The Onda v116w Core M has arrived on my door step, 3 days from China via DHL. Super fast. So here is the unboxing video. And so far my first impressions are overall positive.
The Good:
- Two full sized USB ports, the left one is USB 3.0 and working at full USB 3 speeds (Unlike my Cube i7)
- Port placement is good
- Over all build is okay
- 109GB free on the 128GB BIWIN sata3 ssd dive 450mbs read / 150 write
- Bright screen OGS 1080p screen
- 10000mAH battery, 2 x 5000maH cells.
- Feels just as fast as the Core M powered Cube i7
The Bad:
- A little chunky, has to be thicker for the full sized portsI guess..
- Plastic build is not solid and well put together like the Cube i7’s metal casing.
- The keyboard is all plastic and a bit flimsy feeling. Lots of flex, but still okay to type on.
- No rear camera (Maybe an issue for some?)
- $569 usd was a little pricey (Inflated new release pricing for you)
I’ll have plenty more on the Onda v116w Core M very soon, plus a comparison of it against the Cube i7 (China’s first Core M) I’ll be reviewing one more Core M in a week ore two the 2560 x 1600 res Pipo W8. Busy, busy.. Too many new tablet releases to cover almost!

Any idea if Android is installed on disk or runs in a virtual machine?

Never mind, confused this with v919

Hi Chris,
I like job you have made making useful reviews of portable devices and have suggestion to include Wifi signal tests compering strength with other tablets or other portable devices. Some in China designed tablets have problems with wifi strength and wifi stability. As tablets are useful only if it can connect to internet and stay connected, that point is important. Of course tablets can connect to internet using 3G network, but I think it’s OK only if there is no other way to connect. I don’t see in market any tablets with LAN port, perhaps it’s because it’s to big for them to be included in design, but Core M are enough powerful to use full speed of 500Mbps/1Gbps fiber network, as in future more and more of us will have it. The only option is to connect using USB to LAN network adapter, when tablet is working stationary using other external devices for example 27″ display, mouse, keyboard, printer, external HDD.

More new benchmarks and tests:
Handbrake, hdtune, battery eater, zipping, decompressing, outside luminance
Diifferent video samples decoding.
Not just gaming, man

Hi, I run PCmark7, Geekbench 3 and crystal mark on all tablets. So not just gaming as you say. I’ll add a few of the benchmarks you suggested here to the review.

Looks pretty good so far, it is a bit chunky but hopefully the thicker size helps with temps , it will be interesting to see how the temps compare with the CUBE i7 during day to day stuff and gaming.
It really is a shame the CUBE i7 has USB issues.

The Onda seems to run hotter, maybe because it doesn’t have a metal housing that helps with the heat dissipation.

Hi Chris,
You had overheating issues with the onda v116w Z3736f chip set model, was that ever resolved and have you heard of anyone else with the same problem? I really like the 64gb,dual boot, full usb and seperate power port. The Core-m v116w vs. The cube i7 will be a great comparison along with the surface 3. .
Thanks for the great reviews. . . Tim

Never solved I think, there was a delay in manufacture at one point – maybe Onda fixed it?
