X98 Air 3g Android 5.0 V2 Final Rom Tecknight Debloated, with Root

X98 Air 3g Android 5.0 V2 Final Rom Tecknight Debloated, with Root

Teclast recently released the final Android 5.0 non beta Rom for the Teclast X98 Air 3G and Air II (C5J6 and HG9M), but we couldn’t install it. It just stopped at 12%, well Tecknight from our forums came to the rescue. He also debloated the Rom of Chinese apps and included root access.

I have this installed on my X98 Air 3G C5J6 64GB and can report the following:

  • Runs well, very smooth
  • No bugs so far
  • Screen seems brighter than the old stock rom.
  • Cameras working correctly as expect.

Here is a quick demo of the rom in action:

Download it below:

[wpfilebase tag=list id=58 tpl=data-table pagenav=1 /]

Flash it with Intel MFG Tools. Found in the downloads section. And run flash_keep_userdata_tecknight.xml or flash_wipe_userdata_tecknight. Wipe is recommend if your coming from Android 4.4.4. These options will NOT touch your Windows partition.

Many thanks to Tecknight for his work.

  1. I updated my Teclast X98 Air II (HG7N) with the “X98 Air 3G Air II Official Android 5.0 V2 Debloated With Root (Tecknight)”, and while I know that it was meant for the HG9M version, it installed properly nevertheless. After playing around with the updated tablet, I find that all works except for the camera process which no longer functions. I really like the upgraded and rooted Android, but I would like to fix the cameras – Any thoughts on how to do this?

    • I would like to add that the firmware upgrade also installs wireless features (telephone and MMS) despite the fact that the tablet is WiFi only (both HG7N and HG9M), but this is a minor issue as I was able to quickly disable/ dispose of these features with the root access.

  2. I must be doing something wrong since nothing happens. I assume that at the top of the MFT window it should show the device attached, but it is blank. Any ideas?

  3. I flashed this ROM to my HG9M (Air 2).
But I’ve got a problem with that. The About device menu shows that this is a Air 3G model, but it isn’t and there are caller features(3G) in the screen, but in real my device hasn’t got (Air 2). Is there any config option before the flash, where I can set to the installer the model number or something like that? Or how can I set the flasher which is the correct model version?

  4. Anybody reckon this will be possible to install on Air III?

  5. Hi, I just installed this rom without any trouble, my main question for now is where is settings/user menu ?? I can’t add any user such as for my wife or kid. What is wrong ?

  6. I updated mine with this rom, had to re partition whole tablet,
I created the usb drive for windows 8.1, it boots from the usb, but when selecting partition to install, it says windows cannot be installed on this partition.
    Anyone else facing this issue?

  7. I updated my x98 air c8j7 3G with lolipop 5.0, but the camera is not functional. What should I do?

  8. Quote” Flash it with Intel MFG Tools. Found in the downloads section. And run flash_keep_userdata_tecknight.xml or flash_wipe_userdata_tecknight. Wipe is recommend if your coming from Android 4.4.4. These options will NOT touch your Windows partition.”

In the folder: “X98 Air 3G Android 5.0 (c5j6) V2.00 Final” there is no option to delete user date or save it. Only options are Flash or Flash nonpartition?
I’ve tried flashing with “X98 Air 3G Air II Official Android 5.0 V2 Debloated with Root (Tecknight)” but it fails at 71%. I have downloaded other roms and they dont have the xml files. Anywhere I can get a clear guide thats up to date to get my android fixed?

    Thanks

  9. but the download, where here ?

  10. How’s the battery so far? better or worse? also hows the standby battery?

    • Better so far for me.

      • Will it work on C8J6? Also, is there a full tutorial I can follow? BTW many thanks Chris! I only bought this tablet because of your recommendation 🙂

  11. hi need help please i flash the rom and got to 75% and failed and the log ons say could not open /sys/devices/virtual/backlight. I wiped user data

  12. Tried your setting Dazcoull. The flash started but stopped at 14%. Flash failed. Luckily the device booted. Dont know where the problem lies.

  13. Tried your setting dazcoull but still not detecting my c5j6. I’m running the intel tool on Win 8.1.

  14. Okay, figured it out – I used my one and only remaining old PC, running Windows 7 and it successfully installed the drivers and detected the device – guess because they are unsigned, Windows 10 refuses to install.
Got the image, installed the Intel tool, ran it and changed parameters for SOC to VID:8087 and PID:0A65, Android VID:8087, PID:09EF and the moment I did this, the tablet was recognized and flashed really quickly.
I did NOT have to mess around with BIOS updates.
    Hope this helps someone.

    • Hi Dazcoull, does it have to be rooted before doing this?

    • In Windows 8.1 and 10, you would need to go into advanced start up options and set your computer to allow unsigned drivers to install.

