Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13 2018 Review Online

Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13 2018 Review Online

The Mi Notebook Air 13.3″ model got a refresh and it’s the second one. I was half expecting a completely new redesign, something like the Dell XPS. But this new 2018 revision sees it more or less becoming a smaller lighter version of the Mi Notebook Pro as it shares the same 8th Gen Intel i5 8250U or i7 8550U CPU’s. And the same paint job. The touchpad and keyboard also got a minor tweak, same goes for the cooling.

Well, it’s a great laptop for the size and weight, packing a nice amount of power it falls short of the Mi Notebook Pro in terms of power, even with the same CPU and GPU configuration. Xiaomi had to tone things down for the smaller form factor. Bottom line is the cooling copes, but only just. Work both the CPU and GPU hard you’ll see some thermal throttling, the same use on the heavier Pro model doesn’t cause it to thermal throttle.

The review rating and list of all the Pros and Cons can be found here, under the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air 13 2018 model review.

I hope next years model is a redesign, at least two separate thermal transfer heat pipes and two large fans. This way it shouldn’t run into thermal throttling.

The 2018 model is currently selling for $929 with coupon MINBAIRNEW at Geekbuying.com here.

  1. I would love to see performance results of the Mi Air 2018 16GB dual channel notebook (sold on geekbuying). Unfortunetly noone has got fingers on one of these yet and they don’t seem to put it on sale… Anyone?

  2. Hello,
Where did you get the information about a 16Gb RAM version? Do you know if it exists for sure? Geekbuying, gearbest etc still do not sell it..

    Thanks in advance,

    Henri

    • I´m really interested in that, too, but there still doesnt seem to be any information about it. Its still listed on geekbuying though. I´m currently thinking about just picking up the 8gb ram model, which i think is fine atm, but i´m worried about the future since the ram is non-upgradeable…

    • No, it doesnt exist. On geekbuying there was/is a mistake. You can see no reviews there, and geekbuying havent sent 1 to anyone. Look on xiaomi china site, only 8gb version was there. So 16GB ram is only motherboard support i think, not in production and probably never be yet.
