Teclast X98 Plus Dual Boot Released

Teclast X98 Plus Dual Boot Released

According to a recent Weibo from Teclast, the X98 Plus Dual OS version is now out. I reviewed the Windows 10 only version and it’s not a bad 9.7″ Retina tablet if a tad underpowered at gaming Vs other Z8300’s (It felt underclocked the GPU). But it was able to get over 8 hours of battery life due to this.

X98 Plus

Banggood has it for $197 with the X98 Plus Windows 10 version coupon ee75d0, which seems to work on the Dual OS model.

Gearbest has it listed at $189, but not shipping until the 15th? Not sure what’s up with that if Teclast has posted it’s now out (again).

Since the platform is the same Cherry Trail, 4GB RAM and 64GB eMMC, I wonder if Mirek190’s X98 Pro Rom would work? No sign of the dual boot bios or files yet, I’ll post them when they are released.

  1. I bought before one week that tablet
    Teclast X98 dual boot (A5C8)
    Kernel version 3.14.3
    And build number v1.05_20160120

    And am sad to realize that battery, its crumby..
    I was expected a tablet with very powerful battery, but mines can least for just 3 to 4 hours..
    But on your site you was promote that tablet for extremely high battery performance from 7 to 10 hours???

    I bought that tablet because i needed high battery performance…

    Can you please let me know, if that its tablets problem or roms problems??

    How can i fix this battery issue?????

  2. Hi,

    I just posted a short review about the X98 Plus Dual on my blog, if you want to check it out as well:

    Chris, thanks again for your website, it helped me a lot chosing this tablet!

    Cheers

  3. Hei,
    What are my options if i wan’t a tablet with the following parameters:
    >= 9.7″ display
    >= 4GB ram
    >= Z8500 cpu
    >= 64gb fast rom
    GPS
    4G (is a huge plus, not a must)
    android + windows 10 dualboot
    does not cost a fortune

  4. Teclast has posted the Dual Boot A5C8 recovery image on their Chinese updated page but it is a baidu download.
    Hopefully someone with an account will post a link.

  5. if there will be a 3G version – it will deffinately be my bye!!!!

  6. Will the screen brightness and colour temperature now more closely mirror the Pro?

    • It should do, it’s using the same LG IGZO 2048 x 1536 panel.

      • I only ask, as in your comparison from November, the Plus screen was noticiably different and looked worse to me.

        • Ah right, now I remember that. In theory they should be the same, as they are the same exact hardware. But different batches and maybe the color settings in the Intel drivers made it different. You can of course tweak in yourself in the Intel GFX settings. We will just have to wait and see what it’s like.

  7. Sorry got the pro and plus confused.

  8. Hesitating if I should get this now or wait for the 4G version…

  9. It’s amazing to see teclast x98 plus (win 10 version) with cherry trail z8300 powering up retina display and getting 7-8 hrs of run time.

    Hope Chuwi Hi12 can atleast get 6 hours atleast but as per the specs it has only 4 hrs runtime! I wonder with metal body they can provide better heatsink? Surely z8300 will be pushed hard with 12″ retina display and will overheat.

    • Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think the Hi12 has a retina display. Do any of Chuwi’s tablets?

      • It’s got a 2160 x 1440p display, the Surface Pro 3 display. Personally, I would have liked to have seen an Atom X5 Z8550 running it. Seen enough of the low-end Z8300 now.

        • @chris do you reckon it will be worth to wait till the end of feb for more powerful soc tablets from the likes of Teclast, Pipo, etc?

          Really tempted to buy chuwi hi12 but like you said seen enough of under powered Z8300!

          So far Cherry trail reviews have been disappointing with overheating and power consumption issues.

          • Well, I hope to see some X5 Z8550 tablets coming soon, the new Atom Z8X50 Cherry Trail refresh and maybe Chuwi with a X7 Z8700 or Z8750 Hi12 version, that would be nice. Even better if they use that metal housing as a larger heatsink like Cube did on the i7 Stylus.

      • It’s pretty much in the same ppi range but just a fancy word from apple. So far imo the best display i have seen in tablet is the super amoled samsung tab s10.5 & tab s2.

        • Surface Pro 4 display 🙂 But I agree the Tab S2 display is very nice 9.7″ SAMOLED. Just a shame it has screen burn issues http://techtablets.com/2015/12/samsung-galaxy-tab-s2-screen-burn/

          • Yeah true but that one being a demo store model which runs 24/7, It’s bound to have screen burn issues. My Samsung tab s 10.5 has no such issues after heavy usage over a year and i still prefer the 16:10 ratio for my movies and tv shows.

            It would be interesting to see samsung tab pro s 12″ windows super amoled display against surface pro 4 🙂

  10. Im quite curios to see what that Z8300 scores in Antutu V6 in comparison to Z37xx (which does about 50k)

    • I would guess around 35k (in previous antutu..was it 5?).
