Finally, the refreshed Atom’s are making their way into Chinese tablets. This is the Haier III and it’s yet another 2-in-1, it’s got a fully laminated 11.6″ 1080p screen and runs only Windows 10 Home (No dual boot) The tablet looks okay, never reviewed Haier’s products before and judging from the pictures it looks to have a bit of a cheaper build. The interesting part is it has the revised Atom X5 Z8550, 2.4Ghz and Intel 400 GPU (Just renamed) It was tweaked slightly so it will be interesting to see if it has any thermal throttling issues?
It also has a metal transformer style keyboard with USB 2 ports either side and front facing speakers, which also give it a large button bezel. Gearbest has it listed here.
Apollo Lake is still coming by the end of the year to mini’s, tablets and 2-in-1’s.But it’s a 6W SoC, much more powerful and more expensive. While the Atom’s may have been discontinued, Intel is still producing these new refreshed Z8X50 chips. I guess it’s just a matter of time once all the Z8X00 stock gets used up manufacturers will all move over the to X5 Z8350, Z5 Z8550 and Atom X7 Z8750. I only hope will see more X8550 and X8750 units than the lowest X5 Z83X0’s.