      From Microsoft-

      a. Press the Win + C and click on PC settings.
      b. Switch over to the “Update & recovery” section.
      c. Then click on the Recovery option on the left hand side.
      d. Once selected, you will see an advanced startup section appear on the right hand side. You will need to click on the “Restart now” button.
      e. Once your Computer has rebooted you will need to choose the Troubleshoot option.
      f. Then head into Advanced options.
      g. Then Startup Settings.
      h. Since we are modifying boot time configuration settings, you will need to restart your computer one last time.
      I. Here you will be given a list of startup settings that you can change. The one we are looking for is “Disable driver signature enforcement”. To choose the setting, you will need to press the F7 key.
      Hope this information helps.

      • Thanks JDK for detailed instructions, I tried it but still no luck. Have now flashed it with Mirek190 and am happy with that for now.

  15. I just get as far as connecting the X98 C5J6 64GB to my Windows 10 PC and it says it is an invalid or unrecognized USB device (Yes, I have added those Android drivers) – manually removing the device and redoing does not work either. Does not even recognize it when it is running Android 4.4.4 in USB debug mode. BIOS says core version 5.008, Project version tPAD 1.07, Build date and time 01/16/2015 12:16:21. Compliancy UEFI 2.3; PI 1.2. AMIBIOS version is 2.16.1242. It is already running Windows 10 (in-situ upgrade from 8.1)
The Intel flash tool of course does not detect any tablet at all.
Really at a loss on how to proceed further – I really like the look of that custom 5.0 ROM!

  16. I’m having the same problem as Simon where MFG Flash Tool is not recognizing my C5J6.

The steps I have followed are:
1/ Unpack ’98 Air 3G Air II Official Android 5.0 V2 Debloated With Root (Tecknight)’
    2/ Open MFG Flash tool
3/ Click Open -> Select ‘flash_wipe_userdata_tecknight’ from where I unpacked it

I am guessing that I’m missing something because it won’t recognise my tablet.

Essentially all i want is root so I can get rid of all the bloatware but have tried iRoot, Kingo Root & X98 Toolbox without success.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  17. Check this out. http://techtablets.com/forums/topic/mods-so-you-can-actually-flash-the-android-5-final-release/ hope it helps. Do you have thermal issues too?

  18. Look I know I am probably jissing somehting but I cannot get my C5J6 recognised by the Intel Manu Tool (IMT).

I have followed the install IMT instructions as best I can although when says “connect the tablet now” in some of the steps I am not clear if the tablet is supposed to be in Fastboot mode, Android or Win 10/8.1?

Has anyone else had trouble gettng their tablet recognised by the IMT. BTW it install the latest Mirek ROM i had to use the Android method.

  19. Also didn’t remove my SD card. I didn’t lose anything there ether. I had to run (nextapp sdfix) to get write access back to the external SD card though. But works great. Thank you 🙂

  20. It worked great for me. This is the only rom I have been able to install. I even picked (flash_keep_userdata_tecknight.xml) because I didn’t want to lose anything . I did have to go into a couple apps and delete the cache on them to get them to work. Also updates google services from the playstore but now all us good. The only problem I still have is (over heating) expecialy when I play candy crush. The screen dims and starts throttling. Any fix for this??
Every other rom I tried installing would stop at 12%. I still have the stock BIOS installed also on my c5j6 64gb tablet.

  21. Hi,
Quick question: Is it really necessary to have the latest bios (2.02) installed for this to work well? I’d like to do as little tinkering as possible, especially if it means risking a brick.
    Thanks for all the work!

  22. I have some problems flashing the rom. IMT says:
    08/10/15 16:43:03.257 WARNING: Port 0/0/1 #0: Failed to execute “fastboot -s Baytrail09083F7D -S 100M flash system “C:\Users\Boris Sulzberger\Desktop\Teclast Dual Boot\Lollipop\X98 Air 3G Air II Official Android 5.0 V2 Debloated with Root (Tecknight)\system.img”
    …and then stops at 75%.

I had no problems flashing Mirek190’s LL rom and just flashed it again over the failed one.

    Any idea? Thanks

  23. Can I use this to remove the Windows partition completely and use the 64gb for Android?

  24. Will this work on a HG8N?

    • HG9M yes, Mirek190 has just released a new Android 5 custom Rom. That might be better, I’m testing it out now.

      • Mirek’s one is also not working fine in HG8N.

      • My tablet is stamped on the back as – Teclast X98 Air II(HG8N)
It dual boots to Android and Windows. Is there a difference between HG8N and HG8M in terms of
ROM compatibility? Also, I don’t have an updated BIOS. Would that be the 1st thing I’ll need to do
        before installing a new ROM?

        Thanks

      • A comparison Mirek vs Tecknight ROM would be really cool

    • No…
      Camera is not working.
      Any solution?

  25. Great rreview Chris – thanks

So I have literally just upgraded to Mirek latest 4.4.4 ROM (and Win 10) last week and I am happy with it. Given I have not yet sorted my tablet (i.e. installed all apps and ordered the screen), is it worth upgrading to this ROM or waiting for Mirek’s Android 5 ROM. Or would you stick with the 4.4.4 rom for a little longer. Your personal opinion is fine.

More importantly what does Mirek do that akes his ROM so highly recommended? I understadn he removes the chinese bloat but what else does he do? Thanks.
