Xiaomi Mi Pad 2E – A Dual OS Updated Version?

Xiaomi Mi Pad 2E – A Dual OS Updated Version?

Take this one with a grain of salt. Seems Xiaomi could be releasing a Dual OS upgraded version of the Mi Pad 2. Labeled as the Mi Pad 2E, it comes with a new 16MP rear camera and 8MP front camera. Storage options now start at 64GB with a 128GB version, considering it will be running MIUI 8 and Windows 10 home this makes sense and since there is no microSD support we really need all the storage we can get.

What doesn’t make much sense to me is they have also upgraded the CPU to an Atom X7 Z8700, not a refreshed Atom X7 Z8750 and the Z8500 already got hot enough would the thin alloy house handle extra heat from the Z8700?. The type-c port remains USB 2.0, no display out and still 2GB of DDR3 RAM which was the biggest criticism of the Mi Pad 2.

If this does turn out to be real, I find it odd they didn’t give us this instead:

  • 4GB DDR3 1600Mhz RAM
  • Dual OS
  • 64GB & 128GB options
  • USB 3.1 Type-C port (Display out, charging and USB 3 all at the same time)

The rest of the spec remains the same. Thin body, fully laminated screen with a premium build.

Alleged press images, yet oddly nothing on Xiaomi’s official channels, Mi.com or Weibo accounts.

Thanks to Mathias for the tip. Do you think this is real? The Mi Pad 2 is still one of the best small tablets around for the price, and I would love to see a worthy update of this model. Apollo Lake Mi Pad 3 anyone? Better yet, a Xiaomi Surface Pro 4 clone, Core M3-7Y30, 8GB and premium build.

  1. damn hot 🙂 But I’m still waiting for Mipad 3 with Windows.

  2. Hopefully not going to be true… Z8700 is a waste of money und 2GB is completely subpar

  3. Awesome hardware but terrible support from Xiaomi on ROM updates and substandard performance despite the specs. Had to rely on a custom ROM from Livedten on the Mi forums to unlock the Mipad 2’s real potential

    • You mean CM13? Gonna try it for sure, as soon as the audio issue is fixed

      • Haven’t tried the CM13 rom, just the updated MIRU 7 rom. The MIRU 8 doesn’t seem to work with Google Play services and honestly looks a little ugly compared to the MIUI 7 base.

What audio bug do you experience? Everything seems to work fine for me. There was an older version which had a bluetooth bug but that got fixed within a couple of weeks

        • Ahh.. okay. The audio issue is with the CM13 ROM. About the only bug left I believe and the main advantage compared to other ROM’s: its Android M.

I’m currently on the AOSP Rom, have you tried that and is the Miru Rom better/worse/smoother? Thanks!

  4. yes, but better come with 10 inch screen

  5. ” Apollo Lake Mi Pad 3 anyone?” Yes, indeed, that would have made sense today! Event Voyo is already releasing devices with this SoC, at decent prices.
    Dual-OS: no, thanks 😉

    • I’ll be checking out the new Apollo Lake Vbook V3. I hope the Mi Pad 3 is at least 3:2 or 4:3 Apollo Lake N4200 with 4GB of RAM. I’m sure it will have a nice build, retina panel (fully laminated) but just hope they don’t cripple it with no HDMI out like the Mi pad 2.
