifi inside? The Hibook has poor wifi due to the combination of single antenna and case design and it gets even worse when using bluetooth. Could you test the bluetooth and wifi at the same time?

    • Hi, yes it’s the same single antenna. Its all the Realtek N chipset supports and using Bluetooth at the same time slows wifi a lot. This is a common issue with the wireless N and Atom. Tablets and notebooks with dual band intel AC chipset don’t have this issue and work much better.

      • Thanks Chris, I expect the wifi is just as bad as the Hibook then unless they’ve repositioned the antenna or used a different one.

        • I haven’t had issues with wireless on my Hibook or Hi10. I did wit hthe Teclast X98 Plus 2. THis one still works good for me. Try different router settings or another band.

  10. Hello Sir.
What are the differences between HiBook and Hi10 pro?
As far as i compared, they are almost similar except the camera.
    Any other differences?
    Please Help.
    Thank You.

  11. Hi Chris,
I have purchased this tablet few days back. I have one doubt though, does the orange light always blinks while charging?
Because when it does that(blinking), my tablet charging indication is also changing form “charging” to “not charging” and so on.
It feels like I am switching off and on the power supply again and again.
But, If I completely switch off the tablet, and start the charging it. and then start the tablet, it charges without above issue.
    It is normal?
    Thank,
    Vishal K.

    • Blinking = charging. On all the time means the battery is 100% full. If you turn it off and then connect it again it will start to charge again for a few minutes or even less if its full. That’s normal.

      • Even I face the same problem. Even the charging light goes blinking and on the battery icon in windows, the power connected symbol continuously connects and disconnects. Is that normal?

        • I have the same problem
On windows, not the light indicator , but the battery guage on screen keep changing from “charging” to “not charging”
Wanna know if it is normal
          On remix it is normal

  12. Hi, just received it, works decently, but it got completely discharged. Left it charging the whole night but just charged 45%, is or Normal?

  13. Thanks for this review
I would like to know your opinion about hipen h2 stylus that’s according to their website is compatible with it and tell us if it support pressure sensitivity and palm rejection or not .
    thanks again

  14. Thanks for you review. Just bought it from AliExpress. Scheduled to receive tomorrow.

Tablet works with Chuwi HiPen H2? I can’t find any review about it.

    • Yes the HiPen H2 model, the HiPen first model doesn’t work, this is the one I have and it will not work on it.

  15. Hi I want to know if the Hi10 pro or Hibook pro? I want to use the stylus.
I know that Hi10 pro, has Remix 2.0, stylus support, and small battery and smaller screen resolution, is that true?

    • The HiBook Pro has a great screen, but no stylus support. The Hi10 Pro and Hi book support the Chuwi HiPen stylus.

      • does the h1 pen work? also does the h2 pen have palm rejection?

        • It’s not the same stylus as the HiPen, but the newer one. My HiBook / Hi12 pen is not working on the Hi10 Pro.

  16. I’ve bought the Hi10 Plus a few days ago :). I think it’s the best option, although “unknown”.

Better battery and bigger screen (10.8″). I hope this version (Plus) don’t have the issues that you mentioned at Hi10 Pro’s review. We’ll see :).

Congratulations for the blog and YouTube channel, your work it’s great ;).

  17. Hi Chris! I would like to know how does the battery life on Hi10 Pro compare against Vi10 Plus? This one here has 6400mah battery while the Vi10 Plus has 8400mah. For me, Hi10 Pro seems better because of the 4GB RAM and 64GB storage, but when you look at the battery, I’m not so sure if it’s worth the extra $50~ over the Vi10 Plus.

  18. Hey Chris,

Does this have a active stylus? does the hi12 pen work with it? also, palm rejection. thanks man, really count on your vids and this site.

  19. Hi,
I have the device but there is a problem: I cannot connect my USB3 pendrives to the type-c socket via an adapter. I tried two different adapters but they didn’t work, how did you manage to use the type-c port with external hard disk? Did you use a specific adapter?
    Thanks
    Lorenzo

  20. Is it overheats ?

  21. Hi Chris, would you recommend the Hi10 Pro or the Hibook pro? I have a TBook 10 I’m looking to offload and replace with one of them but I’m not sure which to go for! I know the screen is nicer on the HiBook but does it lag/impact performance much (my hi12 seems a little bit on the laggy side with the hires)

    Thanks!

    • Yes I would also be interested if there are any differences in performance between the 2 (lag, battery life).
Is the screen of the HiBook Pro good enough for outdoor use? I think you had mentioned the Hi10 Pro/HiBook screen would struggle a bit with outdoor use.

  22. It is a shame that it’s not using Remix 3.0.
There is a Chinese tablet on the market called Jide that uses Remix 3.0 but unfortunately does not include Windows 10
    http://tablet-news.com/2016/06/06/jide-remix-pro-tablet-with-snapdragon-652-cpu-and-remix-os-3-0-gets-handled-at-computex-2016/

    • Would love to see it ship with Remix 3.0, hopefully the update will be released soon via OTA?

    • Hi Pete,

Jide is the company that is making RemixOS. So, of course they will present new tablet when they produce the newest version of the software and also it is expected not to be dual OS and have another OS to compete with their own:).
Let’s just hope there will be RemixOS 3.0 on other tablets like the Chuwi Hi12 that I own:). BTW Remix is so much better that the pure android that was pre-installed on my Chuwi Hi12.

  23. Hi I’m writing from my new hi10 pro. I have a doubt with the use of keyboard. With the keyboard the battery goes out very quickly, there is no option to disable the keyboard keeping them connected ? It would be great to keep the tablet hold on and use only when you need it. Thank you!

    • Hi, does it drain it when not in use too? Seems okay to me it will always drain it a little due to the USB hub inside of it that needs to be powered and the power for the USB ports. There could be a way in device manager to make it sleep when not in use, have a look at the device manager and later properties of the HID keyboard or USB. Sleep settings or standby. The best way to have the keyboard hold it, but not in use is to flip it around and use the keyboard like a stand for it. This is what I have been doing this the iwork10 ultimate.

  24. Could you give us a feedbac about wi-fi? Is it works well? Who is the signal reception away from the router?

    • Seem good so far, downstairs away from my Wireless router it works fine. But the signal drops, this is normal. Even happens to my Surface Pro 4.

  25. I wonder if this connects to the type style keyboard cover of the Vi10 plus or Hi10 plus?

    • Yes the Vi10 Plus and Hi10 Plus keyboard works on it. Docks in and holds it well when you fold it up it does still fit inside but not ideal.
