Chuwi Hi9 Plus Android 8 Tablet With Optional Keyboard & Stylus

Chuwi hipad

Maybe the last MediaTek Helio X27 tablet I’ll review the Chuwi Hi9 Plus is on the way. Unlike the HiPad I’ve reviewed this one has 4GB of RAM not the slower 3GB, a higher resolution 2560 x 1600 OGS IPS screen with stylus support and dual-SIM 4G support with band 20. There is also a keyboard which looks a little like the Apple smart cover keyboard ones. Hopefully, this one will perform much better.

The optional stylus is the H3 pen with 1024 levels of pressure sensitivity. The tablet runs Android 8.0 and has 64GB of eMMC 4.5 spec storage. As well as LTE you’ll find dual-band Wireless, BT and MicroSD support.

The Chuwi Hi9 Plus has a 7000mAh battery that is charged via MicroUSB (Not Type-C) And no Micro HDMI output.  It’s currently on sale for $189 at Gearbest.com Check back for a review of this one in about 1-2 weeks. It’s just left China, with the keyboard and stylus. This one has been requested a fair amount.

Chinese tablet news, hands on videos and reviews of the latest Chinese tablets. I don't review or cover just anything, only tablets I think are good enough and worth the attention.

  1. Hi,

I have had one of these for a few days now and a couple of observations: Type-C, NOT Micro USB, Type-C doesn’t seem to output video and … it was painfully sluggish until I disabled VoLTE … then it’s fine. It seemed as VoLTE was crippling it somehow?

  2. I have been using one for almost a week now and i can confidently say not to get your hopes up for this tablet, at least not until chuwi updates it.

UI is sluggish and slow to respond like with previous chuwi’s android tablets.

stylus support appears to be not fully implemented as well, for now it is on or off only, there is no hovering/palm rejection or pressure sensitivity.

once chuwi patches it this will be a excellent tablet for productivity work but for now i would say wait for the full review by chris.

  3. The question I always have with these Android tablets, especially now that the CPU’s are getting more and more powerful, is can Linux be installed on them? There is a whole world of other uses, for example in the IoT world if a light-weight distro like Debian Linux could be installed on them. I really don’t know much about “jailbreaking” or otherwise unlocking these things. Is it possible? Is there access to the BIOS settings to do something like boot Linux from a Live-USB drive?

    • hmmm, well here is potentially how to root it. Still would need directions on installing some ARM-Linux distro such as Raspbian…

    • Oh, sorry. I forgot as the vast majority of the time the touchscreen does not work under linux (no driver) so it makes no sense to go down this road. That’s too bad.

  4. Hi9 Plus, indeed 😛
BTW, still waiting for the Indiegogo Alldocube X: did you crowdfund this one too?

    • Yes, but it hasn’t shipped yet but. I got an update it’s all ready to be assembled but the engineers are addressing weak 5G Wireless issues. I hope I get it soon!

  5. Thanks Chris. Very much looking forward to your review of this one. By the way, your heading correctly mentions it as the Hi9 Plus, but the body of your text says Hi9 Air, which you’ve already reviewed and therefore might confuse some of your fans and possible buyers. See, I do pay attention. LOL Best wishes from London.

    • Oh, I had Hi9 Air stuck in my head for some reason LOL. Thank you, I have corrected it!
